Cate's Diary

Happy New Year, Cate! Are you going to set any goals for the coming year? It's still 2020 here, and I think I'll sit down with my journal in a while and write out some notes to myself. Hope it's a wonderful first day of the new year for you!!! :grouphug:

Happy 2021 to you as well, my friend.

Thank you, Marsia & LaMa :grouphug:
I don't want to put high expectations/pressure on myself to make big changes that I just can't keep. I feel like keeping my specific plans to myself for that reason. I did gain 1.5 kg in 2020 though & now am 14 kg above my happy weight. This doesn't have me despairing, but I need to change that. I have been trying to get back into the swing of things with logging on MFP & will do that every day this month at least. I must weigh myself at least once a week. I have been so disinterested in doing anything about my weight. I have felt quite happy and content with my life & feel lucky that we live in a place that has been so protected from covid compared to the rest of the world. I need to do the best I can to be healthy & losing that 14 kg will do wonders. When I get there I will not let it go back on again, but I have to get there........
Starting right now-
2021......
I'm starting with 1400 cals per day.
Weighing once a week minimum.
I'm going to check out an exercise class in our local town. I walked around the golf course yesterday & realised that I won't be going back to golf anytime soon, but also probably won't be walking around the course with the women as it's quite steep & my knee hurt last night. I'll stick to the river walk. I got notification of my ap't with the ortho & it's early Feb, which is good. I'll get a better idea then of what I should or shouldn't be doing & if I need an operation.
I'm feeling a bit daunted at my failure to knuckle down in the last couple of years, but I don't feel negative about myself really. I have done it before....I need to find some discipline & do it again *sigh*

:grouphug: I think our brains get more resistant to the whole idea of losing weight when we've done it before, probably more so the more aggressive earlier attempts have been. But that doesn't mean you can't keep track of your calories and make small changes. Which is all you need, because all in all you've kept most of your originally lost weight at bay for a LONG time.

I agree with LaMa, and I am in nearly the same place, needing to lose 30 lbs. to get to my happy place again. I think maybe we revisit things we still need to master in spirals, where each time we learn a bit more about ourselves and our process. The hardest things seem like that to me, at least. But once we really get the hang of this for good, we'll be so great at changing very hard things!! I hope all goes well with your knee, and so glad you have your river walk!

Thanks, LaMa & Marsia xoxo
Sometimes I forget about my own diary. :blush5:
I have been doing gardening & have been busy. I burst a pipe today transplanting rhubarb & that was stressful. We have dug the pipe up & propped it up & have the water turned off. The plumber is coming tomorrow even though he is on holidays. We have only used him for the house & he is dependable & an excellent plumber. It's currently raining nicely, so any water lost is now being replaced in our tanks.
We are enjoying our time with R. I know he will buy a place down South, but it's nice to have him here for now.

I hope we are both successful in our 2021 goals Cate but I agree that we shouldn’t try to do it under duress. Let’s stay positive. Thank you for your support so far. :)

Sorry about the burst pipe, at least you have a dependable plumber to phone.

My washing machine stressed me out again yesterday - I don´t even want to think about burst pipes! Fingers crossed the plumber will be able to fix it easily.

Thanks, Em. Let's do that!

It did really stress me out for about an hour. Once I knew that the plumber would come the next day (even on his holidays) & when the water stopped gushing out after we turned off the stop valves & the pump I calmed down. I decided to finish the job as the damage was already done. I am transplanting the rhubarb into an old water tank, converted to a raised bed, which is on the other side of the house. The space where it was will have one of R's small raised beds(not on top of the pipe though, now we know where it is) & I won't be planting anything anywhere near the pipe. It seemed an unlikely place for a pipe. The rhubarb roots were wrapped around it!
It feels really cold here today & it's windy, Brrr. Where is Summer?
Hi Cate, how's Archie? Hope you had a good Christmas and had a happy New Year! Welcome to 2021!!
Archie is doing really well, Rob. He has fitted in with us so well & the 3 of us couldn't be happier. I adore him. He started off sleeping in a crate in our living room but has progressed(?) into sleeping on a dog bed in our bedroom but ends up on top of our bed between us every night. He doesn't take up much space :D He's adorable :beating:

Love how Archie "progressed" to sleeping between you! You are officially a pack now!!

I burst a water pipe recently, and it was so stressful figuring out how to turn the water off while it spurted like a geyser everywhere! Glad you got your water turned off fast!

Hope the start of 2021 is less stressful now and you can just enjoy your time with R before he goes down south!!

We are indeed a pack. He is firmly a part of our family unit now. The pipe got fixed, the rhubarb was transplanted & looks very happy in its new home & I have new round 2 raised beds in the yard. From now on I will have minimal places for snakes to hide & more vegetables :)
R had a bit of anxiety yesterday about the big picture but seemed better in the evening. It hasn't helped that settlement has been held up. He just wants it all finalised so that he knows where he stands financially. I'm taking him 1/2 of the way back down south tomorrow & he won't be back until Feb.
That's sweet, Cate! He looks handsome and it sounds like he's a great presence for you! :D
He has been really good for me, Rob. He makes me smile every day. He's by my side almost all of the time.

I weighed this morning & I'm the same. 14 kg to lose. When R leaves it will be easier to eat less. G has been cooking more & we have been eating Christmas treats. They are almost gone. Discipline time.

I'll keep you company on eating better now that the holidays have passed! I hate house sales and all the waiting and holding of breath. I hope R can stay grounded knowing he has family and a girlfriend who all care for him!
Here's to happy snake-free new raised garden beds! :beerchug: (There are no wine glass clinking gifs, so just picture the beer drinker smileys with wine glasses!)

I'll raise a toast to that, Marsia!
He seems better today & is currently going through his clothes & getting an op shop bag together.
G & I just took the dogs for their second walk of the day through the track in the middle of our bush. We kept to the middle & kept them on short leads. R had taken them down the road this morning. I'll miss him when he's gone.

Hi Cate,

Just getting back in here, taking a look around after some time away. Very nice to hear you getting your garden fixed up and less snake-friendly. I will take that story of the burst pipe while transplanting rhubarb as a warning for me to be careful. I have plans to move my rhubarb in our spring...I don't know where the pipes are around here...I did ask the landlord when i started gardening here but she didn't seem to be aware of anything to watch for...

Hi, Liza. I was wondering how you were! It's a good idea to be very careful of the rhubarb roots. They are very gnarly & go down deeper than I thought. How have you been?

Yes I especially want to be careful since I don't own here! I will research if I can just take some portions of roots and move that rather than trying to get the whole clump. I am well and just posted to my diary--nice to be back to the forum :)

Glad R is doing better. Too bad you can't put bells on the dogs or something to scare the snakes away. Nice you are having a good exercise day!!
