Cate's Diary

Jen- It's an insidious virus & once it gets out in the community it spreads so easily. Our borders have been fairly effectively shut to everyone, including other Australians, with some exceptions.
Cases in Tasmania -New cases in past 24 hours-0, total cases 228, active1, recovered 214, deaths13.
I love that! Better not leave the two home alone.
He's funny, LaMa. He won me over & I went & changed & took him into town. We walked & walked & I tuckered him out. There was no nagging at 5 pm for a second walk. It was very sociable for both of us & I saw lots of other doggie people & also people I knew to say hello to. No shopping :D
Liza- restrictions are confusing, but I do my own thing too & mostly stay at home & rarely touch other people. My ionised silver spray is my friend & I use it all the time when I'm out. The rhubarb crumble was delish, but has now gone.
Petal- I think most of us do like our time to ourselves. I just don't feel like going into an enclosed space of any sort any more & prefer my human interaction outside. G rarely uses a recipe when he cooks, but this is roughly how he makes rhubarb crumble. He stews a whole heap of rhubarb, with some sugar(1/2 a cup?) & then while it's warm add a crumbly mix of about 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 cup coconut, cup of plain flour, a couple of teaspoons mixed spice, 75g soft butter & 1/2 cup brown sugar. You could reduce the sugar especially in the stewed mix and/or use an artificial sweetener. We just have a little piece, sometimes with a dollop of Greek yoghurt, but of course, it's much nicer with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Em- I'm not really worried about being a hermit. I make myself ring people. Yesterday I called in to see someone to see if she wanted to go for a walk with us, but she wasn't home. I tried :)
Jack- It's not even slightly confusing for me. It used to be decades ago until my older sister went to live in the US & then I made myself get used to it. Where I live we really do have distinct seasons, sometimes in one day. I just love coming out of Winter into Spring, but try not to sound too excited about it as it doesn't seem fair to the Northern hemispherites, although many in here have awful summers & are glad to see the last of them. Our summers are not horrible.
"Tasmania has four distinct seasons with the warmest months being December to March. The average maximum daily summer temperatures are between 17 and 23 degrees Celsius and winter daily temperatures sit between 3 and 11 degrees Celsius. Rainfall varies dramatically across the island."

I really enjoyed yesterday & will do that more often. Walking in town is more sociable & is flat. Up here every walk is uphill on the way back to the house. Today, however, I will stay at home. I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow & a podiatrist's ap't Tuesday & I probably should play golf on Wednesday......

This is completely different from my part of Australia, where I have been sweating like a pig out in the heat this morning in the garden. The forecast is for a big wet season this year.

That sounds like a lovely walk--good Archie knew to encourage you out :)

That is the good thing about spring and summer with covid around--it's easier to have safer social interactions outside.

I really could not cope with that. I had a beanie & gloves on for my morning walk. There’s snow on the mountains & it’s very pretty!

Tasmania's climate sounds just about perfect to me!
I think it would be, LaMa. While it doesn’t get so hot in summer, the sun packs a wallop & you do need sunscreen.

Have had a good bush walk today & about to go for the second. I’ll wait until half time in the footy as the Saints are about to play. Go Saints!

Thanks for the recipe Cate . Similar to my own except for the coconut but that be a good addition or some flaked almonds . Going to try make an apple one today as we have loads of apples on the tree .

Your walk sounds awesome

Tasmania sounds like a lovely place. I didn't realize it was north of the mainland (my geography is terrible). Do you get bad storms there, like hurricanes and such?

I have a doctor's ap't this morning after having my bloods done. I'll come away feeling worse than when I go due to the high amount of disinfectant used. I wish I didn't have an appointment. G is coming in with me & he can drive home. We'll take Arch & take him for a walk around the river.

I hope the walk around the river will help balance out the exposure to disinfectants at the doctor's and i hope the apt goes well

Hi Cate, I am just catching up. Hope your appointment goes well and there is nothing to be concerned about xx

Hope all went well Cate , I did make the crumble but had no coconut and didn't add nuts so that was lucky . It was really lovely . Loads of apples so will do again .

Hi, everyone :grouphug:
Just got back from another appointment, this time with the podiatrist. My doc's ap't was just the annual one after having annual blood tests & everything was pretty good, except for sodium levels being up a little & cholesterol up a little. My blood pressure was good & everything else was good & we were both happy. She did prescribe me some eye drops which she uses when I told her my eyes are sore a lot.
I took Archie with me today & left him in the car, in the shade with the windows down a little, after taking him for a quick walk. I won't be able to do that from now on I think, unless it's just for a couple of minutes as the weather gets warmer. Afterwards I took him for a walk around the river. It's a lovely, sunny day & about 12oC.
I'm a bit tired from all the walking & all the antiseptic handwash, but feeling ok.

Glad you're not too destroyed from the antiseptics and great to hear your numbers are looking good!
