Cate's Diary

Thanks, LaMa & Em. It was a lovely day. I feel very lucky to have been able to relax & enjoy Christmas, where most in the world would have struggled.

So happy your bonbon jokes were a hit! You could make them a tradition where everyone makes some and contributes to the pile! We're definitely lucky! Hope you are having a great time with R and K9 there!!

The bonbon jokes were fun. I'll add to them, but I would worry about our 2 sons adding to them as they may go overboard.
K9 has gone home now & R is staying until the 7th of Jan. We went for a hike, with both dogs, along a narrow track by a river about 40km away & saw a few platypuses. R saw a small snake & we got back on the bike path again. It was lovely to see them & I got a short video. They are very shy creatures, but plentiful in this river. R drove. He has to wait 6 months to get his licence, but we will make sure that he gets his hours up & becomes competent. He has never had a drivers licence & it will change his life when he does.
We're having a home day today & I'm going to do some gardening. I have started logging everything again in MFP, as of now.

I know it's probably semi-normal for you but seeing platypuses in the wild would make my month!
Best of luck with the logging: it's super annoying but never stops being informative.

Wow, platapuses! I have never seen one - sounds amazing!!! That's great R can hang out so long with you and get driving time in, too. I am going to log calories every time my weight goes up a little so it doesn't sneak on me again. So you have a partner in crime!

It's not common to see Platypuses in the wild because they are so shy, but this area that we went to is good if you're patient. R is very much out of sorts. He's at a stage where he has no idea what he will do, where he will live & what he wants. Naturally, it affects me too. I have to try not to worry.
The logging hasn't happened yet. I'll do it right now!

R is very much out of sorts. He's at a stage where he has no idea what he will do, where he will live & what he wants.
Part of that may be the pandemic. Even though Tasmania hasn't been hit hard I'll bet it's turned a lot of assumed certainties upside down and made it harder to see and plan for the future.

It's good R has the cabins then to fall back on. I hope R doesn't get discouraged, because he seems very creative, and like he could do all sorts of things if he is patient researching what sorts of jobs are still needed in this weird transitional time. Anyway, he knows he has a place with you guys if he needs, and I bet that helps him a lot to be calmer about things!

LaMa- I'm sure you're right. It has been a weird year even here. R is now not working, has sold his house, has most of his possessions packed away & is "camping" with his parents & going backwards & forwards between us & K9. He's a little at sea.
Marsia- He'll have his days & his moments. I stepped away yesterday & left him to it. I was helping him sort out one cabin, while he started setting the other up as a bedsit. It just got too much for him. He was fine after a break, just listening to music I think. His brother called in on his way home from work for a few games of snooker & also had dinner with us.
Today R & I will go into our local town & R is going to play 9 holes of golf. I think I will take my clubs out again & start having an occasional hit in a couple of months on my own,

Sorry to hear R isn't sure of his next step - I can relate! Sounds like he has great support in you and G though, and that will help him through it.

That's great you and R can golf a little together, or stroll and golf at least. I bet the walking will do him good. We've been feeling off lately, too, and we didn't even sell our house or pack up everything to live in a cabin. Anxiety is so hard because it closes one's senses down. I hope R can stay optimistic and not let all this radical change get to him too much.

Thanks, Marsia. He has been much better today but no golf. I took Arch into town & took him for his favourite walk & did a big fruit & veg shop. I think he & G will play nine holes tomorrow:)

It’s 2021 here. Happy & healthy new year to everyone!
