Finding Myself in Me

The key is to get right back into the healthy mindset, good for you!

Thats the summary right there. The Mindset. Thats what its all about. Once you can train the mind then you ar onto something very good and your life will change for the better for ever. Its all in the mind. Over 50% of all our trianing and eating is mental, nothing else.

Fat Clothes

In an attempt to help myself feel good about me a little bit more today, I started cleaning out my closet to get rid of everything I've shrunk out of.

So far I've pulled out:

3 skirts
17 prs of pants/slacks
7 prs capris
2 suits
22 tops/blouses
2 dresses
4 prs of jeans
2 prs denim shorts
5 prs or workout pants
3 workout hoodies
and
2 lingerie corsets

That is 69 items!! Un-freakin-believeable..and the sad part is... i may not be done.
It's amazing how many EMPTY hangers I have now.. LOL

However... my closet can breathe again and I feel a trip to a consignment shop coming on :)

I would cry if I had to thin out my shoes tho ;) LMAO

Follow up to Surgery

I had my staples removed today!! YAY!!

Some, but not all restrictions were lifted. I can walk/jog or ride a bike now, but no "heavy lifting" for another 2-3 weeks. I kinda figured that though.

This doc walked into the exam room today and gave me a look that spoke volumes.

He honestly did not know how to start addressing me. I think he wanted to apologize for ever doubting the fact I knew that this "lump" was more than he gave it credit for, but didn't quite know how to say that.

He also told me a bit more about what was removed.

The tumor was (as he put it) embedded in my left anterior (front) oblique, but only in the first layer. The middle layer and inside layer (closest to my internal organs) were not touched/shaved.

I was told that as he cut into it, I bled out some .."like a stuck pig" as he put it. "You were a bloody mess!!

The tumor was the size of a grapefruit. It had blood vessels that grown into and around it that had severe thrombosis (full of blood clots) and some had become necrotic (dead tissue) which could have become very serious. I was told if they had gotten much worse, (which looked like it could have been soon, actually), they would have gone gangrenous and I could have died.

This was much more than he expected. It was much more than anyone expected.

insert a thoughtful pause. My life was on the line and i had no clue...

(pause over)
Anyway.. as he was removing the staples, we had a conversation about my skin.

Doc: "You need to have all of this excess skin removed."

Me: "yes.. i know. I can't afford it and since it's considered 'cosmetic'... no insurance is gonna cover it"

Doc: "have you priced it out already? How much does a belt lipectomy run?"

Me: " Two years ago when I went to see 2 plastic surgeons, the lipectomy alone was $15K"

Doc: "wow!"

Me: "yeah.. i know. but you said 'needed'... just what did you mean by that? do you know what needs to be said to the insurance company to make it a medical necessity? And besides... you were right there! Why didn't you just help a girl out!? hehe"

Doc: "not yet.. let me think about it and I'll let you know"

Me: "too bad the psychological aspect is never taken into consideration"

Doc: "i know.. You should go back to another PS now. I bet the price has dropped."

Me: "why? How?"

Doc: "Plastic surgeons are the first in the medical field to feel the crunch of a recession because their patients are usually 'cash only' and people don't have the money to be spending on bigger boobs. haha"

So... I have some thinking to do and it's all going to revolved around creative financing and convincing the insurance company to look at removing this excess as preventative instead of cosmetic. We'll see. :)

Vid of before/after pix of a belt lipectomy surgery:

Wow, that video is impressive (although they did hide the scars with the undies in all of them). It must be exciting for you to see that and believe its possible for you as well. I hope it works out for you somehow : )

How about a part time job at a plastic surgery center? They usually give discounts to the employees :p

Oh man... if I knew how to get that accomplished...I'd be on it like white on rice!! :) ...or maybe brown rice since this IS a health conscientious site ;).. hehehe

No matter what stage you are at in your life a clean out is always beneficial. If you havent used it in the last 6 months it probably means that you dont really need it, there are a few exceptions of course.
How good do we feel after a big clear out, fresh, you know where everything is and you are ready. It not onl.y physically cleans your place up but your mind will feel clean also, a lot lighter and less congested as you know where everything is.

"6 month clear outs!!!" big thumbs up

First Ride Since...

If I could do a cartwheel without hurting myself right now, I soooo would!!

I took the bike out tonight and did a 5 mile ride and I have to tell you...

It felt absolutely lovely to breathe hard and sweat and get dirty and feel the muscles that have been stagnant for a week move and push and swell with blood and O2.

Sweat! It does my body good :D

Too much?? Nah ;)

Yesterday I went to the gym with my friend Maryann and while she pedaled on the recumbent bike, I parked BOB (Big Old Butt) on a spin bike and went to town!

The bikes have a pre-programmed spin video/instruction so I did a 25 min spin, moderate intensity, moderate RPE...

Today... Got up, got dressed and got out the bike and did an INTENSE 11.15 mile ride. The sun was shining.. about 84 deg F, and where I live (close to the gulf coast) - headwind the entire time.. LOL... but it makes for less sweat dripping in the face.. hahaha

So now i'm off to relax.. goin to the beach to veg for a few hours. Besides... I have a really good book to read that has absolutely NOTHING to do with International Business Law..LOL

Have a lovely day!! :)

HUGE ride for me

I decided to do a long ride... just to see what it would be like... so I did it this morning.

36.42 miles!!!! That is ginormous for me!!

It took longer than expected because I had a couple of side tracks... i got sick :( I ate before I took off... whole wheat pita/ pb&J... Got about 3/4 of the way through the first half of the ride and yakked (ick), then made it to the 1/2 way point and yakked 2 more times.. double ick..

I tried to hydrate, but sometimes even water comes back up.. dammit...

Anyway..The ride was great!

What I would like to know is what are good, portable, small portioned items i could take with me to keep up the carb intake and not make me yak..again.. anymore??

Thx in advance for the help :)

36 miles is long ride.

there are many bioking groups that meet and wear uniforms and ride in packs and only do 20-25!

you are a contender!

good girl!

FF

wet wet wet

Took off today on another bike ride.. not a long one tho...only about 11.5 miles or so..

However during this ride, a storm front rolled thru and i got caught out in it and it wasn't pretty. Lots of lightning.. and rain coming down in sheets.

Can you say Drownicus Ratticus!? haha

Soaked.. clear to the bone.. shoes were dripping.. clothes were dripping...just a mess

Plus! peeps here don't usually watch for bikes anyway and then when you add rain..
Let's just say apparently somewhere on my person were concentric circles and the word TARGET across my behind..

Anyway... got home and took a hot shower to try to warm up... as it is.. i'm still chattering some.. and i DESPISE being cold... :(

Maybe... just maybe....

I have an 18 yr old daughter who in the last year or so has packed on about 30lbs. Part of this weight gain is due to BC (birth control) meds and the fact she is just plain lazy!

So late July I get the following text message:

"ok so i really need to lose like 30 pounds :( can you think of any like good diet strategies?"

I told her I could help her, but she wouldn't like it because it meant an effort on her part to modify her diet, add exercise and be willing to sweat..LOL

Her response:
"i do not care. i look like blimp. And i'm tired of it. i want to be size 3 pants again. Not a 7"

I thought cool! She's fired up and motivated and really wants to do something about herself!! Alas... I was mistaken. Her idea of exercise was a good brisk sit.

She didn't do anything for 2 weeks... Then last week, I'm chatting with my coach and the child asks me...
"Do you think he could help me too?!?"

So I set them up on IM and he gave her some good, solid advice on making small changes that will make improvements. She took everything he said in and for the span of about 3 hours, made an effort.. and I thought YAY!!

Nope.. she reverted back to not doing anything..again!

Nothing changed... Not until yesterday (Saturday) when she asked

"Mommy (yes- she still calls me that..lol)... next time you go on a long bike ride can I go with?"

Of course, I told her she could... but past knowledge of her behavior meant it was highly doubtful she would actually go.

Today.. I left the house early to help a truly wonderful person unbox part of their life and get it back out in a most excellent, new office location... cleaned up the space a bit...helped get it a little organized and came home... fixed lunch... did a Good Sam gas and beer run :D, got home again and started to work on homework when I got another text from the girl child..

"mom are you home yet? and can we ride today?"

And we did. I dropped everything to go with her. Nothing too hard and at a slower pace than what i'm used to pushing myself to do, but it was a good pace for her and WE did 6.26 miles.

She worked/I worked.. she sweat/I sweat.. we both felt good when we got home.

And now, she also appreciates getting squirted with water at the end of the ride.. because it feels great!! :)

Today has been totally cool :D

Thats a great story and the start of what could defiantly be an unreal journey.
Isn't it so much better when there are tow of your with some great goals.
I look forward to hearing a lot more about this great partnership you have as mother and daughter.

Thank you! She's a good kid.. just lacks a bit of direction - but then again - show me a teenager who doesn't need some bit of guidance :)

I think if she can wrap her head around this one concept - taking care of herself - and setting & sticking to a regime - it's possible she will see how accountability to SELF bleeds over into the rest of her life choices.

So of course I am going to be there to help her :)

Looks like you have been one busy chick! lol :)

So good to see not only you are able to get out there now, but you got your girl out there too! Go mama!!!

Busy: –adjective / actively and attentively engaged in work or a pastime.

I have come to the conclusion that the word "busy" is a often overlooked, underestimated, benign, yet poignant 4-letter word... hehehehehe
