Club 170s

I got so excited about your arrival that I forgot to reply to the rest of your post! :blush5:
Already today I have had blueberries , raspberries, strawberries and a kiwi.
Brilliant! I've only had a guava so far - and I'll be having an orange sometime before the day's out, plus experimenting with a recipe to use up the absolute last of the bananas from the bunch.
Yes, for sure you get to pick, so if you say it's kiwis, it is - I look forward to your announcement post!

Not quite an official member yet but I changed my scales to lbs so 180.6 at the moment . So a half lb away maybe . Hopefully by end of next week . I did say I would be happy to maintain on my diary as I have a busy week ahead but I think I can give a bit of a push to do that. It’s mind over matter .

wondering how many times i could switch clubs in a single day.

busy weekend ahead, so my borderline status will depend a lot on my upcoming diet on the road. ...always a bit more of a challenge.

...one reason i'd like to invest in a dehydrator some day.
Yes! Me too! For so many different fruit and veg.
Food on the road is a bit of a challenge - keep your fluids up is one thing - our bodies can trick us into thinking we're hungry when we're actually just dry. Maybe - is it a road trip with road-houses? - maybe make it a practice to have a long swig of water and wait ten minutes before you order anything? I know (my most recent road-trip was July) that if I tried to order in a hurry at a road-house the quickest, most obvious things were the least useful, nutritionally. Taking a pause to walk around, see what's there and to think out how to get something better was a useful tactic for me.

And your flying visits in and out of the 170s Club are always a bright spot for the members! You're always welcome, and we're always happy for you when you go! :D

Okay, I'll stuff the balloons into the big cupboard next to the bar (they're the kind that doesn't deflate) and they can all burst out gloriously when the numbers on the scale trip the automatic light and sound show for your official entry! :D Cheering for mind over matter! :hurray:

Amy I probably ate a little more than I should at weekend but pulled it back now . Aiming hard for the 170s . At least it’s something to aim for !!

And it's very close! :D

As for the weekend - me too! And since food and being social are inextricably linked (thank goodness! what a weird world it would be if they were kept rigidly separate) and being a part of family and friends is the way things are, this sort of "ate a little, pulled it back" dance is probably just part of how maintenance is going to be - so practising it now is not a bad thing! :)

Goodness! October has nearly finished, and I haven't redeemed my promise to write about what can be done with over-ripe bananas! I'd better hop to it, before I find it's November already.

Okay - the first and best answer would have to be dry them or make fruit leather - but that needs a dehydrator, and I haven't got one, as yet. So that brings me to the next obvious answer, which is: banana bread.

Important question: can this be made in a diety version?
Hhmmmm...

Answer: Yes, I think so!
I found a recipe on the internet (Greek Yogurt Banana Bread | running with spoons) which uses no butter and no oil, relying on Greek yoghurt (for what exactly? I don't know.). I've tried it out, using low-fat Greek yoghurt, and cutting out the suggested sugar and maple syrup completely. The loaf which resulted was quite sweet enough for me, but not sweet enough for my test-pilot, who suggested adding back in the quarter-cup of sugar.
Anyway, it came out at around 115 calories a slice, which I thought was fairly diety, anyway, and better than my usual recipe, which uses oil. I'll give it one more test-drive, and then post it on the Recipes thread, if I think it comes up to scratch.

And that's the last of October's Fruit of the Month!

It’s late in the month to make an announcement, but here it is… the Fruit of the Month for November is Oranges! And here’s why:
  • They carry so much history, so much romance! And yet, from the long-ago beginning in Asia, maybe “all the way from China”, they have spread right across the globe.
  • They are such a perfect globe in themselves – and they sit so neatly in the hand - who could resist them?
  • They are utterly characterful, not just passively letting themselves be eaten, like other fruit! No, no – this fruit fights back, spirting precious, fierce citrus oil when you peel it, and lying in wait to the last with bitter, bitter orange seeds for those who chomp unwarily.
  • And the colour! Especially if you have it in a fruit bowl where the sun can catch it. I would almost call it top fruit for that alone.
  • They’re tough! That rind means you can cart an orange around all day in the bottom of a backpack, and there won’t be a hint of bruise on it!
  • But there’s also nutrition of course. Vitamin C, a couple of B vitamins and potassium, a nice hit of fibre and a good dollop of in-house sugars, all wrapped up in thirst-quenching juiciness, for a modest 70-80 calories. Plus, the clincher -
  • We were recently given a huge bagful, and I’ve been eating at least one a day ever since. Time for today's! :)

This plaque donated to the Clubrooms by the wise member who said it in the first place: Petal! :)
Amy thanks for pointing me back here although I'm still just on the verge. And thanks for reminding me of my words and that's exactly how I want to live and I'll remember that now as I go forth into the next week. It's nice we are feeling happier in ourselves and seeing us being able to live around foods without it controlling us. Thanks Amy xx

Right I am hoping by my morning weigh ins it is now safe for me to officially come here. For 2 mornings I have been 179.75 so maybe officially coming in might give me the boot to stay there. It's been a struggle of up and downs to lose that weight. Never dreamed it would take so long. It's 4.5 years since I saw that weight and it was very short lived . This time I'm in a different place and I strive to stay there.

And the cupboard doors fly open, and the celebratory balloons burst out, and cheers resound!
:hurray::party::hurray::hurray::party::party::hurray::hurray::party::hurray:

Great to have you here, Petal! and yes, it was a long slog for us both to get here, and here's where we'll strive to stay! (I went ahead and opted for oranges as November's Fruit of the Month - but December's is over to you!)

Thanks Amy . Hopefully now I’m here to stay . Would like to drop another lb or 2 for safety net. I’m pretty focused at the moment . I plan and prep my food well .
yep I am eating oranges this month but mostly the little satsumas . They are lovely .
I will have a think on December fruits . Is there any rules to follow ? We have nothing in season here so all fruit is bought and imported

Good for you, with the planning and prepping - you'll have your safety net in no time!
I think the kind you call satsumas are the kind I call mandarins? And yes, they are lovely - a pleasure to peel, let alone to eat! :)
There's no rules, for Fruit of the Month - it doesn't have to be what's in season - you can make it one you've never eaten if you like, just to be exotic! :D Or whatever's Christmassy - which oranges are to me, so it's a pity I used them up in November! (We always used to get an orange and nuts at the bottom of our stockings on Christmas morning.)

We always had boxes of satsumas at this time of year. I ate about 3 of them yesterday . I do have a fruit in mind for December .
I'm going to make more soup today as I have not had any the last 2 days. But in one way it's good because it means I have to make different lunch things so one day it was a baked potato and yesterday crackers with tuna.

Now I'm torn between saying "I hope so" to see your friendly face in the clubrooms, and "I hope not!" so you don't get the extra poundage! ;)
But yeah, how to deal with the coming season is something that's on the Club agenda, for sure!
