Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

I'm envious of your dance fitness class Cory. I used to LOVE going to dance class. Are you staying with your parents for the weekend?

I'd rather do 200 calories of grapes instead of 700
I'd call that a good trade off.

Cate, I did stay with them for the weekend, although they were gone for most of it. My brother and I went home so we could watch my grandmother while my parents went to see my mom's dad. They came home early enough on Sunday that we could still celebrate my mom's birthday.

This weekend was kind of a train wreck. Friday wasn't too bad. Had around 2500 calories. Saturday and Sunday were both at about 3,000 though. I probably broke even on Saturday because I went to this dance place that I found in my hometown and did two classes. I had like four or five people come up after class and tell me how well I dance and how much energy I have. I wanted to tell them it's all because M has trained me to push all the time because he restarts songs if he feels like we aren't giving enough of ourselves. :p I wish my food consumption had been lower, but it was somewhat hard to control because the whole weekend was basically a party, either with friends or with my parents. I had a lot of fun, but I did probably undo all the good I did last week. Oh well. Time to get back on the wagon. I did make myself go grocery shop when I got home last night and tried to push myself more towards things to make more protein focused meals.

Yesterday made 42 days soda free! Despite all the bad behavior, I didn't compromise on that.

Yesterday was mixed. I did good with food and went and lifted, but my anxiety was SKY HIGH all day. I left my house, convinced myself I had left the hair dryer on (which is retarded because you'd think I would notice something like a hair dryer being on when I left), turned around, and drove back home to make sure it was off. I also get randomly fixated on accidentally committing a felony? I don't know what to say about that other than that I do realize it's a special kind of crazy to get preoccupied with that. I think it's because my sleep schedule is messed up from the time change and I consumed a crap ton of sugar over the weekend. Much less anxious today.

Dinner: shrimp with garlic sauce - 1130 calories
Total: 1787 calories

Exercise:
Overhead Press:
55 lbs 1x5
65 lbs 1x5
70 lbs 1x6

Deadlifts:
120 lbs 1x5
135 lbs 1x5
155 lbs 1x5

Dumbell Rows:
15 lbs 3x12

Banded Leg Curls:
3x25

I'm a little disappointed I didn't get a sixth deadlift on the last set. I didn't HAVE to, but I like to try to go one over the minimum amount. It just wasn't feeling good though so I figured it was better to quit while I was ahead.

Anxiety sucks. I saw a post on FB the other day of someone photographing the stove before leaving the house so they could check they´d really turned it off. Loved the idea! Anxiety isn´t reasonable, sadly, so you can´t get rid of it with reasonable means.

Anxiety absolutely sucks & logic just doesn't seem to come into it. I often wake feeling really anxious & it takes me a while to calm down. I can't always do it either. It comes from nowhere.

Yesterday was good. Did two classes with M. It was rouggghhh thought because my hamstrings were really sore from doing deadlifts for the first time in a month and a half on Monday. Not too much else to say. Dance fun. Food good.

Yesterday was good. I had originally intended to go lift, but wasn't feeling great physically and decided to move that session to Friday. I did get a lot done though. I'm still trying to get my house organized and made a lot of progress on that front. I also did some general cleaning and some laundry. The laundry turned out to be a more difficult process though because as soon as I turned on the dryer the smell of dryer sheets became overwhelming. Soooooo, I had to pull the dryer out from its little closet and climb behind it (this closet it seriously tiny and I am decidedly not tiny). I found that the vent pipe had fallen loose. Managed to get it hooked back up, but in doing so I had to pull the dryer back in on myself. I kind of wish there was video of my trying to get back out.

Breakfast: cornflakes and almond milk - 225 calories
Lunch: Indian buffet - 1434 calories
Dinner: skipped
Total: 1659 calories

Exercise:
None, unless you count fighting with a dryer.

Quick add. My hips and knees are hurting today. I know it's because my IT bad is all fucked up, but I'm not sure what to do about it. I used to foam roll, but new research has shown that foam rolling the IT band doesn't really do much other than irritate it more.

Dryer sheets & fabric softener are very toxic & have some very nasty chemicals in them which are known carcinogens, hormone disruptors & can really play havoc with allergies. I think fabric softener affects me more than any other fragranced product. It just hangs around as it coats the material just like dryer sheets do.
Hope your joints aren't as painful today!

Hi Cory,

I am not sure if I have ever posted on your diary before. If I haven't I am not sure why not-lol. I am a runner and IT band injuries are prevalent in runners. I am not sure if you are a runner too. There are lots of stretches for this to do both before and after exercise. They seem to help. I know when I have IT issues the first thing I check are my runners. 9 times out of 10 it was time to get rid of them. Once I did - the IT pains went away.

I am not one to push a lot of stretching, however in this case you do need to stretch it after you are nice and warm. As a massage therapist the IT band is painful to be worked on for everybody and not always effective.

Lama: I will assume it burned 3200 calories.
Cate: That's what was so concerning. You definitely don't want to be breathing that stuff in and the smell of it was just so strong. Really glad I motivated myself to look at it.
Cowboy: Hi! I think I've maybe posted once or twice in your diary, but it was a loooooong time ago. I'll come check it out. Re: shoes, I think you might be correct on that. I don't run, but I do a lot of dance fitness classes and my shoes are over a year old. Usually I replace them every 6 months or so. It just hit me that I had been wearing this pair for so long.
Tru: I appreciate the advice and will look up some good stretches for this. It's something I've had an issue with for years, I think because I rode horses for so long.

Went to H's class yesterday and it was kind of meh. I don't think it was him at all. I just wasn't feeling it and my muscles just felt very fatigued the whole time. I'm going to try and lift today, but I'm not sure how it'll go. I might need to eat more protein.

Also, I want to make it a goal to try and do well this weekend. I've kind of been stagnating and I know it's because I do ok during the week, but the last few weekends since I've been back here I have not behaved well and it undoes all the good I do during the week. I really need to see the scale go down and I'm getting frustrated.

Breakfast: skipped
Lunch: broiled salmon with quinoa salad - 806 calories
Dinner: stacked enchiladas - 841 calories
Total: 1647 calories

Exercise:
1 hour dance fitness

I´ll try and join you in not undoing the hard weekday work during a lazy weekend. It´s annoying, unnecessary and demotivating.

Rebel: Stacked enchiladas are just regular enchiladas stacked on top of each other like lasagna instead of rolled up.
Lama: So far so good for me. How about you?

Yesterday was good, although I had to move lifting to today. Original plan was lift yesterday, highland games practice today, and do dance tomorrow. Highland games got moved to tomorrow, so I had to rearrange things to still maintain the basic schedule. The dance class was great though. An instructor (J), that I really like had moved away and recently came back. Really good class. I was pretty productive too. Got several pictures framed and hung, which is nice because my house is really starting to look like a home now. I also did step one in getting my aquarium set up. I'll let the water kind of....sit and filter for a week and then go get some fish next weekend.

Breakfast: biscuits and gravy - 590 calories
Lunch: Cajun salmon with quinoa primavera and green beans - 764 calories
Dinner: 3 egg omlette with cheese, bacon, peppers, and mushrooms - 375 calories
Total: 1729 calories

Exercise:
1 hour dance fitness
