Cate's Diary

Many mammals have an inborn fear of snakes, don't they? I wouldn't expect a dog to react to a snake the way they would to a rat.

That's a bit of scary prospect about the snakes and Archie's possible interaction with one...
The idea of trying to snake-proof areas to minimize accidental encounters sounds good if you can do it. Do they hide in the long grasses and stuff? Anyways I hope he has a good instinct to keep away!

It is a bit scary, Liza. We have only had a snake in that yard once, but that spooks me. I don't leave any water there, which is what usually attracts snakes. I also always have him on a lead on walks & will have to watch carefully.
We're going to lunch today at someone's house today & leaving him home, but inside. I can't leave the door open as too many flies come in & a huge bird came in while G was away. I don't want to leave him outside with us not home, for a few reasons.

Awww we leave our girl indoors when we are away Cate as its like you and only a few hours . He will be safe and snug. Enjoy your lunch out

Haha, Archie has you wrapped around his little paw. :p
Yep. He does :beating: I’m a sucker!
I just learned that the Romans thought snakes loved wine and would drink it until they´d burst, so...
Exploding snakes? Eeuww!
Oh dear! How did you get the bird out?? I guess he wanted to be included on your bird count!
I opened up the glass sliding doors & shooed him out. They’re after Archie’s tucker.
watching birds at the bath on days that make me shiver, i’m not convinced animals deal with cold & wet the same way humans do.
I think you’re probably right.

G is currently driving down to pick up R & bring him & his dog home with a car load of his stuff. They should be back mid afternoon. I don’t think he’ll actually be staying here much. K9 is coming up Fri & then they are both heading down the east coast camping. I hope he moves into her house & they make a real go of living together. I think they could be really happy.

Several of our dogs were fond of jumping into streams even on freezing days (they weren't supposed to, but sometimes they're just too fast) and afterwards they'd shake themselves off, start steaming, and be dry in minutes. Found that impressive!

I love hearing about Archie, and I'm glad he's safe from snakes. I saw a whopper recently - a big, glossy, healthy-looking Eastern Brown, slithering over the road about two hundred metres from here.
(What bird was it?)

I hope so Cate--that sounds like it could be really great.

Archie & A are adjusting to one another's company & hopefully will settle soon. Poor A is getting doggy dementia we think & is very anxious.

The bird was a Currawong. They're fairly big really.

Fingers crossed, Liza.
Hope R and K9 do too Cate . It's very positive she is still in the picture .
It is positive & I'm hopeful :beating:

R is in a pretty good headspace & it will be nice having him here on & off. Hopefully, his house will sell quickly & he can then think about making plans in the new year. Getting his drivers licence will be so good for him. That's the plan.

Sounds like a good plan. Must be nice to have him back, even sporadically. He will be built back up again with you and G's support.
