G8r80 and GT2003: onward!

Yep! The highest I got was 241 or 241.5 (see thread GT vs. Aim in the photo's section). I've had my ups and downs but I'm steadily getting it down closer to where it needs to be. 215 will be the 1/2 way point so I thought it would be a good time for pictures. I think I can be there by the end of the weekend but we'll see. It won't be long though. I just had to keep perservering. And, this divorce thing really has an affect on the appetite. I've almost got to be careful and make sure I eat enough. But, I am, and, when I do eat, it's been healthy foods with the exception of last weekend.

Pretty basic workout today. It was a day for chest and tri's but I didn't go very heavy and only did about 5 sets per bodypart. I was more focused on the cardio i had planned afterwards.

Treadmill, 48 minutes total, walk 2, jog 6, walk 2, jog 6, walk 3, jog 5, walk 3, jog 5, walk 3, jog 2 (7mph), walk 9 at a 7 degree incline. All jogging was done at 6 mph except where noted, walking between 3.2 and 4 mph.

I finished up with 15 minutes on the recumbent bike for a cardio total for the day of 1 hour 3 minutes, a personal best.

I feel great! I'm planning on heavy back and bi's tomorrow and then into another hour session of cardio. Treadmill will again be my main focus since I still want to do a 5k, maybe even before the end of the year. You never know, I may end up with an hour and a half session of cardio before the week is over. We'll see how my body holds out. Take care all. Cya, Greg

Back and Bi's

3 sets lat pulldowns, 3 sets dumbbell rows, 3 sets straight bar curls, 3 sets dumbbell curls (twisting barbell from a hammer curl position at start to a straight bar position at the top and squeezing).

Cardio

15 minutes stationary bike (level 10-15), 36:30 on the treadmill alternating walking and jogging, much more walking today. My legs are shot either from yesterday or from riding the bike before I did the treadmill today. Finished up with 20 minutes on the bike for a grand total of 71 minutes and 30 seconds of cardio following my workout. I really feel good and this has helped my sleep pattern tremendously. Depending on how I feel, I might shoot for the elusive hour and a half of cardio tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll start with weights or not. If so, something light, maybe shoulders and traps. We'll see!

I think I'm down to 215 lbs. I'm going to go ahead and wait until Friday morning to take pics just to get a few more days of training and dieting under my belt. I can finally see a fairly significant difference from the starter pics so I'm pretty pumped. Off to shower and then eat something. Talk to you all later, Greg

P.S. - What have you been up to Richard? I know you haven't been sedentary for this long!!!

10 x 3 dips
2 x 10 chinups
10 x 3 30# dumbbell bicep curls
1500 yards pool swim 35:00
30 minutes on exercise bike
2 miles at 9:30 pace

Yeah, I knew you were doing something. Nice training!

215.7 this morning with clothes on (no shoes though) and that was after I drank a 44 oz diet coke on the way in to work.

I've got to eat more! With all the recent stress I don't have much of an appetite. When I am hungry, I've been eating healthy. Well, the weight is dropping off. Although it's very rewarding, I know I'm sacrificing muscle tissue if I'm losing it this fast. I did fitday yesterday and only came out to around 1200 calories for the day with about 1/3 from fat, protein and carbs. I actually had another 100 calories or so about 4 pm but that is still far too little. I've got to add in another 500-800 calories/day to stop this madness. I'm throwing in the ocassional "free meal" and this seems to be fooling my metabolism for the time being anyway. I've got a free night scheduled Friday when my son and I are going to dinner and to the haunted house.

Now, don't get worried, I'm not having any weird thoughts about food, I'm not scared of it, I simply don't have much of an appetite. This will get better with time! At that point, I should be at or near my goal weight and then simply be able to maintain.

That's all for now. I'm off to the cafeteria/lunch room to grab me a piece of fruit to add to my snickers marathon energy bar i had for bkft. Talk to you all later. GOAL: 90 minutes of cardio following light shoulder/traps workout!!!!

90 minutes of cardio - do it! Make sure you have your ipod so you don't go crazy.

I'll probably split it up between the treadmill and the bike again. After yesterday, I want to start out on the treadmill and see how my legs feel. Once I've had enough of that I'll get on the bike for the remainder of the time.

There is actually a TV to watch so I can watch sportscenter, fox news, seinfeld etc. The time should go by fairly quickly. I'll post later on!

90 minutes is a long time. A few months ago I was happy to do 15-20 minutes and it absolutely wore me out. THINGS ARE LOOKING UP!!!

I had to clean, mow, and paint a rental house today (evicted the tenants) and didn't get a chance to work out. Still, did 25 x 4 pushups. 4" off the ground.

Went to kids' high school football game yesterday, where 2 of my kids play in the marching band. Bloomingdale HS beat their old rival, Brandon HS, to win their 6th game (out of 10) thus ensuring them their first winning season ever (they began football in 1987).

Rode 43 miles with the Saturday crowd. I realize my concentration on my weaknesses, swimming and running, have taken time away from my cycling, and these guys were fast today - going no less than 21 at any time and hitting speeds of 27 on the flats, but I did not feel fast today. I was fine for the first 20 miles, covering them in less than 1 hour, which is fast for me, but it took its toll on me. On the return 23 miles, I struggled to maintain 17 mph and my legs had muscle fatigue.

I need to ride more.

Ran trails at Slate Run Wetland Refuge, one of my field sites here in Columbus, OH, a little under 6 miles for a little under 1 hour.

4 x 25 pushups

Not much over the weekend except a lot of football. I actually tried to take pictures just now, after 1 pic the batteries went dead. I'll pick up some batteries today and post that 1 pic this afternoon and more tomorrow morning. I'm showing a little more definition and my love handles are decreasing in size. Off for now. Talk to you later, Greg

Good workout last night. I'm at home this week so I'm working out on my multi-station home gym and riding my exercise bike. I did probably 6-8 sets each for chest and triceps, 6-10 reps per set. I got some really good blood flow in the muscles and it felt good. I followed this with 45 minutes on the stationary bike

90 minutes of cardio didn't happen last week. When I get pumped up about it, I usually over do it a day or two before then i'm too dang sore to do an hour and a half. I honestly think I've got the ability to do it provided I choose the right exercises. I might start off with 90 on the bike then start incorporating other exercise into it; stairmaster, bike etc.

I got batteries for my camera so I'm taking pictures here in a few minutes. I'll make a new thread entitled "GT's updated pics, half way to the finish". Be looking for it around 6:30 am CST today in the photo gallery section.

Today:

3 x 8 chinups. Increased the number of reps and decreased the sets and the rest time.
10 x 3 dips
45 minutes on exercise bike

Nothing Tuesday. My son wanted to make cookies so we went and got the stuff and made them last night. I was very tired and felt like I needed the night off anyway. I'm back at it tonight with back, bi's and 45-60 minutes on the bike.

Nutritionally I've done better. I ate right at 1800 calories yesterday. Still a little low but it beats the heck out of the 11-1200 I accidently ate for a few days last week.

I weighed 213.5 yesterday afternoon.

I'll report after the workout tonight. Take care, Greg

1 mile in pool: about 40 minutes. Did a spin class from one of my clients in class who is a RPM spin instructor. Afterwards, 4 x 25 pushups.

Felt tired again tonight but wasn't going to let it get the best of me.

Back and Bi's

3 heavy sets of wide grip pulldowns, 3 heavy sets of seated pulley rows, 3 sets of strict, fairly heavy curls with a straight grip, 2 light sets (20 lb dumbbells) of "rotating" barbell curls.

Cardio

Finished everything off with 45 minutes on the bike. 45 minutes seems to be a great amount of time for me. I get a great workout and can adjust the intensity as needed to push myself.

Tomorrow will be my last workout for the week so i may do straight cardio for an hour. Or, maybe I'll go outside and run for 1/2 hour or so then come inside and finish up on the bike. We'll see how things go but I will eventually hit 90 minutes of cardio for a workout. It's a goal and I will meet it!

Got in late last night (actually early this morning) from Columbus. Got up at 6am to help Courtney prepare for her geometry test. (I am old, but I can still handle the "new math"). Then went to gym.

3 x 7 parallel bar pullups - harder than chinups, but easier than pullups
10 x 3 bodyweight dips
25 x 3 deep curls
15 x 3 back curls? (exercise for lower back)
About 1500 yards swim in 32 minutes (I lose track of the laps). I planned to go 3000 yards, but I had coffee beforehand which made me queasy and dizzy. I can usually drink coffee at any time of day in any amount without issue.

1 mile on treadmill.

Greg: what do you end up doing yesterday?

Nothing fitness related. My wife and I are switching weeks at the house with the kids so I tied up loose ends; dinner, laundry, dishes, cleaning etc. I cooked some AWESOME deer jerky for low fat snacks. I really wanted to at least ride the bike for 45 minutes or so but by the time I got everything done it was 10:30 and I was beat.

Tonight I'm changing the oil in my truck and spending the evening with some of my good friends. We are going to Robbers Cave state park tomorrow for some hiking/play time. My son and their kids are going too so it should be a good time for all.

Nutrition wise things are getting better. I'm averaging close to 1800 calories/day which beats the heck out of 1200, hehehe. My nerves aren't quite as shot so nutrition isn't as much of a concern now. I'm still eating clean and am enjoying it. I'm wearing smaller clothes, taking up notches in my belts and really need to buy at least one new pair of dress slacks. So, I'm making the best of a bad situation.

I'll figure a way to include treadmill or maybe an evening run sometime this weekend. I'm going to my folks for the next week so I will have a nice, relaxing environment and can fit in nice long workouts after work. I'll be working out on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week. I'll weigh in the middle of the week too and give an update.

Hope everyones weekend goes well.

Today: 1.2 miles swim (1/2 Ironman distance) in 53:00
