Cate's Diary

We were using watercolours. I really did love it & think I'll find some more classes before I invest in anything. I don't think I have an artistic eye, but I loved the process. I really would like to learn to do dot paintings.
I have a friend who paints casually. The supplies can be pretty inexpensive to just play around a bit. If I could do art I would. My attempts always just result in frustration. Loving the process sounds perfect.

Yeah, you’re right Cate.

Hi, Liza & Em (& Llama, Vic & Tru).
I think I'll keep an eye out for more classes & try different things. It felt good going with M & I think I have always felt more comfortable trying out new things or going somewhere new when I go with someone else. I might check out adult ed classes. M doesn't want to try pottery, but I would like to have a go. It would be good to expand my friendship circle :ROFLMAO: It's more of a friendship squiggle.
I like walking around town & saying hello to lots of people & chatting with strangers as well as people I know. Our local town is good for that.
I still think we're better off staying where we are though, 11 km is not far, especially if I manage to fluke finding an inexpensive, reliable small car.
My weight is not moving downward at all. My willpower feels non-existent. I'm not eating junk but am having wine most nights. I do have an appointment with a nutritionist next week which should help me to refocus 🤞
BF this morning was overnight oats (raw muesli really with fruit, seeds & some nuts in it) with 1/2 a banana & a drizzle of honey.
Lunch will be a salad & dinner will be roast lamb with lots of veggies, followed by a small fruit platter.
I need to drink more water!

Yeah I would love to give pottery a go. I hope you go for it Cate!
And yes, classes such a great way to meet new people and get to know them in a stress-free way. Even if it doesn't lead to meeting outside of class it's a nice way to connect with the humans!

I sure can relate to that!!

Thanks, Llama & Liza. I had a good day yesterday & did so much house cleaning, gardening, dog walking & neighbour chatting & also reading. I drank lots of herbal tea & water. :)

Thanks, Llama. Have had another really active, well-hydrated day & maybe have overdone it. I will find out tomorrow. I felt out of sorts today & worked it off in the garden. I have the beds ready for tomatoes when we get given them 😊

Oh that is just the best place to work out difficult emotions! I miss my gardening already as it's pretty much done for the season.
Nice to hear you having some really nice healthy days.

Thanks, llama & Liza.
I had an excellent night's sleep & have woken with no severe aches & pains. Nothing out of the ordinary, except for very stiff hands from spraying an organic weed killer day before yesterday. I have had a fair bit of stiffness & pain with my arthritis lately. It has been raining heavily since last evening (50 mm overnight) & my arthritis is always worse when rain is coming. There are flood warnings & all sorts of alerts out for today. A good day to stay off the roads. They are predicting 70-200 MLS of rain  "Expect power failures" etc.
We'll be housebound today, but I can think of much worse places to be & much worse company. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better though as I don't have any readable library books. The ones I picked quickly are either poorly written American PI ones or scary thrillers, rather than my preferred crime or detective books that are not too gruesome or scary. I recently read "Cooper not out" by Justin Smith, which I absolutely loved & will buy & "Tell me why" by Archie Roach, which I also loved but for very different reasons. I would recommend them both. The first is a very entertaining read & the second a very enlightening, sad but good insight into the realities of our first nations people. I have loved his music for a long time. RIP Archie. I shed a few tears reading his book but also felt joy in places.

Good to hear, that has to feel good.

Are you able to take anything for the arthritis? I take 15 mg of meloxicam a day, its a mild anti-inflammatory. Seems to work pretty well for me. I know not everyone can take anti-inflammatories.

That's a lot of rain, send some of it here, we are in a multi-year drought, press says worst in 500 years.

I feel so much better after a sound night's sleep. I always get up at least once, sometimes 2 or 3 times, but if I can get straight back to sleep it's ok. Last night I think it was only once.

Unfortunately, I can't tolerate any anti-inflammatories or anything in the NSAID family at all, Rob. I do take a slow-release paracetamol morning & night.

I wish I could!

Hopefully your home is not in a flood area but definitely a good time to stay off the roads. The prediction here is for an extra wet, wet season with more cyclones than usual due to both the La Niña weather patterns combined with the negative Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD)

Stay safe, Cate.

The only one I can think of is that they can help prevent necrosis after reattachment surgery for small appendages...
That's a pretty good use of leeches! Maybe they are good little guys after all....

Stay dry and cozy and safe Cate! And enjoy your reading!

Hi, Em, Tru, Llama & Liza. We're safe & dry. We had 140.5 mm of rain in 36 hours. Our drains did fairly well, considering. It looked like a river flowing down the other side of our house. We did have a small leak through onto the floor in our walk-in wardrobe, but only a minor one & there's no carpet there. It's times like these I'm glad we live on top of a hill & not near a river or creek. We didn't lose power, but I was ready for it this time.

It is now sunny & still.
G is trying to talk me into going into "town" rather than just our local town. We might. I feel he has an ulterior motive, but he may just have cabin fever.
