Weight-Loss 4 Week Get-Ready-for-Summer Challenge Chat Thread

Weight-Loss
I am getting quite a chunk of my protein at the moment from fat free yoghurt. I normally eat 4 of them a day (sometimes 6). I put them in the freezer for about an hour and a half and they come out very like ice cream. It is a really easy way to get quite a lot of nourishment when you dont really fancy a normal style meal. I would always prefer to eat sweet things - and the concept of eating that and a ton of fruit during the day instead of a standard breakfast or lunch really appeals to me. Fitday confirms that it gives me all the nourishment that I could want.

This sounds like a great Idea Margaret, Thank you:)

Not today, grilled chicken at home, with a yam and some veggies. Lots of good stuff, no heavy fat and butter...

YUM good job, I love yams, I should buy some!

So my Wednesday was a failure, not a total failure but a pretty big one, lol...

First off NO SLEEP...ABSOLUTLY NONE:(

I have a sick4 yr old that couldnt go to daycare and a hurt 14 yr old that stayed home.

I didnt get the opportunity to get to bed till 5 pm and then I just couldnt sleep...I laid in bed and texted with the b/f for a cpl hrs...drifted for 15 mins here and there...

Boy saying b.f is very odd to say and hear...

We were sorting out a few issues and it wasnt exactly fun but whateva....I think we are back on track, well he is but im a little uncertain, meaning it isnt gonna take me as fast as him...

I had a whopper with cheese and a handful of fries with gravey...
a large coke...

a venti chai tea latte (these wake me up and wire me)

ok good news is thou...

I had my protein smothie this morning...I make them with aserving of frozen fruit, yoguart adn juice...so lots of fruit servings

I also had half a cucumber and 2 servings of green beans so I worked on some of my stuff...

no exercise for obvious reasons...

Recap and update on my progress:

Monday:
Exercise - 3hrs 30 mins
cals 1686, protein 69.6, fibre 67.1, calcium 1298.6, sodium 1172.2

Tuesday:
Exercise - 2hrs 50 mins
cals 1570, protein 76.2, fibre 58.1, calcium 1463.7, sodium 1297.7

Wednesday:
Exercise - 1hr 50 mins (7.25 miles on the treadmill at 4.0 mph)

was supposed to go to a dance class in the evening - but Rod was too tired when he got home from work and decided that we werent going! :(

cals 1539, protein 95.4, fibre 58.3, calcium 1251.9, sodium 2028.5

Whilst the sodium was still in the acceptable range - I was surprised as to how high it was.

Still happy with my progress though

Target average calorie range whilst doing this sodium spot check 1500 to 1700
It is more important that I keep my sodium under 2,500
I am aiming for protein - over 65, fibre - over 30, calcium - over 1,000

I recognise that I will not be counting calories and all the rest during the length of the challenge. I aim to get back to simply eating healthily without doing the paperwork as soon as I am comfortable that the sodium glitch has been ironed out. Thus far - everything else has been on target. Who would guess that so much harm could be done by vegetable stock in home made veg soups.

I expect to walk at least 7 miles per day - but am not too worried about the speed aspect.
When at home I drink at least 2 litres of water a day.

Ah Cerella - with a sick youngster and a hurt teenager - your day was wrecked and stressful enough! Add working nights and not getting the chance for any sleep until you were too tired to sleep and there was no chance of you being too good.

You did well to make that smoothie and get some vegetables. The vitamins that we get from those veggies really gives our body the kind of fuel that helps us to function. Vegetables also help to protect us from all sorts of nasty things so are well worth having.

Green vegetables including the green beans that you had are actually listed among the foods that help you cope with stress. B vitamins release energy and help you maintain a healthy nervous system which was exactly what you needed.

You did absolutely the right thing in having those beans.

OK - so the whopper etc wasnt the wisest choice for a heap of calories - but you are only human. Maybe next time you will remember this and maybe open a tin of 3 bean salad for extra nutrients (which you can eat cold with no effort) and then go for a little less of the fast food / comfort food. I am not saying "have no comfort food" - just "if you were less hungry you could get the same amount of comfort with a little less comfort food".

We already have the knowledge. We know that comfort food doesnt help us get to where we want to be - but sometimes we need some comfort and there to be a "no effort" solution at hand.

Take care. I really do feel for you. :hug2: Please dont think of any of this as criticism. I can be a world champion emotional eater when the scene is set.

Ok Claudia is on my butt to get into gear so im really going to try harder to stay on top (thanks claud)...
SO... im doing sooo bad, i cant stop eating CRAP! ive even been pushing my calorie limits and havent been losing any weight. I have been more active, last night we set up the batminton set and played that for an hour or so, so that had me running around working up a bit of a sweat. I've ben doing A LOT of yard work dig and turning up soil and such, and ive been doing the jillian michaels dvd... today im going to do wii fit just because i havent in a REALLY long time and miss it lol... getting a bit frustrated with my weight distribution... suddenly my stomache seems to be very prominant and sticking out which really sucks, i feel like its something i must be or not be doing.. ugh... anyway today i step up to the plate!

Well done Motherof2 for becoming more active. It really is like I was saying earlier - so much easier if we are doing something that has become a habit. You just think "I must do x" because I do it every day - whether I want to or not. I cannot get my miles back up to what I did - day in - day out for so long it is silly. Forming that habit is a great investment - that is what you are doing now.

I am a bit concerned about what you say about your stomach. I had a bulge appear at my centre front which I didnt understand after I had lost a lot of weight. I got more and more concerned about it as it seemed harder than the fatty areas that I still had. I flagged it up to my doctor who confirmed that it was odd. She didnt know what it was. I went for a scan and it was my bowel. A hernia had developed but the scan did not reveal where. A week later before more tests could be arranged I was rushed into hospital and had to have an emergency operation to sort it out. My point being that not every change in our stomach's shape is down to weight / fat issues. If it looks odd to you it would probably be worth you flagging it up with your doctor.

Thus far Thursday is going well. I did my 7.25 miles on the treadmill at 4.0 which is pretty much business as usual.

This afternoon I walked to the supermarket over a mile away at about 3mph. Naturally I would not dream of counting the steps or time spent at the supermarket but as far as I am concerned a 2+mile walk is a 2+ mile walk and therefore more exercise. In all honesty - carrying the shopping home would be a level of ST too. It is academic as to whether it counts for the challenge as my exercise level is always high.

The next four days should be a bit of a challenge for me. We are travelling to Newcastle tomorrow - and home again on Monday. This will mean that I am busy packing and may not get my full time on the treadmill on the travelling days and will not have the treadmill available while I am there.

For the most part I should be doing the catering but nothing is ever as easy if you are not in your own kitchen. Also - preparing meals after a long journey brings it's own challenges. Can you be bothered to spend the effort / time in sorting out what you know you would be best off eating?

Dont give up now girl! You have lost so much already..but you still need to reach your goal!

Only did 15 minutes on the elliptical last night. So tonight I will shoot for 45 minutes. That will leave me with the need to do one hour on Fri, Sat and Sun. Great! lol

Eating going fine today and I'm feeling good that my few pounds of water is off. But I would so love it if some actual flab can now disappear!

Thanks OMEGA. I really find that if i give up my regular activities like you were saying once or twice they end up sitting on the back burner and become a as needed or once in a while thing so im trying to get the mentality back that I HAVE TO!

Im not concerned about my stomache, it doesnt look weird, just like im bloated sort of... it seems normal just that my body comp. is changing... i seem to be losing more in other places and my srtomache is being left behind even more then before. I know excersizes arent supposed to dermine your fat comp. but I really feel like its because im not doing ab excersizes as much as i used to.. really i dont excersize as much as i used to at all :S. Anywho thanks for your concern and if anything starts to feel or look strange ill definately have it checked out :)

I KNOW! Im not giving up, just not giving it all i got, and i really need to be... im only half way there... Thanks for watchin out for me!

I've noticed that when I disappear from this forum, I end up gaining a little weight. I dunno, the place and topic can get VERY DULL sometimes, but it definitely helps one's motivation level to come to WLF regularly. You find a lot of of-again, on-again members (including me) but no one seems to do that great when they leave here. Not sure what came first chicken or egg, meaning did they lose motivation in dieting and then left, or they got bored with the site and left, and then the motivation went down hill. Not sure..

its hard to say... maybe you just get bored with all of it in general... i know for me it started with slowly seeing the frequent faces (friends even) dissapear then i got bored with the site and probably at the same time weight loss in general... There was no one left to really talk to (doesnt help i didnt try to make new friends). i had no more questions i needed answered, ive seen all the topics come up over and over. and i just felt like i could do it myself... and technically i am.. but not at the full force that i should be or would like to that made me feel good about myself just for doing it. ANYWAY I'm definately going to try harder to get back into the game... maybe i'll even get around to updating my diary lol not that theres much to update on :p

Yeah, its so sad when your buddies stop coming to the forum. Funny part is, they seem to come back if you hang around long enough. Usually they're feeling very guilty for just leaving their WLF friends, but guilt is silly as we ALL leave here eventually out of boredom or cuz we lose our dieting drive. All I know is that I do better when I read what other people are doing to motivate me.

I agree... And it probably does offer motivation... as soon as i come back from picking up my daughter maybe ill head over the before and afters thread... thats always full of motivation :D

i think this is part of the reason i joined this challenge, I try to support others but feel that most members here now have little in common with me. I have been almost to the point of disapearing again in the last couple of weeks.

Hey Cassie, I feel bad now, I was one of the ones who kinda left... I'll have to stop by your place again and see what's up.

My day today;
Flat bench, 4 x 5 weights ranging from 155 to 205
Close grip presses, 2x6 @ 105
skull crushers 2x8 @ 80
cable pushdowns 3x8 @ 150
dumbbell flys 2x10 w/30lb dbs
machine flys 3x5 @ 220
80 crunches, 30 - 45° back hyper extensions

30 minutes of walking @ 3 mph (ankle's getting better, I wasn't wearing a brace, but still not full speed)

Also did 20 minutes on a stationary hand cycle.

Kind of fun... different anyway.

I have just over my requisite 4 hours I should be into the 5 + range by Saturday.

Barring any evening binging tonight, I'm on track again today. Haven't done any exercise today. I am planning on taking May for a walk tonight yet. Sounds like she's a dog..lol!

Well, she's crying so a walk is just the trick to keep her quiet..lol. I'm off!
