Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

Hey guys. I'm still here. I will fully admit that I've been throwing a little bit of a temper tantrum the last few days. My oblique was starting to hurt worse so I decided to take the week off of the gym. Good news is that it's feeling better and I'm going to try and go back tomorrow. Bad news is that for some reason I completely self destruct when I can't go to the gym. I don't know why and I try not to do it. Point is, I've been eating like a dumpster since Saturday and am trying to rein myself back in. Still soda free though, so that's something.

Still soda free and not throwing in the towel. As long as you get back on track within a couple of days instead of letting days become weeks you´ll be fine.

Let's try to make Tuesday a re-set day Cory & get back on track. I'll weigh in then & start going for a walk at least every day. A plan. We need a plan!

Ok, I'm not going to go into too much detail about my behavior over the weekend, but it wasn't great. Lots of beer, tequila, and candy.

But, I am 63 days soda free today and M is going to start teaching another class during the week so those are both good things. Time to get myself back on this horse.

Lama: I sure hope so. I kind of have a real issue with soda. Cake, cookies, that kind of thing might not be good for you as a whole, but they do at least offer some marginal nutritional value. Soda has literally nothing good about it. It is just sugar water. In my part of the US, obesity and diabetes are a HUGE issue because people are poor. They buy junkfood because it's a relatively cheap luxury. I got to the point where I kind of felt like people were paying these huge companies to help keep them fat and sick.

Cate: Thank you! I'll be so excited to get to 100 days.

Yesterday was good! I'm so happy to have had a day that feels like I'm going in the right direction again. M's new class had a lot to do with helping my mind frame. Originally I had planned to do both his new class and the hip hop class that follows right after, but I made myself leave after one. Might not seem like a good choice, but it really was. Since I was out of town over the weekend, I didn't have a chance to grocery shop and meal prep. By skipping the second class, I gave myself the opportunity to do that. Part of me REALLY wanted the instant gratification I get from the class itself, but I knew I'd be more successful over the week if I just left and did my meal prep.

Food:
Breakfast: skipped
Lunch: rotisserie chicken with green beans and sweat potato - 839 calories
Dinner: Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts - 842 calories
Total: 1681 calories

Exercise:
1 hour dance fitness

Soda free for 64 days!

True and heart-breaking.

One More Time: I actually started doing them at 280. I'm young and have been fat for a long time, so it maybe doesn't impact me physically as much as folks who were skinny when they were younger and gained weight later in life.

Cate: Definitely is. Hope you're doing well too.

Lama: It really really is. I don't live in that part of the US anymore and have since moved to one of the thinnest and most in shape parts of the country. It also happens to be one of the wealthiest parts of the country too. Very weird to have lived in both extremes.

Yesterday was good, but I am a little disappointed. It turns out that M has moved his class from Tuesday to Monday, not added another class to the schedule. I'm not any worse off than I was before, but I had gotten excited to have another class to potentially go to. I will say that I forced myself to step on the scale today after the trainwreck that last week was. Up to 239.2 Basically only half a pound gain, so I can't be too upset at that I guess. Food was good yesterday.

Food:
Breakfast: oatmeal - 175 calories
Lunch: Swiss steak with mashed potatoes and blackberries - 677 calories
Dinner: Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and a salad - 942 calories
Total: 1794 calories

Exercise:
1 hour dance fitness

65 days soda free!

Still here ya'll! Just been doing other stuff and haven't had as much time to post. Quick recap for Wednesday through Sunday. Thursday was bad. We had a party at work to celebrate a success and there was cake. Then I met my brother and his girlfriend at this Mexican restaurant we really like. Wound up being around a 2500 calorie day with no exercise. I won't go into to much specifics, but Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were all fine. Was under 1800 calories for all of those days. On Wednesday I also did a big zumbathon fundraiser thing, so we dance for close to 2 hours. Didn't exercise for basically the rest of the week, but I got a lot done at the house. I'm sort of taking a hiatus on weight lifting until after my Highland Games competition this weekend, partially because I want to be fresh for it, but also because I'm thinking I should change my program and I'm not sure what I want to do yet. I've basically been running the same program for more than a year and I think that's why I've been having a hard time motivating to go lift lately. I'm just bored of it. Soooooo, I'll probably try to hook up with my brother after the games and we can talk about what might be a good next move for me.

Still soda free! Yesterday made 70 days!

If a 2500 kcal day is the worst you do these days and that happens once a week I say you´re doing great. Have fun at the games!

Well done for being soda free!! And the fundraiser :) Dancing for 2 hours sounds like a really fun way to burn some calories! It's also really impressive that you've stuck to the same program for over a year. And from what I've read you've really improved so one high-cal day a week isn't too bad at all! Hope you can find a new program that works for you :)

Switching things around will be good for you Cory & a 2500 day is just that. You are doing well :)

Thanks guys!

Yesterday was really good. Just felt like a success all the way around. I'm thinking this week is going to be a good one! Not much else to say.

Food:
breakfast: muffin - 460 calories
lunch: jambalaya with white rice - 641 calories
dinner: Mexican lasagna with lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream - 822 calories
Total: 1903 calories

Exercise:
2 hours dance fitness

Yesterday was a good day. Went to zumba and did well with food. I think a friend and I who take zumba together are going to maybe cut one class out during the week and go do an actual dance class. Hip-hop, most likely. We were just talking about how we kind of wanted to learn to dance for real and hip-hop looks like the most fun. Will probably start going next week now that M has moved his class to Monday. There's a hip-hop class that is very well reviewed on Tuesday nights.

Starting to get nervous about my upcoming Highland Games. I have not been able to practice enough at all. I think I've only been to like....three. There's one even that I've only done one time (and not successfully). Oh well, I've paid my entry dues and it is what it is. Everyone there is generally very nice and friendly to beginners. I've been to some games where some of the contestants involved had never done any of the events at all prior to stepping on the field.

Food:
Breakfast: chia pudding with a scoop of protein powder and strawberries - 321 calories
Lunch: veggie curry with basmati rice - 679 calories
Dinner: grilled pork chop with baked potato and roasted vegetables - 607 calories
Snack: 2 oatmeal raisin cookies - 235 calories
Total: 1842 calories

Exercise:
1 hour dance fitness
