G8r80 and GT2003: onward!

So, on my long runs should I start to increased my distance a little each week?

I'm going to run one day, take one off etc. Hopefully i can prevent the soreness that way. Does that sound like a reasonable plan?

Yeah, bump up your mileage a little each week. I go every other day as well. In time, you will be able to go every day.

Do you think I will be OK running Sunday, weights and recumbent bike Monday, run Tuesday, weights and bike Wednesday etc? I'll throw a day off in there somewhere. I wasn't sure if I covered that correctly in my previous posts. I guess what I'm asking is do you think with the above schedule my legs will have the time needed to recover? I'm hoping so since the biking isn't such a pounding exercise.

My legs actually don't feel too bad this morning. I feel them a bit but nothing near as bad as last week. I guess they are kind of in a "break in" period too.

I'm off to get shoes Saturday. I can't wait. I'm going to FleetFeet in Tulsa. I've heard a lot of good things about them. And, they are supposed to have a comprehensive shoe fitting program.

Greg, biking and running really don't use the same muscles, so it is fine to do them on consecutive (i.e., bike one day, run the next) days as long as you feel okay. Obviously, if you start getting lower leg pains from running (probably shin splints - real common in rookies), back off. Then, throw in a mix of weights and you will be a lean, mean, duathlon machine.

I know it's a sick thought, but I'm considering even experimenting with swimming and maybe doing a sprint tri this summer. I never thought those words would come out of my mouth, wow!

I went to the running store at lunch today (FleetFeet in Tulsa) and before I knew it they had me on the treadmill looking at my stride then tried 4 pair of shoes on me. $113 later I ended up with a pair of Asics GT2130's and a pair of Barega (?) enduro socks. I want to run tonight but it's weights and recumbent bike on the menu. Discipline sucks, I wanna RUN!!!

Asics 2130 are excellent choice. I have the 2120 last year's model but will go with the 2130 or 2140 next.

I think the sprint tri is a great idea!

Bench press, probably 7 sets, 6-10 reps. Kept doing sets until my chest was worn out.

Tricep pushdowns, 5 sets of approximately 8 reps per set.

Finished up with 45 hard minutes on the bike.

Nutrition: Still eating well. I'll weigh again Thursday and expect I'll be below 210, hopefully 208. I would really like to be 205 by Thanksgiving but I've got to buckle down to make it happen. As long as I stay super focused thru the weekend it shouldn't be a problem.

Tomorrow: I'll be coming home a little early, running about 2 1/2 miles or so then jumping on the bike for the remainder of the hour. I'm having serious thoughts about a sprint tri. However, I may focus on increasing my running distance 1st. I figure I'll tackle the running 1st then eventually break down and start swimming which is something I've never done before as a form of exercise. We'll see what happens!

Yesterday: 5K on treadmill at 1% slope in 27:45. Last mile in 8:13. My next goal is to be able to do all three miles at that pace.

I got up at 4:15am, ran to the YMCA (2.2 miles, 19:00), swam 1 mile and ran back (18:00). Added another mile on treadmill at 1% slope in 7:24.

Ran 2.5 miles in somewhere around 26-28 minutes.

New shoes felt really good. There is so much room in them and they almost feel lose. But, they (shoe store) must know what they are talking about. I had no rubs/blisters anywhere.

Off day for running tomorrow. I'm working back and bi's and riding the bike again.

UPDATE on the divorce: Let me vent a short while. I've been trying to salvage this thing ever since the subject came up. I've worked hard and conquered many of the issues that arose and never got any input/help/willingness to change from her. I mean I got shut down every attempt I made. Today I'm talking to my wife and she says "so, are we doing Christmas shopping together?". What! OMG, I couldn't believe it. Has she lost her mind? The kicker is, each year around this time my folks usually give each of us 3 kids a Christmas Bonus. Hmm, what could be her motive?

Needless to say, I very politely told her I was having a really hard time with it because of all the effort I have made to salvage this marriage and got shut down everytime. Now she wants to do shopping/spending together. I never told her NO but kept reiterating how tough of a time I was having with it after all that has transpired. She didn't say a word. Finally she said, we'll just each do our own shopping. Guess that's settled. OK, off my soapbox. Hope everyone is doing well. Talk to you later, Greg

The female of the species never ceases to amaze me, nor do they cease to insult my gender. I don't know why women do the things they do. I'm female and I still can't figure women out. I have no idea why women do these stupid things. I must have been brought up differently than the rest of the world, because I would never think of doing anything like that. It's so ridiculous and stupid, it would never come to the forefront of my mind.

It's time for me to vent now. I loathe 90% of the women on the planet because they are manipulative, self-serving douche bags. There, I said it and I'm feeling really good now :D

I just hijacked your thread, Greg

My thread is your thread my dear. I was just totally shocked when i got the phone call. We were discussing things about the house, visitation etc then this. WOW.

If I'd have done this she'd have written a book about it. But, I really was shocked!

But, I did get in another good run, YES!

I'm still in San Diego. Up at 5:00am, ran 2.2 miles to YMCA (20:00), 30:00 on stationary bike, and 2.2 miles back (22:00)

Nice workout G8R. Intense, to the point and now you are done for the day. Cool!

Thank you too ILM. I rock a little more each day! Thanks for noticing, lol. And, all of you here help me to keep on rockin on. THANKS!!! Each day gets a little easier.

I just weighed right before lunch..........209.8 lbs. That's the 1st time I've been below 210 in I don't know how long. The tough thing is I've still got almost another 20 to go. Maybe more, depending on what I look like at 190.

Tried old jeans on last night. Even at 190 I wore a 34" waist. I could easily fit into both of the 34" waist pairs last night. They are still a little tight in the waist but in a few weeks they will be fine. The butt and legs are not near as tight as they used to be. So, looks like my body composition has changed more than I thought. I guess I've lost a little in my legs and butt however I love the shape of my legs and they are already starting to seperate pretty good so leaner is better in my opinion. I'd rather keep the shape in my legs and hold more mass in my upper body. A little more weight loss and I'll have a better feel for where this whole thing is going. 7.3 pounds to go and I'll post my 75% progress pics. I'm getting pumped up about this now. Watch out back and bi's, here I come!!!

I posted them in the photo gallery at 215 lbs, a few weeks back. I'll post again at 75% of my goal which will be right around 202 lbs. Then, I'll post again at 190 lbs. My legs are already seperating really well but I'm ready to start seeing some striations in my quads.

There was an old thread on legs, a long time ago. I actually posted pics from the bodybuilding contest I did in high school. Give me a few minutes and I'll post links to my recent pics then my legs pics. Talk to ya later, Greg

Here's my recent post at about 215 lbs and older pics at around 240.

Here's the old thread about legs.

Now, that's at 162 lbs so they won't be that cut but they should look OK!
