I'm speaking from experience when I tell you that after taking 2 months off, I come back to the gym and within 2-3 weeks I am back to where I ended. And for another 3-4 weeks I make muscle and strength gains beyond where I left off but again start to plateau in strength and muscle gains all over again.
Any lost strength or muscle comes back fast and this happens because of muscle memory. People are so scared of taking time off because they fear losing their gains but always forget that any real solid gains made are implanted into muscle memory and return in a matter of weeks from starting working out again.
Most of the time I blast through plateaus with supplements and a workout routine change. But occasionally I take about a 2 month break. Try it out. When working out starts to become a chore, gains become minimal, and strength is not changing for you, try this out. You'll come back to the gym ON FIRE and motivated after taking time off trust me. I have no motivation to workout after 4 months of consistent working out and I'm sure you've experienced it and working out starts to become a chore.
The months off is good for your health (muscles and joints and heart), good for your mind (you start to remember how much you love working out and can't wait to start again), and good for your gains (muscle memory brings you right back up and you fresh muscles to hit the weights hard).
