Hi Cryss,

I have about 25lbs to 30 lbs to lose:eek: . The problem is, I don't understand the conversion of the breads they sent to me. Everything I do with the diet is online, so I don't have someone to talk to like you gals do . . .I sent them an e-mail, and hopefully they will answer me soon. I was told the responses could take up to 4 days by e-mail. I understand that most of you are from Australia. That's awesome that you are all such great support for each other. I only heard of this diet by word of mouth and only know one other gal that is doing it. She has lost alot of weight, but seems to not vary too much on her diet. She uses the wasa bread . . .kinda taste like cardboard . . . that's why I was looking for other options. I'll stick with it for now, perhaps I'll get some other answers soon. Thanks for answering me. I feel kinda lost out here. I find it strange that there aren't more from the US on the chat, unless there is another forum I don't know about. I just poked around and found this one. I found one on Yahoo, but there were only 3 posts and they were from a while back. Have a great day and keep those positive thoughts going . . .

Hi again everyone,

I posted last month around page 24 and thought I'd better come back in and properly introduce myself. Scanning over the past 10 pages, I hope I didn't offend anyone with my questions re the success of the program. I think it's pretty evident by your support of each other and you're own successes that you're real life people doing a fantastic job getting some great results and this isn't some new fad thing.

I have only just found the bookmark again after getting back from the US a couple of days ago and I'd almost forgotten about Cohen's during the time away. (Is there a reply notification option to email?) I live on the Gold Coast so I'm unsure whether there's a clinic here and would like to look into it in the next few weeks.

I am a Mum of three kids aged 14, 11 and 3, and currently weigh about 78kg. Thing is, what I see of myself in the mirror is totally different to what I see in my photos (except for those horrible three-way's in Target when I absolutely have to go and get clothes for work. But the photos where my husband happened to catch me in the corner of the shot as the kids were opening their Christmas presents and the size 16-18 clothes I have to buy tell a different story to how I feel.

Anyways, I digress. I ended up in hospital in the US right after Christmas for three days with abdominal pains, infection and fever and right now nobody is really sure what is wrong, except that I have a 5cm mass near my ovary, but could be bowel. I am not back to scratch and am running to the bathroom five or six times a day. I guess I will find out more in a few days when I do another ultrasound and get the results of the latest blood tests.

But I also know that this could take months to sort out, and it has always been one thing after another to stop me from attempting a serious weight loss program. (Last year it was work and study).

I guess my question is, is there anything stopping me from starting now? From the posts I have read, it seems that a lot of the dietary requirements are totally natural foods, unprocessed etc. It couldn't hurt, could it? If anything, I'd imagine it would have to be better than the diet I've had for the past few years.

Also, does anyone know of a clinic on the Gold Coast?

You all seem to be doing so great! Congratulations!

Ros,

I had a look on the Cohens website () for QLD clinics and it has a listing for the Gold Coast - details are;

Gold Coast Clinic
35 Crombie Avenue
Bundall Qld, 4217
Telephone: (07) 5580 8880

With the 5cm mass they found near your ovary - do they have any idea of what it could be? Have you had an ultrasound done?? Back in 2001, after I had an ultrasound, a large mass was detected near my ovary and it was a cyst - nearly the size of a basketball! Was in hospital the next day to have it removed - very scary.

Hmmm, If I were you, I think I'd get it checked out before I proceeded with the program, just to be on the safe side.

Hello everone
Welcome to Peaches. I have been on the program for 25 days now and have lost 8.4 kg so far with lots more to go. I have a wedding to go to this afternoon so am wondering how I will deal with that, try to guess weights and not overindulge, but I will have to have a sip of champagne for the toast. How do we seperate our diet from social expectations such as this?
RJM have a great trip with your family.
Ros, I hope your mass is nothing serious, but I agree with Mel that you should have it diagnosed before you think about dieting.
Just a thought on water, you can drink TOO much water, even thought this is not common, but it can put stress on your kidneys and leach out minerals, so the amount of 2-3 litres recomened by Cohens is about right for us losing weight.
I dont know what UECR stands for but I work at a medical clinic so can find out next week, I hope.
Keep up the good work everyone
Barbara

Good Morning Everyone,

Welcome Ros & Peaches :)

LINDA717 - I'd also stick with the crisbreads you know are on the program even if they do taste like cardboard! On the aussie version we are allowed rice cakes and Ryvitas. They might be another option for you if you can't access the Paradise Lites crisbreads. Hopefully your email support will be good.

MEL - As far as I know UECR is a basic kidney function test. I asked the last time I had my blood test, but there may be a more technical term I am not aware of. I bet you are having a great time with your sister. I just laughed at your post of parading around in your 'fat' clothes. I don't have any sisters I can do this with and I think my friends would think I was totally nuts! (Family think your nuts anyway so it doesn't count!)

RJM – I am so jealous. I love Scotland. What a lovely surprise for you and your family.

ROS – I don’t think there is any harm to eliminating any of the bad things from your diet like we had too before starting the diet i.e bread, pasta, caffeine….but I would not embark on a ‘diet’ until you have been checked over by a doctor. I hope it all goes well for you.

NEARLYTHERE40 – Refocus, today is a new day. Don’t look back. You will be soon on your way to a ‘new’ you. Look at what has been your downfall and try to adjust. Are you taking a vitamin supplement to help with cravings etc? It might also help if you plan some of your meals and have some of the ingredients ready in advance. Take a look at the Cohen’s website, it has some really good recipes on it from people who have completed the program.

PDF – If you email JOYSEY, I am sure she would be happy to send you the picture of the tea we are all talking about (just don’t drink it the night before you have a 9.30am appointment at the hairdressers like I did!!!)

JOYSEY – I was bad last week and made myself drink some of ‘joyseys tea’ as punishment. Oh My God. When I mention drinking tea at my house now, there are groans from everyone. My other half isn’t game to have a cup!

KAYSEYSMUM – You will be at your goal weight before you know it – just keep up your great attitude!

I spoke to my consultant last week and mentioned that I have been craving since I stopped Cenrum. Although she did mention the clinic vitamins, she said that the Blackmores Womens Multivitamins were a great choice. I went into Priceline and they had a promotion on a box of the multivitamin, calcium, evening primose oil and bath salts for $20.00. That should be even less this week as Priceline has 15% off Blackmores. That is for a 28 day supply. I hadn’t been taking any oil supplement and my consultant said that because I don’t eat fish it was crucial for me to do so. This helps with skin elasticity.

I was also told not to drink too much water as this depletes essential minerals from the body. Lots of confusion on this one and very much an individual thing I guess.

Anyway, ladies that’s it for now, much longer post than I intended.

Have a great day, keep up the great work.

Scales Scales Scales

DAMN SCALES!

After reading a bit of chit-chat about people scales and food scales, I thought it was time to update the ones we have in the bathroom, I mean I knew they gave me a different reading that the ones at my Dr's and the ones at the clinic, but they always went down in the same intervals or so I thought!!! Well damn it yesterday if I didn't go out to make the best of the last day of the stoketake sales and bought a top of the range pair of digitals, theres scales do EVERYTHING, body fat, body water ( we didn't bother opting for the bone mass, body images measureing scales at a lofty $300!!!). So we get home, Cryss plugs in her details and on she hops!

121.3kg!! what evil lurked in my old scales!!! so gals I'm back above the 120 mark as at tomorrow, gone are my dreams of 10kg in a month, but I'm gonna try!

Anyway at least I feel a little more confidant in the results they advertise than my old 'blinkers', the scales that blinked your results before shutting down!

now for some support!

Linda717, I certainly hope that you didn't think I was trying to give you the brush off with your cracker question, we will all go to any length to support you, any questions you have throw em here and we can see what we can do.
Now the imfamous Wasa Wafer, looks like what we call Ryvita here in Australia, they are a swedish crispbread. I went to their web site and the only non european country they are sold in is the states.

Now compared to a Ryvita and the Paradise lites we all seem to eat mostly it looks like this (see attchment). They seem similar except for the paradise lites which appear to weigh more and are higher in carbs and sodium (but this would go hand in had with it weighing more). Click on the attachment for a larger view :)

Hope this helps, I'm off to do house work!!! will be back on later, I'm idle in the chat room if anyone gets on.

Cryss,
I had a similiar problem with my scales. My old ones are far kinder then the new ones my mum bought me for christmas.
I weigh myself on both and keep a record, but I will go by my old ones until I start the refeed.
My old scales weigh me at 61 today, my new ones weigh me at 64.4. I know it can be tough, but remember at the end of the day,,,,you have lost weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't stay at chat, my 2 year old is getting restless. Could get ugly :D

Thanks for the welcome back, everyone. Mel, I remember that I did find that site last month and saw the Bundall address, but no face or management name, so I wondered whether it was just an "address"

The docs haven't said what its origin is and didn't seem sure if it was bowel, ovarian or tubal. Just says might or might not be ovarian in nature and that it is abutting the left uterine fundus near my fallopian tube. It might have been purely coincidence that they found it and it may not have been the cause of my infection in the first place. But while they ran all sorts of tests that day, I threw up the barium drink in the middle of the CT scan, and bounced around the bed in agony during the internal ultrasound - having a baby was less painful than the thing they were sticking in me, so I guess they got frustrated with me and didn't push beyond treating with antibiotics which worked enough to check me out.

The night before I left the hospital the travel insurance told us that my PID is considered to be a pre-existing condition (I had it nine years ago and I've had no further problems since 1997 and had a baby in 2002). The day I left the hospital I was sobbing because I wondered how I was going to leave this place and say thank you to the really wonderful doctors and nurses who helped me knowing that I might not be able to pay the $20k it would likely cost! We'll fight it anyway and I don't think they stand much chance of getting away with not paying it.

I got home late Wednesday night, so got the blood test done yesterday and will book another ultrasound tomorrow to see what has happened with it.

Mel..........a basketball??? And you didn't know? Thats gotta hurt. Do they blow up that fast? Wouldn't you have looked kind of imbalanced? With my feet, I would have just fallen over sideways LOL

Myshy, yeah, I think I will wait till I find out for sure, but you're right, I could be eliminating a few things from my diet - though I was getting pretty good before I went away. Caffeine is going to be THE hardest thing for me to give up - and while I don't have more than 1/8th teaspoon of sugar - all my weight gain seemed to start when I took up coffee!

Thanks for all your help, guys - and for the kind thoughts. I guess I should admit I AM concerned about this "mass", (is that some PC word for tumor?) but to most of the world I act pretty flippantly and just tell them I have to have my alien removed. :D

Hehe maybe I should be grateful that it's not the size of a basketball. A basketball??? Now that would freak me out.

I really do want to start this thing, and I'd love to come back here and get spurred along by everyone's motivation. Hope to talk to you all again soon.

Ros,

Yes the cyst was huge & it was just unknown to me at the time. My whole body had gradually got bigger over a year or so, especially my stomach. Doctors thought I was pregnant! I was young & oblivious to it, until I finally faced up to it :( I was 18yrs old & I must of been at least 140kg + easily back then. I was diganosed with PCOS - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

Attached is a pic of me in the hospital bed after I was operated on. I had a C-section cut, from one side of me to the other, which was a wider cut that a Cesarean. Took me a good 3 months before I could properly walk again...horrible time of my life! :(

I've come ALONG WAY since back then! - see 3rd pic attached - me trying on one of my bigger suit jackets (size 22-24) I use to wear before starting Cohens, I've pulled it out at the front to show how much extra space there is...... down to a size 18 currently, can't wait to shrink further!

Hello everyone,

Peaches and Ros welcome and good luck with the program.

Ros, all the best with your tests. My daughter at 22 had a urachial cyst which was 11cm in diameter and attached to the lining of her tummy. There was talk it could be attached to her bladder (thankfully, it wasnt). She needed surgery to remove it and the Dr said it may grow again, they're not sure. Maybe your cyst could have the same history of regrowing so it wouldn't really be a pre-existing condition. Keep fighting them!!!

Mel: I feel so sorry for what you have gone through and being so young. You look like another person and you have really come along so much. :) You are doing so well.

Cryss: My new scales also show 2kg increase. I am going into the clinic this week to compare these scales with the clinic's. My old scales always were 2 kg less than the clinic's but unfortunately they also show this increase. At least they are conistent. But I feel I am getting back on track the last 2 days and that's good for me.

Talk to you all soon and have a good week.

Cathy

Hehehe, that was cute!

Yes, Mel - you ARE skinny!!! And you were only 18 when you had this cyst? I guess I can get over feeling like my problems are age catching up, then. (I'm 39, for every minute of another week) :D

And Rajah's family, too? It's interesting when you get talking to people how common it must be. I guess I shouldn't worry so much then.

Talking about scales, we have a new Aldi's supermarket opened up here and they have a set of digital scales on special for $29.99. I might go look into it. My son must have been using our old scales to climb up onto the bathroom counter or for jumping on so I had to throw them out last month. Most of the time I'm in such denial that I won't get on them anyway. And the scales at the Dr's surgery are NOT user friendly.

Hi
Just a quick one, just returned from the wedding which was beautiful, but ate a few things I should not have.
Mel, is the UECR a spelling mistake, should it be UREA. I had a look at my blood tests for the next months and mine only has urea not UECR?
everyone is dong so well, photos are fantastic, scales are so different, but if you weigh yourself on the same ones at least you know you are going down.
night night
Barbara

Cryss

thank you:) , no I didn't think anyone was brushing me off . . .I'm just anxious and want to do the right thing. The Cohen help responded to me and said that it wasn't based on calories . . .and I got a response back from my e-mail support and they mentioned the RyVita as well and also that in the US the saltine crackers by Nabisco. This kinda surprised me, but if that's what is being used, I'll check it out. However, I have lost 3 lbs in 3 days, so that's a good start . . .I don't seem to be hungry and I even had to eat out last night. I chose steamed shrimp and a salad with vinegar . . .it worked out. So good luck to you and anyone else out there with their struggles . . .it can only get better . . .right?:D

Anyway Guy's Won't Push The Water Thing Anymore................ Everyone To Them Selves....

Good Morning Everyone,
Well I just can't figure out my scales anymore. I am weighing 61.5 on my old ones and still 64.4 on my new ones. I am thinking I might take the newer ones back to the store and get them changed.

I am trying to be extra good at the moment as I have been stuck on my weight now for weeks. I am so close to the end, but it seems out of my reach. My consultant didn't want me to start my refeed until I start getting hungry, but who knows when that will be. I eat more out of boredom than hunger.:(

I can't believe how many ladies in this small group have had cysts taken out. It really must be more common than we think. A kindly reminder to us though to keep on top of our health and get any change checked out. I think women are the worst for that, we are too busy working, raising families etc and put ourselves last.

Moni - the day my bikini line slows down some of its growth I'll be swinging from the rafters!:D

I think that the water thing is very much an individual thing and may be based on the amount we have to lose. Who really knows. It may be also based on what each of our consultants went through! I am a huge believer in the water for getting rid of the toxins and hydrating the skin. My skin doesn't look as dry anymore and I don't have restless leg syndrome at night anymore. That alone will keep me drinking my quota!

I have noticed that I am taking some cramps in my legs the last few days. I don't use salt in anything, so I am thinking this might be the reason.

Re: blood test - Mine is listed as UEC, but I think they all mean the same thing (at least I hope so!)

Start of a new week ladies, hopefully a good week for all of us :)

Myshy

Moni:I wasnt doubting your water theory if it works for you and you are losing 3kg a week great stuff and if your clinic has advised you to drink more thats good, i think we've had a bit of conflicting advice cos in my program it says minimum of 2litres maximum 3 litres so maybe if cohens help is lurking he could answer that one for us. Congrats losing your 30kg thats great stuff and did you enjoy your coffee, it could of been worse if it was me it would of been chocolate.
Well I thought Joysey's tea wasnt working for me so I had another cup this morning i was shopping at the mall and wooofa I got cramping pains and miss defiant 2 was not cooperating so I quickly walked more like ran to the car packed us in and sped home only to come to road works cars piled a mile long quickly i did a uturn took a detour and sped through the suburbs got home luckily no damage done but gee im not gonna do that again ha ha.
Hello Pippa hope you are still going strong, noticed in Myer today too they had food scales 30% off nice digital ones too. I am finding everyone that has bought new scales are saying they liked the old ones better he he my sister said the same thing to me i think hers were 3kg out, I think we are all doing tremendously well we've got past xmas and the new year is here for us to make the most of, also summer is the easiest time to hook into this diet I found the winter time a bit challenging trying to drink my water in minus degree weather. Better go talk soon Chez

Im Back!!!

Hi All

It has been absolute ages since I have posted.

Firstly, Thankyou to Kaseysmum who stepped in and took over the secret gift for me and I am sorry that I couldn't continue with it but things just kinda fell apart in my house. I know that it is not as bad as others on the board and I don't want to take away from their personal struggles.

I have started to read through the posts since I last posted but it is going to take me days but congratulations to all for your weight loss. I have totally fallen off the wagon over the last couple of weeks that I am too scared to get back on the scales and I need to have a blood test this week but that scares me as well.

I will not get back on the scales until I have had a week's worth of not breaking. it is the the cravings that I am finding hard to beat. If I could just go a day without breaking I know that I will be able to make it but I am such a loser that I cannot do that. My father is on his refeed and I didn't think he would be able to stick to it. He has really put me to shame.

But this is a new week and I am determined to be good and stick to it.

Just a question, what happens if you fall pregnant while on this program? I know sureslime has a deal but what about Dr Cohen's? Can you stay on it? My periods are 4 days late and I am worried that I may be pregnant again. Does anyone know?

I will slowly catch up on all the posts.

Mel, is there any advancement on setting up our own website. I just need to know if you are going to do it or not because I have a very close friend who will host it for me if you don't want to do it.

What I am planning for the website is something similar to this one but with a chat program attached. It will have a thread for receipies, a thread for stress out days etc... so it will be much easier to keep up to date with threads.

How do people feel about this?

God it feels so good to be back. I am sorry that it has taken me so long.

Canberra people.. Are you ready to kick me up the butt and get me back on track??? I am now 3 children less so days are a bit easier for me now.

I look forward to catching up on all the posts. I hope you all survived christmas alot better then I did. I am really ashamed of myself...

MONI - I am going to start letting you know of a daily weight measurement starting tomorrow as we were doing before I went AWOL.

Love to all

Kim
