209.2 lbs, 97.0F today.

Is my weight trending down? Being really hungry is good!? :p

So this is where you've been hiding your diary!

Now I just need to figure out that fancy system you use for the weight training stuff.

And no worries about ruining my welcome party.. I'll just fade into the background! =)

Hullo.

Green is good, red is bad. Blue is the difference from last time. It helps me push real hard because I don't like getting bad grades. Just like primary school, haha. I've been mostly green since I started and I aim to keep it that way if at all humanly possible. (It can be difficult to impossible on a deficit diet, supposedly, but not necessarily for a beginner like myself).

Keto induction - over.

I've decided I am officially induced, haha. It's been 3 weeks and a day today, and whatevers.

Time to re-introduce WO nutrition in the form of half a serving of Surge prior and half posterior. I don't like having to worry about whether I'm gimping my strength training with this. I have plenty of room to add my serving of surge without going over 60g carb/day, though I suspect even a hundred or so will be fine (see: make no difference) as long as it's around the workout window.

I can't wait to try things like chocolate milk and protein + gatorade mixes but I kinda have a massive supply of Biotest products I gotta get through first. Which should only take about 6 months or so at 3 servings per week, hahaha.

Interesting fact: it turns out what I thought was a serving of Surge before was actually only 2/3 of a serving. I had made a stupid assumption regarding the directions and the scoop sizes.

Only got about 3-4 weeks until Velocity. Kinda dreading it, I won't lie. Not eating is much easier for me than making myself drink protein shakes all day.

C5K Week 2, Workout 1

Ran 2.6 miles tonight. Went out in the -10 C cold to do it, too.

I decided to modify the program a bit to make it a little more challenging. What I did was instead of 90s run/ 120s walk I did 90s run/90s walk. Which of course means I did 7 intervals instead of 6. I also tried to control my urge to run really fast for the first couple laps. As you can see those two changes resulted in a pretty hefty decrease in overall distance, but they also made for a smoother and more enjoyable run. It felt like sailing through the clouds. I really liked it. :D

Yeah, I'd definitely say your "inducted" into keto...

so you are going to do the velocity diet?!

I am looking forward to hearing how that goes.... won't have any confusion measuring calories on that type of diet. Just protein shakes.

Shugert said that you can expect to lose like 30 pounds of BODYFAT on that diet, not just water weight.

I think he's completely full of **** in that respect, but hey.

Amen, brother. That's just one of the many things I'll like about it.

Although this calorie counting isn't so bad. I've just stopped eating bacon. It was hardly satisfying anyway. In place of 6 strips of bacon I can have more than a lb of shrimp. And by can I mean I just did. Well, I tried. I could only get about 8 oz down with some cheese and an egg, but it was quite satisfying after that run.

I've noticed average weight loss (after water regain, and assuming people aren't lying) is often 15 or 20 lbs. I really think I will do well on it. It's just a matter of forcing myself to drink nasty protein shakes 8 damn times a day. I may lose my mind along with my fat. :p But that's sort of the idea. I want to prove to myself that I have complete control over what I take in, even to the extent of forgoing food entirely (almost) and forcing myself to utilize what is probably the most disgusting-tasting nutrient source available (to me).

How long is the velocity diet?

28 days of shakes (with one solid meal a week - has to be healthy and not excessive), followed by a two week transition back to solid foods. So 6 weeks or so.

Depending on how things go I may stay with balanced eating afterward. I will definitely take a week off from all training and calorie deprivation once I've transitioned out of Velocity. I'll have damn well earned it at that point.

Damn right :)

What kind of shake are you going to pick? Is there any limitations?

I really like ON's extreme milk chocolate.

From what I understand it has to be almost pure protein (2g'ish or so of carb or less per serving) as there is a daily carb limit. It's like liquid keto, minus the fat for energy. So, nothing that tastes decent, haha.

I dunno. I may just go with Metabolic Drive because I have a couple containers of that, but the stuff tastes terrible. I've tried pretty much everything now, even Evo's strawberry Syntha 6 (which has like 10-14g or something of carb per serving!) and I just don't like the stuff. I used ON chocolate mint for quite a while and thought it was decent. But for 8 times a day? I can barely stomach one. Haven't really thought it through. Maybe I'll just get a variety of different brands and flavors. Won't really help but it'll be fun. Like a Tour de Protein. :D

Hm, that's interesting stuff. I guess I didn't think much about that diet until now.

But jee, how many grams of carbs are allowed per day? You'd think they would have to give you like... 100 or something right? Unless the goal is to make your body burn protein as a fuel source?

I wonder what the science is behind it..

I don't think there is any. I mean it's Chris Shugart. Kidding, of course. It's basically a starvation simulation diet, not unlike keto. You get all the protein you need and more but unlike keto you get virtually nothing as a proper energy source (well other than fish oils, if you're gonna count them). Other than around your WO (which is included in the daily carb total, and never exceeds 50g or so, aiming for more like 50g or less on non-workout (and hence non-WO drink) days and 100g max total on. That's 50g of carb over 18 servings of protein powder and some other junk.

Linky
if you're curious, but that's basically all there is to it. I just happen to know a starvation diet will work really well for me, haha. And I like his reasoning for it because it fits with my masochistic personality. I mean forcing myself to follow the rules and whatnot rather than just starving myself and working real hard is all lovely and **** but just once I'd like to "do the opposite" and "bring the pain". Hence, the Velocity Diet. Plus the whole dramatic finish to the contest thing. If I lose, I'm gonna do it like a rockstar. :D

Did a keto check this morning and I'm still at trace-light, which is about as high as I ever seem to get.

You know, in Lyle's book he says this is all you ever need to make sure you are in ketosis. I'd say you are definitely in ketosis and I wouldn't worry about it.

He says that you will only get higher traces if you aren't drinking enough water.

The only times I got over a trace or small is when I just ate a TON of fat. Like one time I drank probably 1500 calories or more of heavy cream... lol.

I had it in my chocolate keto ice cream.... I felt like puking afterwards.. haha. It was so good though... just couldn't stop adding more cream... haha.

Yep. I'm not terribly worried about it, anyway. I don't think it makes much of a difference to my mutant metabolism. Alls I know is keto isn't as much fun as it used to be with the pepperoni, bacon and sausages. At this calorie level I'm restricted to mostly lean meat, eggs and the occasional bit of cheese (to get enough protein). And yet I am somehow still not losing weight. XD

o_O. Das a lot of cream. Damn youse. Now I want some...

Keto ice cream, eh. Honestly I just don't care enough to do anything interesting like that. I have a hard enough time convincing myself that baking/broiling/grilling bunches of meat all at once is worth the clean up effort, haha.

Shrimp has very recently become a big favorite because I can just defrost it with cold running water and eat it. Takes a while, though, and it fills me up waay too much. 400 calories of shrimp is almost enough to put me in a coma, haha. The last couple nights I took shrimp as a sedative. And it worked. :D

I don't understand how your not losing weight, especially after looking at those pictures, you definitely looked slimmer. I guess the only explanation is that you built some muscle to replace that fat... right?

Yeah, I know what you mean about the clean up. If you are just making food for yourself there's not a lot of reason to really prepare great meals... unless you enjoy cooking or something.

I always still made the flaxbread, though. I ate so many hamburgers you wouldn't believe it... haha. During the superbowl they were selling 80/20 ground beef for like 1.68 a pound, I bought 12 pounds of that stuff and was eating 6 oz hamburgers for a loooong time.

I ate them with ranch dressing, couple pickles, and cheese.... that's one of the things I miss about keto right there!
