Good morning everyone,

It's so great to read everyone's posts and at how encouraging you all are.

lisab: glad to hear you had a good night at the Mexican restaurant and what strength you showed with food choices as usually there is so much cheese and sauces with this type of food. Very hard to resist. Well done.

lizzi: congratulations on your achievement so far and for being so positive. You must feel so proud and so different. You would have gone down a few dress sizes as well. A before and after pic would be very inspiring to us all. Keep it up.

Pinkcandy: it's amazing how our bodies adjust to the different foods and quantities with this program. Put it all behind you and go forward. We all have had a few of those days. :(

PinkVirgo: you are doing well and keep up the good work. You will be rewarded for your efforts. :)

Moni: don't be disheartened. Look at the overall picture and at what you have achieved in such a short time. My doctor told me once that when you lose weight, your body needs time to register and catch up with the weightloss. It then starts to lose again. You are very inspiring to all of us and you will soon be at goal. :D

Cryss: an important milestone birthday. How exciting. Maybe this is not good advice.....I don't know. It is nice you are going out to dinner for YOUR special day and I also realise we don't have to reward ourselves with food. You would be fairly safe in ordering your meal in the restaurant but I would consider having just ONE glass of wine or champagne or whatever you would like to drink. If there is a special cake for you, have a tiny taste as well. Yes, there will be other healthy birthdays but you are celebrating this one at this point in time. Back on track on Friday. I hope it is an enjoyable evening for you all. :D

Hello to everyone,

Well done to everyone who is doing so well.
I have not posted in a while; have been super busy at work! I have stuck to the program 100% so far, and am now starting to feel disheartened after no loss this week. I thought this may happen later on but I still have 33kg to go & I am only going into week 6.
Sorry to open with a whinge, but I really feel like I need to hear this is okay from someone who understands, rather than from my tiny friends who have never had to diet.

Well done to everyone who is doing so well.

I was reading back over old posts and someone mentioned Cohen’s style gravy. Sorry I can remember who it was, but if anyone knows how to make it, can you please share?

Take care everyone; hope you all have a good week.

End of Wk 15, Day 105

Like Moni I've had a slow week of weightloss as well, only losing 1kg this week bringing me to 97kg. Which is dis-heartening at first thought, but when you look at the bigger picture every little bit counts. I'd really like to be 95kg by next Sunday.

My mum who's also been on the Cohens program (started when I did) has got 6kg left to go until she starts her re-feed - Im soo proud of her & happy for her - Im jelous of her excitment!! - shes soo tiny now! My mum has only broken once on this diet & that was at my Engagement Party dinner, other than that - she has powered through & will come out a winner. She experienced a period of about 3 weeks where she lost absolutely nothing - but her determination got her through.

I went out to the shops yesterday, my intentions were just to go to 'Lowes' to pick up some cheap polo T-shirts that I could take with me when I go to Uluru in a few wks time. When ever I've bought t-shirts in the past I just use to by the XXL mens size cos that was what was most comfortable out of my options. Anyways yesterday I managed to pick up 3 polo tops in size L for only $12 (I was estatic!), I then de-toured to Target on my way back to the car cos they had heaps good specials of all the summer clothes - anyways I've NEVER been able to buy anything decent in these sales because they never had clothes big enough to fit me. BUT not this time - I picked up 4 x 3/4 length pants & long shorts all diff colours (size 18) - white , pastel pink, black & cargo green. I carried them to the change room thinking "hmm these probably wont fit but they're worth the try". Every single pair fitted - even had room to spare, also to my surprise one of them was a size 16 - slightly diff style to the others but it fitted. I looked at myself in all 4 mirrors in the change room, a big smile emerged, did a little twirl, shed a little tear - I had not only scored 4 x pants on sale for $8 EACH, but for the FIRST time in my life I had bought pants that had colour - I've only ever stuck to black pants & jeans before - so it felt great. I also bought a 'ladies' BELT for the first time in my life yesterday! so good bye to 'BIG MAN' belts. This was a treat for getting half way!

There's been soo many posts in the last week that I've nearly lost track of where everyone's up to. There must be like 30 + ladies now following this Cohens thread!

Im totally HOOKED on Australia's Biggest Loser. For those that watch the show is there any particular contestant that you can relate to?

Earlier in the week I fell for 6 on the kitchen floor (long story!), I ended up with a swollen knee & 7 bruises on my left leg ...they are finally starting to fade away. I know we spoke about 'bruising' earlier in the forum, but I am bruising soo badly even from the slightest knock or bump - I walk into walls often, hit my legs on things, kick my toes into things - LOL - dont ask, Im a complete clutzz!

Keep up the good work everyone - Im off to the Movies...to watch TransAmerica.

I started my first day today ! I just had breakfast and to tell you the truth I really liked it. I'm taking everyone's advice with the water and going to take a bottle with me where ever I go (I have been trying to get into the habit of it for the past few days). I also just had those disgusting Blackmore's multi vitams (the one receommended by my clinic) What vitamins are the rest of you taking? Do you find it helps??

Also as I was shopping yesterday for my food, I just happened to sit across from this dress shop (full of tiny sizes) and just fell in love with this gorgeous dress. I told my mum I loved it and so she bought it for me.... in a size 12 ! She says I should hang it in my room for an incentive. I can't wait to wear it !

the point here is to stay positive in the face of dissapointment!

I have taken to not focussing on what I have left to lose, that would be too daunting at the moment, what I focus on instead are those tiny little losses, I don't care how small it is, even if it's nothing, I know I haven't put ON and that my body is adapting. Everyday I focus on the loss and how far I have come. I'm officially just over 3rd of the way through my journey, next month I'll hopefully be over half way.

Skinny friends have no idea, honestly, as awful as it sounds I really don't think that someone who has never dieted could pass comment or judgement on people like us who sometimes have to lose a whole other person! I sat there last night and realised I had lost the full weight of one of my dogs! And the worst/funniest thing, I can't even pick her up! But I used to carry that extra weight around ALL DAY.

Katie, give your friend 50kg in shopping bags and tell em to walk around all day with it, NEVER PUT IT DOWN. See if that shuts them up.

Also, on a separate note, I thought it would be good that if you are online and have the time to spare that we all agree to open up a chat window. It's good sometimes to have a conversation real-time rather than in the post and reply method.

Anyway take care all!!

Hi Gals and welcome to the newbies!

Just thought I would post something I found out that you might find encouraging. This week at work I was chatting with one of my clients and it turns out she knows two friends who had been on Cohen's a couple of years ago.
One of them never completed the program and has put all the weight back on. Her other friend stuck to it to the very end, completed refeed and has remained the same ever since!!! (give or take 1-2kg around Christmas time)
I know i found that very encouraging. In the back of my mind there's always been a 'what if it just creeps back on after all this hard work?' I know the Cohen website shows all these people who have lost and maintained, but for me it was kinda nice to hear about it in real life.
So I thought I would share it with you all. It goes to show that you are resetting your metabolism and that it is worth sticking to it to the very end- coz the pay off for sacrificing now is permanent!

Happy losing!
Nat :)

thats handy to know Nat...... I to have spoken to a couple of people that have done the program 2 completed the re-feed and the other didn't she put all her weight back on and the other 2 people have keeped their weight of for more than 2 years and look fantastic.......so stick with it guy'swe all have to get to our goals..........

that is great to know that those ppl are still keeping the weight off years later! i guess the only thing i'm worried about is that i haven't finished inside my contract time and i'm worried they wont give me my refeed. we're kind of not talking at the moment!!! i'm waiting for them to contact me and in the meantime, i'm trying really hard

how are you going NAT? surely near that refeed!!! and MYSHY, have you ordered refeed yet? thats good that you've decided to start you've tried so hard!

Thirsty

I am really thirsty this morning.
But water doesn't seem to be very satisfying. I could easily down a litre of really icy cold diet ginger beer which is my favourite. Not only do I not have any in the house before I go to work, but I KNOW I will need that litre this afternoon and this evening.
So, water it is. I am sure it is what the body needs as usual, but it doesn't FEEL satisfying.
O well, such is life when we opt for health!
Make it a good day everyone. And do yourselves the biggest favour: stay strong.

Getting started

Hello all, I am BACK!

I was on the Cohen program for 3 days before I was bombarded by a bunch of business lunches that I cannot reject. So I was advised to go off the program (no material impact since it's only been 3 days).

I have just started yesterday. Down with 0.8kg this morning. Determined to lose more!!!!

Minigoals for now -
minigoal: 90kg
minigoal: 85kg
minigoal: 80kg
minigoal: 75kg

LisaB, thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to check them out next time.

Peaches, I also start yesterday but I'm not so sure I want to look yet incase I'm disappointed... :(

Boy oh boy........

Ok I got my program last week and today is the first day. I think I can deal with the food - its trying to give up coffee that has me flipping.

I have half a cup of milk with my coffee. I can live without the sugar, but I don't think I can drink it without the milk. So I got to about 3pm today, no coffee, and have the worst headache and am feeling really fuzzy. It can't be the food - because often I won't eat anyway till after lunch - so it must be the caffiene withdrawals.

I broke - on my first day! I've got a coffee here in front of me, now. (And yeah the headache is slowly going). But I still feel fuzzy.

You guys are really amazing. I don't know how you have all done it. And I'm not sure I can - not for weeks and weeks on end.

Another thing that I've noticed how I must always need something in my hand. Before it was coffee and a cigarette......what can I really substitute?

Sorry to sound like a whiner right now, but I just want to be able to see straight and today is not the day, I guess. I might finish half this cup and then go sleep off the first day.

Sorry to barge in guys:eek: but...i know the feeling of needing something in my hands, addictions are killers...i havnt smoked but the caffeine drove me to completely chew off my nails :( i know its probably lame and uve probably heard it before, but i chew on straws and lids and suck on sugar free drops (im not sure if this diet allows that) also, its a bit extreme but a mouthguard or something like it to put in ur mouth could work...maybe...the headaches will probably go away eventually....are u allowed tea? ( i hate it lol) but u never know...but it doesnt matter if u break the first day :) tomorrow is a new day and if the world stopped just because something didnt go right...well..it would have ended a loooong time ago :D and were still standing..so its all good!:p good luck!!!

Hi everyone!,
Started my refeed today. Got to have a piece of toast this morning at breaky (fantastic). With all the breaking I have done over the term of this diet I have never cheated with bread. I struggled to get through it all but it was rreally nice.

The only other changes today are:- 1 piece of 'good fruit' - I had pineapple. "good" refers to the effect is has on your body. It was really sweet and curbed cravings.
30gms extra meat & 40gm extra vegies. Not sure what I will do with that yet - dinner isnt until 8.00pm.

Ros,
I am a coffee addict too.....but have learnt to love Decaf. Once a day or two has passed you don't even know there is a difference. You can up to three cups of normal coffee anyway, so maybe you can alternate?

As for sugarfree lollies...they are not allowed on the diet, but I'd keep the sugarfree gum (you have to wonder what the difference is!) for times when you really want to chew on something.
Hope everyone is doing well.

Myshy

LOL well it was only half a coffee....and the headache is gone, so I will stick to everything else and avoid any more coffee today. I'm still patting myself on the back that I managed to stick to the rest of it! :D

I would LOVE to give up coffee and cigs. I only started smoking again on the weekend after nearly two weeks, so we're going to try to toss that again tomorrow as well. Luckily, I have this week off work so I can have my meltdowns at home in front of my soon to be suffering husband.

Thanks everyone

Oh and I bought a journal today to list everything I eat. I figure that way if I put it down on paper, I'll be less likely to cheat - and perhaps also figure in my moods with my cycle.

- Welcome! I know the feeling hon, I'm a big milky tea or coffee (whichever I feel like at time) drinker. So when doing this diet I decided that if I could have it the way I liked it I wouldn't have it at all. I've started drinking a lot of green tea (without milk) and with two Hermesetes tablets (same as Equal, but my clinic recommended it as it isn't lactose based). I make the tea quite weak as I'm not used to it, but I've found out I really, really like it! Have also tried Chai tea the other day, and really enjoyed that too. It was the action of having a hot drink that I missed! This also helped the headaches to stop too (I had them the first day or so too - withdrawals)
What I would recommend is to look at this program as a new experience, to try new things and be willing to give everything a go - you might find that you like things you didn't before!

MYSHY -What I would give for a piece of toast!!!!! My daughter loves to have two pieces of toast with jam for breakfast some mornings, unfortunately at the moment, I have to be satisfied on smell alone!! That's fantastic you have started your refeed, you must be so excited that you're nearly there! You go girl!!!

PS Has anyone come up with that Cohen's gravy recipe yet that everyone's been on about???? I would really like to know how to make it too!

PPS Am down to 75.1 today, hopefully will have cracked the 75 mark by the morning - has been sooooo long since I was under 75, and that means I'm a third of the way there!!!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE THIS WEEK AND BE STRONG!!!!
A positive attitude will take you anywhere!!!!
