Beagle's New Journal

Wednesday Food:
two eggs, bacon, toast - 400
bowl of mushroom soup - 200
doughnut :( - 400
peanut butter and honey sandwich - 300
Total - 1300

Water - 35oz (not doing as good today)

Exercise - starting in about half an hour.

Thursday food:
Bowl of cereal - 200
yogurt - 100
egg salad sandwich - 400
bagel - 200
rice krispie square - 100
leftover lasagna - 300
Total: 1300

Water - I lost count, not sure if I'm on my 3rd or 4th bottle! Somewhere between 80 and 100 oz I guess :p

Exercise - [skipping tonight to rest my poor legs :p]

Its actually getting harder for me to do my full exercising, likely because this past week I've been trying to do it every day. I was supposed to rest yesterday, but forgot, and tried exercising anyways (not that it did much good; my legs got tired really quickly, and I don't think I made it to 20 minutes). I've decided against exercising today, and will start again tomorrow.

And for some good news, yesterday in my Swedish lab, my teacher actually made a point of coming to see me at my station and compliment me on my pronounciation :D Apperently she was listening from her Instructor Station. It was a nice little ego boost, especially since I thought I was having trouble with my verbal skill.

I wouldn't be surprised, I remember my mom telling me about all the weight she put on when she was pregnant with my sister, and that after she lost all the baby weight, she was still nearly a cupsize larger than before she got pregnant.

I think I'm going to try some muscle work today since I won't be doing my biking... maybe a couple sissy-pushups (on my knees) or something.

Okay, so I didn't do any pushups yesterday, but I did get a lot of exercise in. I got off work really late and missed my bus. I managed to catch another one that would have taken me home, just a bit longer, but it turns out the bus I needed to connect to wouldn't come for an hour. So the FH and I ended up walking from the nearest transit station, which, as far as I can tell, is about 2 miles (3ish km) away, and it was about 5F (-15C) outside.

I've decided to go on a mini-fast for the next day and a half. I actually decided to do this last night, so I'm already about 15hrs into it. I've already gone through about 3L of water today, trying to fill myself up with it :p Next meal will be tomorrow night. The reason I'm doing this is two fold: I've been told a brief fast is really good to clean yourself out, especially if you're drinking a lot of water, and also, after not eating for so long, its much easier to avoid eating too much (since you'll throw up if you do), and therefore easier to get into a habit of eating smaller amounts.

I am so hungry though...

So the mini-fast isn't so fastidious. I've cheated a little bit. Yesterday I had 3 slices of bread with butter on them (about 220 calories) throughout the day, and a small handful of tater tots (another 150) just before bed. This morning I had a few more left over tater tots (100?) before going to work. I mean, on the plus side, this is a lot more self-control than I thought I had, but on the not-so-plus side, its less self-control than I was aiming for. I think I drank like 5L of water of the course of the day in compensation. My poor bladder :p

Though I did weigh myself this morning, and the scale was down to 192.6 :D I'd also lost an inch off my waist, and half an inch off my hips. Though both these are 'unofficial' until monday. I was just curious.

I don't think its healthy to do fasts very often at all, but would it be so bad if I did say, one a month? Or is that too close together still? Its been pretty quiet in my journal lately, I hope someone can give me a couple ideas about this.

Hey Girl! I don't really have any ideas on the fasting, but I wanted to check in with you anyway. At least this wil bump you up to page 1, so maybe someone with some good ideas will see this and give you some good responses.

I think you are doing great! Don't worry too much about a few slip-ups here and there. Oh, by the way, the discussion on keeping the cup size was hilarious! :D

Hi Beagle! I'm glad to see another faster around. I've actually been reading some really great things about fasting, though many people frown upon it. Are you doing just a water fast? I've tried those and can't last a day. That's why I had to do the juice.

I thought you might like to read this.

Check out

I think fasting once a month would be fine. I was reading in my fasting book that some people will fast every other day, some fast one day a week, so once a month shouldn't be a problem.

It also says to listen to your body and that everyone's bodies are different. So keep that in mind when you are fasting. I think next weekend I might try to do a water fast. We'll see if I can do it. haha

Let me know how it goes! Have a good weekend.

Thanks for the link MJ! Its nice to have some support in a bit of a fast... I was worried if I posted here, people would go "OMG ANOREXIA! "

Honestly, I kind of enjoyed the sense of self-control it gave me, and I think next time I try it, I might be able to go the full time without giving in, and the fact that I dropped nearly 4 lbs in two days is also very encouraging. I just don't want to do it too often and gimp my metabolism or something.

I found another link in regards to fasting that has a LOT of information in it: .

To cut to the main points of it, water fasts (which just work easier for me since I have approximately NO income to buy my own groceries, and my mom doesn't have the money for the fruit either) are suggested for shorter lengths of time than juice ones (for obvious reasons), and it specifically mentions a one-day-a-week water fast as an acceptable method. I wasn't able to find any information on that page though on how it affects metabolism overall. I may have to do some more reading up on it.

I have a physical coming up in a couple weeks anyways, I'll bring it up with my doctor and see if he has any information on it (speaking of physicals, I HATE THE DURN THINGS! Stupid metal thing in places metal things shouldn't be ... )

Oh yeah I forgot my foods for today... I actually ended my fast in the mid afternoon, around 4 when I got off work.

KFC Chicken sandwich - 650 (omg I didn't realize it was so much!)
4 perogies and some onions - 250
Total: 900

Water: Lost count again, think I'm on bottle #4 (will be 100oz when I'm done it)

Thanks for the support, I definitely feel good about myself today :D

Sunday food:
2 slices toast - 150
peanut butter honey sandwich - 350
a chocolate - 70
roast beef, veggies, little bit of potatoes - 460
small bowl of 'reduced fat' ice cream - 240
Total: 1270

Water - 50oz

Though, my back kind of hurts right now. I know why, its because I just finished another 'practice' window painting (its in my online gallery)... so much happier with this one than the last ones!

I should have passed on the ice cream, but my mom went to the trouble of buying reduced fat ice cream. At the very least, I should have checked the calories before I dished up, and only had half a bowl (its about a 1 cup bowl).
