sjm1027: I looked for you on sparkpeople. I cant find you. Can you look for me? LittleBitNorth. Friend me? I am new..probably not doing it right. lol

Hey...

Hey Everyone.

I've posted on this site before, but since I'm seeing a whole lot new faces, I just wanted to say HI!

Here's a little background on me. I started out at 250 lbs and in November my Mother and I joined Jenny Craig. I joined because she wanted to join but afraid to do it by herself. I was trying to do it on my own, but for some reason I was unsuccessful. Since then, just by eating their meals, I've lost 30 pounds. However, I barely realized this month that just eating better only helps to a point.

So now I've been exercising. I've been jogging on the treadmill 2 miles a day for the last 2 weeks. It takes me 30 minutes to do because I'm just starting and I have the intervals set at 3.0 and 5.0 mph, but I kinda enjoy it, especially with some kick @$$ rock music playing. However, I have a question about protein shakes.

The guy I work with told me that since I'm working out like every day that I should go to HiHealth and get me Whey Protein Powder so that either before or after I work out I can have shake. He said that it will help my muscles repair after working out as well as protect me from losing muscle mass instead of fat. However, I don't want to get bulky, I want to be lean and lost the rest of my fat. Or is that just a misconception about protein powder... that it makes you bulky?

Thanks,

Veronica (You'll probably start seeing me on here some more. Have a nice day)

Hi Veronica!!

I dont know if you remember me. I am Natalie jo. I couldn't get into my account, because I forgot the password, but its nice to see someone familiar. Nice to see you have lost thirty pounds, way to go!!
I hope by the end of summer to reach 260 myself. Right now I am at 280, yes, I gained, but I am going to start exercising more again.

Nice to see you.

and hello to everyone else!!

Natsky:seeya:

I'm so happy :). I weighed myself this morning and I'm down too 249.4!! woot woot. I am more then half way there with my weight loss! Now I just have too keep up with it!

Good Luck everyone!

Hi everyone. Congrats on all the success!

I started out at 377 last fall and am now down to 258. I'm really excited about getting to 249 and even more excited to get below the 200 pound mark! As you can guess from my name, I belong to my local YMCA and have dedicated myself to a complete overhaul in my lifestyle, which included quitting smoking.

Many of the posts here and in the 300 club thread are inspirational to me. So thanks a lot, and I look forward to exchanging tips and ideas on fitness and weight loss :)

Hi Everyone =)
You are all doing amazing!!! I am almost outta here and I wanted to say even though I just joined this group a bit over a month ago (I think..hmm) that you have all helped so much with your posts and ideas.
I just wanted to say to Veronandez86, I have been down the protien shake road. I've been on this weightloss road a long time. I've read and tried almost everything. One bit of advice I would give to anyone asking is to look at the calories in those protien shakes. Most of them are very high. I have read up on this a little and the best thing I have heard is have a glass of milk when your done with your work-out. Read up on that and see what you think. It has a lot more or the same benefits as a protien shake but less calories. If your like me...I want to enjoy every single calorie in every bite and I want to save them for the good stuff!! Not some powdered milk concoction with some artificial flavours and who knows what else they put in that stuff.
I think it was Prevention magazine where I first read about the "Glass of milk after a work out." Check it out and weigh your options.
I think your doing great!! Kudo's!

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about the calories that I would be drinking up if I had a protein shake. But I will definitely try the glass of milk after working out.

Natsky,
Yeah, I remember you. How've you been? Good Luck with your goal! I'm rooting for you.

Anyway, I'm thinking that I will be incorporating at least 3 days of strength training this week. Went to sparkpeople.com and had them generate a program for me. oh, i totally like that site. It helps me stay on track with my workout programs.

Ooo... I'm finally eating right, doing cardio 5 days a week, and going to strength training 3 times a week. I think the fitness bug bit me hard this time.

Its true. the protein shakes I make are around 250 calories a shake.

I use optimum whey vanilla ice cream, and mix in strawberries for flavor. I like it because its low carb and low fat. I'd rather spend my carbs and fat on stuff like waffles and peanut butter :)

But... If used properly some shake mix is an excellent tool.

If you count your calories, and closely monitor your intake they aren't an issue. You just budget for them accordingly. But its a nice way to get some high quality protein in your system in a pinch. Milk is great, I'll just take a few swigs if i don't feel like using the blender. But adding the whey mix pumps up the protein to carb/fat ratio.

So I just think of it as a milk booster, adding more protein to give it a better protein ratio.

But there is calorie loaded crap out there thats usually cheaper and tastes like ass. I love my ON cuz i can mix in Peanut butter or fruit

I got back up to 226 but am down to 217.8 as of this morning and I have no intention of stopping. GOTTA GET BELOW 200! Can't wait to buy new jeans.

Hi!

I just busted down into this class.

I'm out of the 300 club and I'm never, ever going back.

My stay here, however, is going to be a long one, so get used to me.

Veronica we continue to stay about the same haha. I'm at 217.4 as of this morning and after I head to the gym tonight I will hopefully weight in out of the 17's tomorrow. Glad you found something that works for you!

Natalie its nice to see you back as well I was begining to wonder where everyone disappeared to!

cameraobscura,

Yeah, I just noticed that too. We started around the same time, at the same weight, and now we are still pretty close in numbers. At least we are both seeing progress and not still in the 240's. :)

Well, have a good gym session... it's bout time for me to work out, or I'll get yelled at by my boyfriend. Heck, I think I wouldn't workout half as much if wasn't here pushing me to workout.

Good Luck Everyone

Veronica

Cord Awesome! Welcome, you sound like fun. Maybe I should eat some cake and stay a little longer :lurk5: hehe
And RJ..you made me laugh and its soooo true.

Well.. I hope sometime in the next however the freaking long its gonna take.. I get outta here.
I miss my hydroxycut...waaa

Wow, I was just looking at my weight loss numbers and my little weight loss tracker under my user name and realized something. I'm so close to being at the halfway mark towards my goal weight. Once I get to 212 I will be halfway there. I can so do this.

It's funny how the little things can help motivate you a bit more. I was down a few minutes ago because weight loss is a long process, until I realized how close I actually am to making my goal weight a reality.

Good Luck Everyone! Be proud of the little accomplishments!

Veronica

Well done, Veronica! You'll hit that half way mark before you know it. I hit mine last week and it was such an amazing feeling of accomplishment! Today is my weigh day and I'm down 4 more pounds. I love looking at my ticker now and seeing that I'm now closer to end than I am to the beginning.

Veronica, Way to go! That has to be an amazing feeling and you know you can do it! I can't wait to hit that point.

well I hope I'm not jumping the gun here but I think I can say goodbye. Good luck everyone!

Only 13 more pounds until I reach my goal. Then comes building muscle.

These last 20lbs are so damn hard to lose. I have only been losing 1-2 lbs a week for the last month or so.

So as of right now I am 6'5" and 243lbs and still 100% SEXY. lol

Hi Everyone!! I'm brand new here (just joined today) and I'd love to join!
