Cate's Diary

It was, Em. Yes, it is a very practical, much needed present. He didn’t argue with me about it either, which was good! I bought it from the Tas fire service & it’s the backpack they use themselves. I may buy him something frivolous but then he’ll feel bad for not buying me anything.

It is a beautiful, sunny day in Tassie. It is getting quite cold overnight still (5-6 C) which helps with sleep. I'm going into my local town to the Xmas market & also there will be a popup Dutch van in a car park & I will get some treats for K9. Hopefully, I will find a few more presents as well.

It turned out to be a marquee set up in a car park. I bought some yummy treats for her & some Speculaas mix & have to rethink the presents. I can’t be seen to be favouring one DIL over the other. I also want to get the boys something more. I also bought G a cheeky present :) I also bought some lovely, quirky Nepalese Xmas decorations.
I also bought a lovely navy top.

Do you find as Xmas gets closer we want to get more stuff for our families. The market sounds lovely Cate .

I have been watching a dr Gary Fettke on you tube Cate . He is from Tas I think. Interesting guy

What cheeky present did you get G or do I want to know? :p

Also, the hotel I stayed in last week had a wooden tree in the lobby like your one Cate. I thought of you. :)

Sounds like a very successful shopping trip! Can we have a picture of the Nepalese decorations?
I'll put them on later LaMa from my phone :)

For sure, Petal. I start to panic too thinking I don't have enough or I have bought too much for someone so I need to buy extra for someone else.
Garry Fettke is a really interesting bloke. I went to see him about my feet to get his professional advice as he's probably our best orthopaedic surgeon. He was very badly treated by the local hospital & hounded out for giving his diabetic patients dietary advice. G & I found him to be really warm & funny & very knowledgeable & I would have loved to have him operate on my feet, but he only works in the private system. He's a lovely man & is very passionate about people cutting down on sugar. When we saw him a few years ago he looked really stressed but determined to fight.

Just some cheeky boxers, Em with a Tassie devil on the front. Nice about the tree & thinking of me xo

I read the diaries during the day & evening, but usually don't post until the next morning. I then forget about mine sometimes as it doesn't come up as new post.

Whut? Wouldn´t that be the first thing for any doctor with diabetic patients? Unless the advice he was giving didn´t adhere to official guidelines that´s so weird! And even then: doctors seem to have a lot of leeway with personal preference in their advice. Sounds like someone high-up had a personal vendetta.

The dieticians got their knickers in a twist apparently. Said he should be sticking with his specialty which is orthopaedics. I think he was showing them up.

Just catching up after a couple of days away Cate. Loving the sound of your Christmas market/shopping outings and your fun preparations.
I won't be doing much at all for Christmas presents this year. We've actually really dropped that tradition as a family which is nice as it takes that pressure off, but it's fun to hear about it all when one doesn't have to do it!

Hi, Liza. I'm really only making more effort for my 2 "outlaws" (DILs, but not married). Now I wish I had started shopping earlier & thought more about it. I still haven't found anything for the GK's, but I know they would rather get money anyway. I want the day to go well. There is pressure, but I'm trying to relax about it.

When I had gestational with bub the diabetes specialist at the hospital wanted me to eat more sugar and more often than what is in my regular diet, I refused and they thought that referring me to the endocrinologist would stop me being a "difficult" patient, when in reality the endo agreed that I was right and said she recommends keto to most of her patients lol.

Isn’t that absolutely crazy?

My guess is that most people they see have terrible diets and the standard diet they give out may be less sugar some, but they were unwilling to be flexible when it comes to someone with a good diet to begin with, or simply too lazy to care about individual.

My colleague had gestational diabetes as well and claimed avoiding sugar didn't help her blood sugar levels at al... I would've loved to know how strict she was with the carbs and what her readings were really like.

I'm sure that the dieticians felt that they had been shown up. Some people just get too precious.

It's raining heavily & steadily here & it's nice actually. G was going to do some more brush cutting but he's done a pretty good job already. It's too early to cook for Christmas Day, so a lazy day may happen instead. Perhaps just some house cleaning.
I'm trying not to think too much about what is happening on mainland Australia with covid. I don't want to go back to worrying myself sick over something I can't change. I did order 2 new masks yesterday as mine have valves. I wear them in the supermarket & chemist to protect against fragrance.

As I am reading this D is also outside brush cutting lantana, the situation in NSW is terrible and I hate how NSW was always held up as the gold standard by our #&^&%@ federal government. QLD has gone back to a hard border.

Enjoy a lazy day :)
