Thanks for the welcome.. I am reading all the posts now.. I have been an internet chatter for about 6 years now and I have always hated lurkers. The ones that are there in the back ground reading to get "dirt" on you. Not the ones that are too nervous to post. They are cool. Just the ones that are there to cause trouble.

Tim - This is a site for people on the program wanting support for other people on the program. If we wanted the consultants advice, we know your number. Please leave us alone. You said you and your consultants work very hard and don't have time to sit around idly... Well go and call someone.. it could be just what they need at the time to not break.. Both times my consultant has called me, she hung up on me...

I have my dad here this week.. How does next week sound?? Say tuesday? I look forward to catching up.

do you know when the tumbling tots start up at Erindale? I am really keen for Lachlie to get into it.

Welcome back Kim!

I would be a little worried about staying on the program if you think you are pregnant. You are not getting enough of anything to sustain yourself and a bub if there is one. You can get pregnancy tests now that are accurate if you are even a day late. I'd get one of those before deciding your next move. As far as I know Cohens don't let you do the program if you are pregnant, but I may be wrong.Maybe one of the other ladies will know for sure. It did come up at my initial presentation beacause I was the only lady there of child bearing age, but I really didn't listen!

How much weight did your dad lose on the program?

Don't worry too much about breaking. In a perfect world we wouldn't have put on weight in the first place! The world isn't perfect, so take it day as it comes and the best of luck.

Hi everyone
I had a reply from Cohens re blood test
"UECR is a pathology term for Urea, Electrolytes and Creatinine. This is commonly referred to as a Kidney Function Test. Again, these questions are best addressed directly to your consultant or clinic."
I guess that is a reminder that the consultants at Cohens are happy to give us information if we ask them.

Barbara,

didn't you ask the clinic? isn't it a clinic reply? not sure why they would emphasise that we ask them "again" when thats what you did ..

Hi everyone,

I went and had a blood test and my form also says for UECR. I asked the lady doing the blood test what it's for and she said it checks urea and creatine. It checks that the human growth hormone is doing what it's supposed to and also checks kidney function. I think they keep an eye on our kidneys with all the water that is recommended to drink just in case minerals and other components are flushed out and you get below the recommended level. My theory. :)

I also went to the clinic to find out what damage I have done myself over Christmas and I have put on 2kg since my last visit in November. I can feel it. My new scales are comparable to Cohen's but are about 2-3 kg out from my old scales. Now I will always use my new ones to keep me on the straight and narrow. :D

Kim, great to see you back. :) You should find out if you are pregnant, and then ring Lorraine at the clinic and ask to put program on hold. I'm sure you are not the only person that this would happen to and they would have to take it into consideration. As Myshy said you wouldn't be getting enough nutrients for yourself or baby and don't forget you also have a family to look after and don't want to be getting run down. Yes, how much did your dad lose and how long has been on the program? Must be great to compare notes. Be brave and get on those scales, you may get a surprise and not have gone off track as you think. ;)

To everyone, all the best for great weightloss.

Intro

Hi everyone

Well, Rajah (my big sis) has been positively raving about the wonderful support all you great people are giving her. Lord knows, I need help too. I went with Rajah today for a weigh-in and managed to lose 200g since November. Oh well, today's another day, and indeed a new year has begun.

I live at home with Mum and Dad, who are both good Italian cooks, so the current holiday period has been a little tough. I'm actually looking forward to going back to work later this week for some structure into the eating program.

I've been reading about your experiences and take my hat off to you all.

Thanks for the opportunity to learn and share ideas with you all.

SOS aka H-E-L-P

Little sis

Hi SOS,

Welcome aboard. :) You are in the right place and you will see the wonderful support and inspiration from all these lovely ladies here. Altogether we will steam ahead and be shrinking to our goals. :D

Good luck with the program and hope to see less of you next time I see you.

Love, Cathy xxx

Hi SOS,
Welcome aboard!!

God I'd kill for some italian food right now :) Some lasagne, garlic bread and a red wine would be my choice.

I think its great that you and Rajah are doing the program together. You will be a great support for each other. I don't have any sisters, just three older brothers, who aren't really into dieting, makeup, clothes etc :)

Do you have much weight to lose?

I had the most beautiful dinner tonight girls - chicken & asparagus soup. It was really yummy and so easy to make. I'll post the recipe if anyone is interested.

Nearlythere40kg - glad to hear it's going well so far :) You realise you are going to have to change your name once you start dropping a few kilos :)

Rajah - I am still sticking with my old scales. I think I am in denial and want the lower weight. I feel as though I've been stuck on this weight forever.

Late start for me today and have only just managed to finish my 2nd litre of water for the day. Going to be another night of me up peeing :( oh well, gotta be done!

The Wagon, falling off and how and when to get back on

Hey girls,

Well it looks like that damn wagon has been bucking people off left right a centre, it has run a few of us over as well!

There are however a few crucial points to remember here.

We are NOT machines, if we were, we could easily program in required fuel intake per day, push the button and off we would go! Unfortunately we are not machines, and we operate comepletely differently, we have external motivators and demotivators that will test us every step of the way, the clue here is to first understand these motivators/demotivators. Once you understand the why you are in a far greater position to control any urges or cravings.

For example: when I first started Cohen, I would feel so hungry at night, I mean insane hungry, I tried to drink more water, but just felt bloated, spoke to my consultant at the clinic and we changed vitamins as she thought maybe the ones I was using maybe had too much Vitamin B and that was making me hungry, nothing really helped. So I sat down and looked at what I was feeling and when. For nearly 20 yrs I have worked or socialised at night, in the early days through uni it was bar work, restaurants, cafes etc after that I worked in a studio which kept me going until 3-4-5am in the morning, this whole time I either ate my three meals a day or four, the last meal however was always after 9pm, it could have just bveen a slice of pizza or some cheese and crackers, or chips or whatever, but I have eaten something after 9pm for the past 20 yrs! And you know what? I wasn't hungry, I was breaking a habit! now I know what I'm feeling and why, those late night hunger pangs have gone, I still feel a bit empty, but I know why and I manage that.

Girls, this isn't easy for any of us, we are surrounded by all these external factors that either try to keep us the way we have always been, because it's easy and safe, try to drastically change us without the right preparation, add on top of that our own hidden deamons, and if you were looking from the outside in, you would say some of us had no chance. We need to recognise these things that effect us, understand them, break them down till we know them inside out and then either manage them or discard them.

Everyday is a new day, and just because you have been one way for the last day, week, month or last 20 years, does NOT mean that that is the way you will be today! You are in control, no matter how you look at it, as an old boss used to say to me "Cryss, you are the master of your own destiny" I used to hate that, now I love it, because I am in control of everything my body does, what it eat's, what it drinks, when it moves, when it sleeps I have the power to make it what I want it to be, I have the power to make it what it should be!

Girls thanks for reading if you got this far, these are lessons I have learnt through life, to understand is to conquer!

Now everyone, get back on your wagon cos we are moving out to Slimsville!

Have a great day!

and just a little something, the new scales reported a loss for today, which I'm very happy about, they were 100% accurate twice!

Hi Myshy,

please do print your soup recipe . . .I'm new and need all the ideas you gals can share with me.

Linda

Cryss

Has anyone told you that you are the best. How do you think up so motivational stuff...

Ok I did it.. I got on the scales today .. I weigh 95.6 kgs, so basically I haven't lost anything for the past 2 months. What a waste of money and time!!

I need to remember that every time I put something in my mouth that I shouldn't have I am being extremely selfish.

I am going out today and I am going to buy some of those sugar balance tablets to help with the cravings. I broke again yesterday... Those damn carb cravings..

I did a pregnancy test yesterday but it was negative but still no show of those damn periods... I will leave it another week until I redo the test.

Ok everyone.. We are all climbing on that wagon and going for a hayride.... We can sing and dance and have as much fun as we want because we know that along the way, we will be leaving behind our fat which the birds and ants and grubs will come and eat so there will not be trail left behind for us to find our way back up that horrible road of obesity! So to the birds and ants and flies and grubs..
HERE IS MY FAT, YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL..
I HOPE YOU GET FAT EATING LIKE I DID!!!!!

Chicken & Asparagus Soup

Hi Everyone,

Here is the recipe for the chicken & asparagus soup.

300ml water or water from tin of asparagus
Asparagus - fresh (pre cooked) or tinned
Onion (allowance)
Chicken (allowance)
Parsley (allowance)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Curry powder (optional)

Chop chicken finely and cook in some water for about 10 mins. Dice onion and parsley. Combine all vegetables, including asparagus (bite sized pieces) and add to the cooked chicken. Add a small dash of curry powder if desired. Add as much water as desired for the consistency you like. Stir and cook for a further 20 mins.

I then run my bamix through it roughly and add my salt & pepper. Lovely served with some crisbreads.

(I also used tinned asparagus which has been cut into bite sized pieces).

The recipe is great because you can add as much water as you want so that you have a 'bigger' meal, without increasing the amount of ingrediants.

Enjoy :D

Linda717 - some of the girls here have come up with some lovely recipes and I'm sure will be happy to share them with you. If you are struggling for some ideas take at look at where you will find some great recipes.

Healthymum - You may not have lost any weight in the past two months, but you didn't pack any on either. The past few weeks will be irrelevant once you are back on track. Look ahead to your wedding anniversary, its a great goal to look forward too :)
How old are you kids? If you are pregnant what sort of a gap would you have between them? I had 15 months between my first two - talk about busy! but it's great now that they are older.

Reporting in

Hi guys
Just went to first visit to clinic since starting... got measured and weighed, I have lost 11cm and 4.95kg in about two weeks. I'm pretty happy with this.... Just wanted to report that my consultant was pretty cool, asked if I had any questions and told me some of her experiences and recipes she tried while on the program, also suggested drinking sugar free soft drink to quell sugar cravings..... I know this is in the book, but I hadn't been doing it, so will start from now.... - is this something you've tried healthymum?

Also myshy will try your soup, I've been making a chicken soup with tomatoes but will try asparagus next time....

Cryss thanks for the motivation!! I agree with you, I have found myself wanting to snack at similar times each day, and after a lot of though have realised it's more to do with other issues than feeling hungry...

Each day is a new opportunity to take a step towards our goals.... and some times we slip - I look at it as part of the journey, if i'm able to pick up and carry on with my plans that it's not so bad.... I have slipped occasionally - the smell of lattes! - yum, but I'm not belting myself up... If I think of the latte as a bad thing, then compare to all the bad things i used to have in a day... well I'm still making progress towards my goal, of being a healthy weight, with a healthy perception of nutrition and portion control....

Well there is my sermon for the day…. Hang in there the results will be worth it…

Hi all,

Cryss you are so right with your quote, we are our own master of destiny. We are the ones who choose what we eat, when etc. Every day is a new day and we should treat it as special and make the right choices. If we stuffed up yesterday, put it behind and move forward. :) Youare very creative and now a psychologist!! Good work.

Danpoll: don't beat yourself up about your weight gain. You have lost before and you will again. Leave it behind and think forward. You will make it up quickly.

PDF: Congratulations on your weightloss. It moves quickly and inspires to keep going. You will reach your goal.

Healthymum: Good move, it wasn't as bad as you thought. Lets all move forward together and soldier on. Perhaps your hormones and emotions are a little out of whack seeing you just have gone through a difficult time. I hope it turns out with whatever you wish. :)

I think I'm getting addicted to this forum and at work I don't have access to the internet and I'll have to wait till night time to read all your motivational writings. :(

Talk to you soon

AGGHH, comming home tonight to read cryss's motivational post that i just eyed a moment ago.

Hi everyone

Hope you're all having a good day and are keeping on track with those carbs.

Myshy - thanks for your warm welcome. I have 32 kilos to lose - and that's looking at the heavier side of my suggested weight range. I'm only 4'11'', so don't carry my weight very well at all. I am aiming to lose 4kg before my next weigh-in on 6 February. Having read everyone's stories, I should be able to do this if I stick to the program. I would love your soup recipe - soup is one thing I haven't tried, so would be good for something different.

Go girlfriends !!!!!!! ;)

hi, all
wow, some really motivational stuff going on here at the moment!!! i just had two days off and didn't do too well with the whole eating/diet thing.. but today has been great. and its nearly dinner time so i'm gonna go home and eat it. my water intake is good, i've noticed that i want water at different times... like it was in the morning but now i've noticed i can't drink it in the morning and its night drinking for me! and i dont find myself racing to the toilet like i used to which is good. (even at night)
anyway, going good today. let's take it one day at a time! gonna get back on track woo hoo!!!
