Club 170s

What will be your biggest weakness Amy . Mine at that time of year is sweets and desserts . I have social activities starting from next weekend onwards . Have a day shopping with my friend next Sunday and we have a lunch booked . It will be an inclusive 3 course lunch. The following weekend is Xmas party from work . I will drive though so at least no alcohol temptation which fits with my promise not to drink . I think I have a free weekend then to put up the tree and decorations although might squeeze it in the previous weekend . Then I have the concert night with dinner and the family party the following weekend . Yikes .

Mine will probably be more savoury and alcoholic - I'm in line to make some gingerbread houses with some children (I think that'll be on your free weekend!) and that in-your-face sugar overload really turns me off sweets! Also, I'm too far away from family to be having Christmas with anyone outside of just us this year - used up my travel budget visiting during the year! So I think in terms of sweet things I'll only be looking at Christmas pudding (and some gingerbread, but not the decorated kind!)
So that means the catering's going to be pretty much up to me - my problem will be as usual my own simple greed. There will be special treat food, that I wouldn't normally make - something rich, with lots of taste. like maybe a mushroom gougere? Or some kind of really special spanokopita? Whatever it is (and I'd better get thinking, I guess) it'll be as delicious as I can make it, because when it's a just-the-two-of-you Christmas, it's important to make it special, to not be missing the family aspect. And given that, I'll be eating up! If I buy special cheese I'll find that very hard to resist, too. :(
Alcohol will be in it as well - we're pretty abstemious, generally, but for me, a bottle (or two!) marks a day out as special. I'd like there to be another bottle of bubbles, and I'd like a bottle of red wine, too; they don't have to be finished in the one hit!
Good for you, being designated driver at the work party - I love the sound of the concert night (are you in it?) and then family party.
****
Thanks for sparking all this thinking! My conclusion is that I'd better join you in the two-pound safety net tactic! Okay - that's a goal for this next week - two-pound safety net!

No thankfully I’m not in the concert . It’s a Christmas concert In the city .
You sound very organised in your head Amy too . I really need to focus now and keep my hands busy and my mouth closed ! Except for talking of course or eating my planned meals ! Lol

I'm not organised at all - I've got to think about, buy, pack up and post off all the Christmas parcels to family in four states - plus a couple overseas! I'm well behind! (I feel a twinge of panic.)
I thought the concert might have been a family concert - we used to do that at Christmas. :)
I'm really looking forward to getting the two-pound safety net in place - poached egg tomorrow - and broccoli for tea!

I’m still weaving a bit between 178/179 Amy . Harder than it seems to drop my safety net but so long as it doesn’t go up .
If I could reach 176 by Friday before Xmas that would be good .
I was listening to a guy on the radio today . He said he has given up alcohol this year and is dreading Xmas as he will be going out a lot .
I kind of feel that way about all the food .

Well, weaving between 178 and 179 is at any rate definitely into the 170s, which is a step further than this time two weeks back!
With two of us working at it, we ought to be able to get those safety nets in place by Christmas. I know you weigh weekly, at your SW club, but do you weigh at home, too? If so, I'd love to check in to compare how we're doing every two or three days.
What I'm dreading is the food at home, right in front of me. The food that's my own fault, like the biscuit recipes I'm very keen to try, or actual Christmas Day feasting.

Right now, I'm holding the line at 175, just! I did have a couple of meals of either plain broccoli or plain cauliflower, or both, but as of yesterday night (thanks to input from you and LaMa) I've pulled back from that, and added a bit of fetta, which is a lot more sane and like normal eating. I'm feeling pleased that I have been able have three actual meals a day without gaining - rather than skipping the night meal, which was a common weight-loss tactic for me before I got into this club. I don't want to do that to get the safety net - at this stage, I want to practise "normal" eating.

I don’t believe in skipping meals Amy as I would get very hangry !! Lol .
Yep I weigh most mornings as it’s keeping me on track . 179 this morning , grrrrrr . I do fluctuate a good bit and I know I have a bit of bloatness going on right now .

I’m very determined though to keep plugging away . Nervously approaching Xmas here . Coffee morning today I won’t be eating cakes . Out Saturday and Sunday but Sunday will definitely be a bit of a treat . I will consider doing some exercise now to counteract . Considering my exercise right now is non existent it should help if I start !!!

If it's the evening meal or if I'm out and about during the day I can manage, but if I'm at home and I try to miss lunch I don't have the will-power to not pick up a cracker or something - and then so much for skipping the meal! But yes, I'm glad to be back to "normal" eating, three meals a day.

Good for you re the coffee morning, and on plugging away generally! So am I, though so far I'm still still at the 175 figure - the aim for the safety net is 173. I haven't been to morning exercise since I got the burn - I was burnt in such places that I couldn't (still can't quite) put on a bra - and there's no way that I was exercising without! But I have done a little walking, and will do more today. :)

I'm glad Sunday will be a treat! We need treats in our lives! :hurray:

Definitely on the 178 now Amy and no veering here . Slow as a snail lol . Happy you are on 3 meals a day now . It does stop some of the silly snacking. Right I have a busy weekend ahead . Better get on with it now ! Enjoy yours x

Great, about you being so solidly, indisputably, in the 170s! And with the move to the safety net under way as well. :) Cheers for your busy weekend. Today I'm going to take a second bite at the Christmas list, but don't expect to finish it today, by a long chalk! Hope you're in the middle of a sweet, refreshing sleep!

I LOVE that fruity Christmas tree - it looks so colourful and alive! and if I possibly can, I'll make one - if I do, I'll post a picture. :D

And what a great and unexpectedly power-packed Fruit of the Month! Thank you! :) :) :) I love that it's good for the skin! just what I need - and boosting the immune system - it sounds so good. (I'm not sure what electolytes are, or what good they do, but it must be positive!). I will ransack the markets for one, and report back. (not today - today I'm just about to get parcel-packing!)

Picked up 3 melons tonight shopping and lots of clementines and apples .
I found shopping hard tonight . I was assaulted on every aisle with chocolates , sweets , snacks , fabulous cheeses and pickles , scrumptious desserts . Did I get any ? No . Did our normal healthy shop . Feel pleased but it is hard to say no to some of it .

Fantastic, re: resisting in the aisles - you're absolutely right that
it is hard to say no to some of it .
They have it down to a fine art, how to con us - the customers - into buying more than we want or need. :( But why should I put a glum face? - you triumphed! :hurray:

In my most recent supermarket shop, I did buy sweets, but it was to get ready for decorating a gingerbread house - they're all sitting untouched in the cupboard! I also spent quite a time planning how to tackle making the fruity Christmas tree - looking at the curly lettuce and wondering if it would do instead of kale, for example. (And I'll be going to the fruit market tomorrow, and will report back with the melon! :) )

I see Amy you are getting into the low 170s . Well done you . I think it’s great . What an achievement. And I’m following a wee bit behind you . I might start to investigate how to make the fruit tree myself now . I actually haven’t looked up what to use for the base . For my family get together I am thinking of actually melting some good chocolate and having it as a fondue for dessert but it’s just an idea . More for the little children ! Will have to get some really good fruit for it .

I'm thinking of using a pineapple to be the inner core - I don't much want to use polystyrene, and it'd be an extra chore to find one to buy. (Or maybe a butternut pumpkin, if I see one of the right shape?)
Yes, the lowish seventies - still well above 173. And you down to 177! :) We're both pretty good, and getting on track for a mild Christmas blowout! :santa:
I think a chocolate fondue would have cream as well as melted chocolate? How many little children will you have with you that day? I bet they won't be the only ones dipping their bits of pear and strawberries and honeydew melon in the fondue!

Amy my sister is now doing the dessert so I will be not doing the fruit tree till just after xmas . She is however making a fruit salad for her and I and some brownies for the kids and the big kids . I also have a Christmas pudding which husband bought at market . He is being very naughty !! Lol

...a Christmas pudding which husband bought at market . He is being very naughty !!
:rotflmao:
If we see a pudding which looks feasible we'll have one too! But fruit salad is one of the best desserts ever really - you can't beat a good fruit salad, not even with pavlova (which I am very fond of, and - shockingly enough - have never yet actually made one of).
I settled on a pumpkin to be the heart of our tree, and plan to take a series of photos so you can see it being made - right now it's just sitting up in a tape reel, to make it be upright. :)
I'll wait till tomorrow or the day after to weigh (there's been a couple of unavoidable social meals these last couple of days) but I think I'm still on track with the safety net - to get down to 173 by next Tuesday morning, I mean. I'm so glad you started us off on that!

Amy I think something like a pumpkin or squash is ideal . I have been very aware all weekend of how I have being eating and I think it’s paying off as I saw a flicker of a 176 this morning . If I could be a definite 176 by 25th I would be happy . Well I will be happy anyway ......
