G8r80 and GT2003: onward!

Yesterday and today were tough work days. I was too tired yesterday but managed a 30min stationary bike 5k brick workout tonight.

I guess it's catching, hehehe. I brought my workout clothes to work yesterday but forgot my shoes. So, 1 workout gone. No biggie. I picked up my shoes and socks this morning so I can workout today.

Baseboards, new electrical sockets/light switches and covers are all finished. I'll spend a little time tonight putting everything up. The only task I have left is caulking between the edge of the baseboards and the tile to give it that "finished" look. It won't take long but I've been putting it off. But, that will have to wait until after the gym tonight.

Weight 234, down 7 pounds overall. Still eating well and taking the stairs etc. Life seems to be more consistent now. Take care, Greg

2+50 = what? 2 days early and 50% more than my planned goal, that's what.

I jumped on the stairmaster today and went 15 minutes prior to working out. I finished things up with 3 sets bench press, 3 sets incline db press, 2 sets seated, above the head, tricep extensions with a dumbbell and 3 sets of tricep pushdowns.

Diet still superb. It's easy to eat well when you are around others that do so. Eventually I will set the bar for eating performance. Right now, I'll bask in the "togetherness" of eating healthy. I want to be the thermostat, not the thermometer.

The stairs are still a killer. Not so much a flight or two but when I get to about the 4th flight my fatarse starts sucking some air. However, I have noticed my heart rate is recovering faster each day.

That's it for now. Football practice tomorrow so no workout. Then I'll hit it hard again Friday.

G8R, how's your training brother?

Yesterday was another tough work day. Today, I swam before work (weird being at the YMCA pool at 6am) and then hit the gym afterwards.

Pool: 900 yards

Gym:
DB bench press: 40#x10x3
Cable flies: 10x3
Supinated Lat pull downs: 180x6x5
Tricep cable pulldowns: 10x3
Stationary bike: 10 miles

Next two days will be rest days until my triathlon on Sunday.

I worked today but didn't work out. I replaced the tires with some 210g 150psi racers, added 2 tubes and a spare tire and made some adjustments. I will gather up my stuff tomorrow afternoon and drive up early Sunday morning to the tri.

Best of luck my friend. No doubt you will shine in comparison to the others around you. Let us know how everything turns out. I will PM you my phone number if you need to vent/talk etc. Take care and best of luck, Greg

To prepare for my next triathlon on September 6 in Boulder, CO, a long sprint (750m swim, 26mi bike, and 4 mile run) and to start preparing for an Olympic length on October 18, I am going to ramp up the weekly mileage on the run to 18 (6 miles, 3 x /week), the bike to 50 - 100 miles (some of this will have to come from the stationary bike), and keep the swim at 3 miles.

Today: 6.2mile run. 56:36.

Back and bi's at the gym today. Shoulder hurts for some reason so no pressing movements.

Followed weights with 30 minutes on the treadmill. Was planning on simply walking but ended up slipping in some 2-3 minute runs. It felt really good. No shin pain!! Something tomorrow weight wise plus cardio, depending on the shoulder.

40 hard minutes on the stationary bike ("Extreme Route" mode).

1.5 miles walking and running with my spouse. She is interested in running a 5K or the run leg of a sprint tri. I told her I'll do the swim if she'll do the run and we'll find a biker, or we'll find a swimmer and I'll bike.

Another 5K afterwards solo in 30:00.

14 training days (16 days total) left before my next sprint tri, . Gotta make every day count.

OK, this is the man that wouldn't limit himself to 1 leg of a triathalon for a friend but will for his wife. This man truly knows what side his bread it buttered on. Way to go G8r.

I didn't work out Wednesday. My shoulder was killing me. It is feeling much better today so I'm going to try chest and tri's tomorrow with some kind of aerobics following. I don't know if it will be treadmill, stairmaster or bike, but something.

I'm getting old! 20 years ago I never thought I'd get any of the knee pain, joint pain, shoulder pain that the "old people" got. Now, I've got some of it, lol. It's persistance from this point onward. The mind has got to be stronger than the body. It's a lesson I'm learning. I've just got to consistently put it into practice and adjust my workouts around it. Signed, IN THE PROCESS OF "LESSON LEARNED"

Yep, Greg, I have priorities straight! But you're not old - I'm old!

Today: 1500m swimming. Installed 4 posts for a fence at a rental house which was hard work. Then, had a lot of business bs to take care of. Too tired to run or cycle afterwards. But, just as well - That was 4 straight hard leg days with cycling and/or running.

Rained all day, so stayed inside and did business paperwork - nasty job!

Tried to run this evening on treadmill but felt completely energy-less. Struggled to get in 3 miles. Don't know why. Oh well.

Swam 1 miles in 42 minutes. Didn't stop except to grab 2 breaths at each 25 yards. Great progress from before. Then 20 minutes on exercise bike on hardest route. Then, the hardest workout of the day, by far. With assistance from my friend Shawn, to whom I loaned my scuba gear since I won't be needing it for a while, I installed 4 pilings and removed 6 pilings, all by jetting. Here is what is involved

This was very messy, nasty, grueling 6 hour job, but it saved me $1500. I tipped Shawn with a $100 gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse (a pseudo-Aussie restaurant, Tony).

Then, the wife and went out for dinner and clubbing. Never too old for that.

Today, still in Annapolis: 1:30 on stationary bike. 4 miles on treadmill. These are the times and distances of my next sprint tri in Boulder.

I thought I better check in real quick. I'm still painting kitchen cabinets. I've been going straight home from work and painting until about 10:30 or 11 pm each night. I should be done by Saturday so next week I can be back in the gym.

Nutrition wise I'm still eating pretty well. I'm maintaining my weight at 233, down about 8 pounds from my start weight. So, even without training, I'm maintaining my weight.

I'm still taking the stairs at work and continually try to go faster and faster each time I climb them. This has been a pretty easy way to get the heart rate up quite a few times per day, usually 3-5 flights per ocassion.

That's it for now. I'll report on my training next week. Take care and have a safe weekend!

I read this journal because it is filled with win. I just don't have much to say other than, rock on. :D

That and uh, Greg, stop being a wuss or I will come over there and kick your ass in. Seriously, I have a whole lot of flyer miles and I'm not afraid of you. ;)
