THEN.....I ran 5K!!! I had never done this before tonight. I slowed my pace a bit and felt great so I ran the whole thing. See my thread in the running and cycling section. No need to repeat it all here.

Nutrition: Still going well. Sitting right at 213.5 still but I've been real lax on the weekends, actually just Friday nights and maybe a little on Saturdays. I figure I'll lose another pound or two this week just by paying attention to what and how much i'm eating. It's funny how that works.

All continues to go well. Hope everyone is doing fine. G8R, how are you doing on your weight loss?

I'm staying at my folks this week in Tulsa. My Mom has diabetes and takes very good care of herself. She usually walks 3 miles per day in about 45 minutes. After yesterday I wanted to run again so she started her 1st loop of walking and I took off running. I ran 1.7 miles while she walked the 1st half of her 3 miles. We met up in the middle and I walked 1.5 miles with her. Total distance for the day 3.2 miles. I'm feeling good and eating well. My goals are inching closer day by day. Talk to you all later, Greg

Greg: Not making any progress on weight loss, but am getting stronger.

Today after work:

1200 yards swimming, the last 400 yards with no pullbuoy or zoomers.
deadlift: 185# 6, 6, 10, 10 - these sucked the life out of me
chinups: 3x7
high pulley cable crossovers: 10x3
bicep dumbbell curls: 10x1
pushups: 25x4

Greg-major congrats on the 5k distance! Thats something to be proud of!
G8r-400 no assistance eh? Awesome! How is that swimming feeling these days?

Sparrow, I don't know if it's psychological or not, but when I swim with no assistance, it seems like I have to pull and kick much harder as my legs are definitely sinking. On my next outing, I am not going to use any assistance for a full 1000 yards and see what that is like.

Back and bi's

Dumbbell rows - 50 lb dumbbells (the heaviest they've got), 3 sets, 8 reps each
Wide grip lat pulldowns, 2 sets 8 reps each
dumbbell curls, 30's, 2 sets 8 reps each starting with palm facing up
dumbbell curls, rotating arm from thumb facing forward to palm up during the curls, 2 sets 8-10 reps each, 20 lb dumbbells

Cardio...I'm simply in love with cardio right now:

Walk 3 minutes at 3.5 mph
Jog...ANOTHER 5K BABY(on the treadmill, 5.5mph)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Walk 7.5 minutes at 4mph

My wife finally went and filed divorce papers today. I'll pick them up Monday and take them to my attorney for approval. I've exhausted all of my efforts doing everything I can to work this out so I feel the best about it that I possibly can. Unfortunately, I've gotten no help from the other side. So, it's time to make the best of a bad situation, learn from it and move on. Wish me luck. And thanks for letting me vent!!!

Well, the way I'd look at it is you are now starting with a clean slate so it's a new chapter in the Life of Greg ;)

I will say best of luck to you!!! But I don't think you'll need it ... I think you'll be just fine :)

I'll take all the best wishes I can get right now, hehehe. Seriously though, that's how I'm looking at it. Live and learn, move on and be a better person for it. I've got a clean slate, a very supportive family, great friends and that's a great start for anyone.

Bad luck last night. On my way home from work, after working out, I had a flat tire. I had to pull into a well lighted parking lot and change my tire. Don't think I didn't call and harass my wife and tell her that she didn't need to start this crap already she had just filed the divorce papers that day and she didn't need to start sabotaging me already. She laughed and we joked about it. At least we can talk and be civil.

Plans for tonight: There is a nice running trail in Tulsa, LaFortune Park. It is 3.2 miles long and I've wanted to run it or at least thought about running it for years. Well, tonight is the night. I'll leave straight from work and get there about 5:15 pm. Maybe a bit sooner. That should still allow me time to run it before it gets dark. I'll take tomorrow off totally and plan a nice run on Saturday. Unfortunately I won't have my running watch with me tonight so I won't be able to give an exact time. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Take care all. Greg

Got up for a :50 spinning class this morning at 5:15am. I didn't like this spinning instructor. I know what I can and cannot do and don't need to be singled out for not doing what the instructor expects; she doesn't know my background or my medical history. Afterwards, she said let's do 50 pushups, so I said to myself, "You're on b---h". She did 50 pathetic ones and I did only 25, but they were deep and my nose touched my towel.

Late this evening, added 3 miles in 28:00 and 75 more pushups. I was tired before and really tired afterwards. Back is still suffering from DOMS from the deadlifts 2 days ago.

Decent run tonight but I wasn't 100% satisfied. I was on my way to Tulsa and was really, really hungry. I didn't have any food with me but had 1 packet of GU in my center console. I consumed it and hoped it would do me good. However, about 2/3 of the way into my run I developed a minor cramp right behind the very lower part of the right side of my ribcage. So, I walked 100-125 yards. The cramp subsided and I ran the remainder of the run. I also ran that amount extra at the end cuz I didn't want to cheat myself. Basically I failed to plan for the nutrition end and I suffered because of it. I should have planned a mid afternoon snack but failed to do so. Lesson learned. I'll do it better next time. Day off tomorrow. I'll run another 5K or so on Saturday. Hope everyone is well. Talk to you later, Greg

You got that right G8R. I'm now looking at running watches etc. to start challenging myself more. I think as I continue to lose weight that my times should improve a bit. I'd really like to run a sub 30 minute 5k possibly before or right at the new year. That would equate to a 9:22 mile. There is a "run into the new year" 5k in Tulsa on December 31st that starts at 11:45pm and you....run into the new year. I should be weighing in right around 195-200 at that point so maybe a sub 30 minute run would be a possibility.

No training today. I've pushed my running pretty hard this week for a new guy. After my 1st 5k Monday I ran 1.7 Tuesday, 5k Wednesday and 5k again last night. My legs and calfs are actually loosening up a bit finally. But, I'm taking tonight off totally. My body says it will appreciate it but my mind says "Run Forrest, Run!".

I'm going home after work and spending time with my son. I'll be staying at the house this week and doing a few home improvements to get it ready to sell. G8R, you've got to be good at this stuff with your rental properties and stuff. Any interest in a home improvement road trip? (kidding brother, kidding)

Thats it for now. I'll report after my run on Saturday!

Greg, there is no reason why you can't break 30:00 in a 5K by the end of the year. You're doing great. And, yes, I do know about getting houses ready as I do that 3 - 4 times / year with 5 rentals.

Today: 1.2 mile swim in 50:00. The first 2000 yards with a pullbuoy, the last 200 with no aids.
3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 1, 1 chinups

No run yesterday. It was in the low 30's and the wind was blowing probably 20 mph. So, call it what you will, I wussed out!

I'm at home with the kids this week so I'll be training at home and will be riding my stationary bike. I'm already planning 2 runs during the week of about 2 miles each followed by a 3.2 miler on Saturday. I'll stagger the bike with the runs. This should allow my legs a little more recovery from the runs. This is the 1st day my legs haven't been sore and I last ran on Thursday. I got a little carried away last week so I'll slow down a bit and listen to my body more.

I might get to go running shoe shopping this next weekend so I'm pretty pumped! New shoes for my 1st official 5k, ain't it cute!!!

I'm planning on it. There is also a run the Saturday after Thanksgiving called the Thanks for giving run. It will likely by my 1st actual event. It is in Tulsa also so I can stay at the folks house and get up in the morning and run it. After that is the 5k in Muskogee on December 20th then finally the run into the New Year run. So, I've got a lot on my plate but am excited about it. I really need to find someone around here to run with. I bet I'll feel strange being by myself in a huge crowd of strangers. We'll see.

The weather was much better today. I snuck out after work and ran right at 2.5 miles in 27 minutes. I felt really good and could have gone the extra 7 tenths easy. I've got to plan out a 5k run around here so I'll have a course to run on my 5k days.

I'm already planning on a "Remember the Ten" run in April. It's got a 10k option and I want to run it. I went to Oklahoma State University and a few years ago some on their basketball players (and others) were killed in a plane crash. This run commenmorates that. My roommate from college lives in Oklahoma City so I'm sure he'll run that one with me. So, on my long runs should I start to increased my distance a little each week?

I'm going to run one day, take one off etc. Hopefully i can prevent the soreness that way. Does that sound like a reasonable plan?
