What days? I will be in Boulder working September 2 - 5 and doing the Boulder sprint triathlon on September 6 (Saturday). Then, I go directly to San Francisco and return on September 12. If it is the weekend of September 12 and 13, I'd have to seriously consider that. Will it be one big loop with a hotel stayover or two separate day loops back to Tampa? And who is Mr. 11 hour Ironman?

And I am always up for an assault on Sugarloaf!

Mr. 11 hour is a good dude, he is very focused right now, so he left me on that last ride, when i went back to meet you guys....

We do not have the back to back century set up yet, but maybe we could do something cool like that single loop idea. Maybe out in San Antonio or something. If you want to do it too, I will do it when you can, and he can give in. his event will b over and he is doing it to help me be stronger in my bike. HE CAN RIDE! maybe even as good as you.

anyhow,
assoult on sugarloaf is an actual event. Not sure of the date, but it fits in with my event,,, I think it is in September... let's pull it all together.
call this weekend if you can.

Hey Todd, here is the info on the Assault on Sugarloaf Mountain:

I am free that weekend, so that would be great with me. I would be up for the 2-lap 112 mile course, because I luv pain too:luxlove:! We can meet at the truck stop and I'll drive from there.

Thanks Drex! You, FF, and Sparrow set a high bar for me to aspire.

Today was a weight and run day.

Lat pulldowns: 120#x10x3

Chinups: 4, 3. These were the first I had done since my surgery and I paid the price. My chest hurt afterwards and I don't know if it's the sternum or the musculature, so to play it safe, I won't do these again until October 4, the 6th month anniversary of my surgery.

Bench press: 135#x10. Left rotator cuff started hurting like a mutha so I stopped. I think my shoulder is sore from the swimming, but ironically my shoulder doesn't hurt when I swim. I tried some pushups and the shoulder hurt with those also.

Bicep dumbbell curls: 25# x 10 x 3

Cable flies: 45#x10x3. Didn't hurt chest, so I will do these to work on my pecs.

Shrugs: 50# x 10 x 3

5k run 27:57. 141 avg., 150 max. I want to be down to 27 flat in the next month or so.

I was gonna ride the stationary bike at the gym and was gonna do 10K, but I was flat worn out. This was a hard week.

GT, congrats on the new job. I'm glad it worked out for you. Now for something really important, what are your goals and how are you gonna accomplish them?

I always have a hard time with goals.

Weight:

I ultimately want to get down to 190 lbs (depending on what I look like at that weight and adjust accordingly). No time tables. I just want to do it correctly and in a healthy manner. When I get there, I get there.

Eat correctly:

Not hard, I've just got to get my head around it. I've felt a total mindset change with the new job. Being around many "health oriented" people is very catching to me. So much different than being around the "sales crowd" who always want to drink, stay out late and do anything except be healthy. I had already let myself get in poor shape prior to my last job so it was so much easier to fall into their crap than set the example and live a healthy lifestyle. When I return to my state of greatness, hehehe, I will again set the example and pull people into this lifestyle myself.

I truthfully need the nurturing/encouragement that the gym provides at this point in my life. I need the social aspect of it as well, to be around others that are fitness minded. That was my identity for so many years and when I let it get away from me I didn't know how to react/deal with things except to eat and drink. Even after a few days I feel like I'm getting my identity back and it feels great! Maybe it sounds shallow but fitness has always been such a big deal to me and such a great enjoyment that I was depressed when i couldn't find a way for it to work out for me for so many years.

Workout Goals:

3x/wk with cardio right after work, 1 hour/day total. I am splitting it up as chest/tri's on Tuesdays, back/bi's on Wednesdays and Legs/calves/shoulders on Fridays. My son has Football practice on Mondays and Thursdays and I'd like to plan some sort of activity, probably bike riding, on those days for a little more cardio.

Todays workout:

20 minutes on the bike, 5 on the stairmaster (planned 10 but couldn't quite get there.....LOOK, there's a goal. I will make 10 minutes on the stairmaster by August 15th, final weigh in for AIM/GT contest). then another 5 on the bike. I followed that up with 3 sets seated rows, 3 sets lat pulldowns, 3 sets straight bar curls and 2 sets concentration curls.

Will follow up on Friday after my workout. Cya, Greg

GT, I'm glad you are surrounded in real life and virtual life by fitness-minded folks.

This was a tough week for me. When I do a local training class it is harder than when I am out of town as I come home and have familial responsibilities.

Yesterday: all work

Today: 1800 yards in pool, the first 600 with blue Zoomers and the last 1200 with a pull buoy. The Zoomers wear me out! Also, I have been doing some stretching procedures to improve my kick.

Then, 14 miles on the mountain bike.

Then 5K run.

Take u'r stuff with you, then...Straight to the gym you go. Too many distractions/obligations at home. Believe me, I know.

I ended up taking off yesterday. Football was cancelled due to the rain. So, I focused on finishing up the trim work around the bases of the doors.

After work today I'm going to ride the bike for 23 minutes and the stairmaster for 7 or longer (short term goal 10 minutes) then work legs, calves, shoulders. I take the stairs pretty much everywhere I go, sometimes a total of 6 floors. My legs are SCREAMING by about floors 3-4 but I keep going. Just another opportunity at fitness. I'll be back in this ballgame before long.

Diet is going well. This new environment has done me wonders. Now all I gotta do is keep it up. But, eating with other dietitians every day keeps the pressure on, hehehe. I'll check back to see what's going on throughout the weekend. Take care, Greg

You're right about the stairs - I need to use them more often. Too often I cheat and take the elevator.

Keep it up!

Implement a no elevator rule. No elevator, period. For any reason! I did about a month back, and I dunno, it seems like it's helping.

Could be a bit of a problem when I move in about a month, though.

Good to see you on your game, Greg. Stick with g8r and you'll be aight. Very excited for you on the new job and situation! Sounds like a keeper to me. :)

Focus, when I travel I have two suitcases, a carry-on, and a computer bag, so the no-elevator rule won't fly with me. I'll burn cals somewhere else.;)

Today at the gym:

Supine lat pulldowns: 120x10, 130x10, 140x10, 180x6x3
DB bench press: 25(x2)x10, 35(x2)x10, 40(x2)x10, 50(x2)x10
Cable flies: 10x3
Shrugs: 10x3
Weighted ab crunches: 50x2
Tricep cable pulldowns: 10x3

Stationary bike: 24:45 avg. hr: 125, max hr: 135 - lackluster, but I was beat

How was your day, Greg?

Great actually. Legs were shot from stairs, stairmaster, bike etc. So, I opted for 23 minutes on the bike with a goal of 7 minutes on the stairmaster. I felt good after 7 so I went ahead and went 8. Short term goal is 10 by the 15th of the month. No weights for legs. I opted for 3 supersets of shoulders, front raises, side raises and rear laterals (?name).

As I was walking to my car I thought I should have done some traps. So, I'll implement that next time.

Have a good weekend. Take care, Greg

Good job. I have the traps of a 9yo girl and need to do shrugs more often.

Pool at the YMCA was packed - I wonder if the Olympics swimming being on tv had anything to do with that? So,

I hit the gym:

- db bench press: 35(x2)x10, 50(x2)x10, 50(x2)x10, 50(x2)x6 (to fatigue - dropped the left db)
- supinated lat pulldowns: 150x10, 180x6x4
- 19.5 miles on stationary bike,. Kept bike in higher gear than I am comfortable with to develop power, my weakness on the bike.

Practiced 200 yards in home pool with sleeveless wetsuit for next Sunday's tri. I will practice some more with the pullover as well to see which will work best for me. Water will be 72F.

Did you finish the baseboards Greg?

Baseboards are almost done!!! I've got probably 11 feet left to go. However, I'm using construction adhesive/liquid nails to attach them to the walls. That way I can avoid the nail holes but, it is a little slower. So, a couple of more boards tonight and I should be done.

The paint is done on the walls and trim. We've got to paint the cabinets but that shouldn't be too hard. We can do a little each night and have it done by the weekend.

No workout planned for tomorrow night. But, I may breakdown and do something. This housework is making me stir crazy.

I'll post pics after everything is done. Cya, Greg
