Mine will probably be more savoury and alcoholic - I'm in line to make some gingerbread houses with some children (I think that'll be on your free weekend!) and that in-your-face sugar overload really turns me off sweets! Also, I'm too far away from family to be having Christmas with anyone outside of just us this year - used up my travel budget visiting during the year! So I think in terms of sweet things I'll only be looking at Christmas pudding (and
some gingerbread, but not the decorated kind!)
So that means the catering's going to be pretty much up to me - my problem will be as usual my own simple greed. There will be special treat food, that I wouldn't normally make - something rich, with
lots of taste. like maybe a mushroom gougere? Or some kind of really special spanokopita? Whatever it is (and I'd better get thinking, I guess) it'll be as delicious as I can make it, because when it's a just-the-two-of-you Christmas, it's important to make it special, to not be missing the family aspect. And given that, I'll be eating up! If I buy special cheese I'll find that very hard to resist, too.
Alcohol will be in it as well - we're pretty abstemious, generally, but for me, a bottle (or two!) marks a day out as special. I'd like there to be another bottle of bubbles, and I'd like a bottle of red wine, too; they don't have to be finished in the one hit!
Good for you, being designated driver at the work party - I love the sound of the concert night (are you in it?) and then family party.

Thanks for sparking all this thinking! My conclusion is that I'd better join you in the two-pound safety net tactic! Okay - that's a goal for this next week - two-pound safety net!
