Your thoughts on rep

What to do about rep?

After reading all 6 pages, I've come to the conclusion that I care a whole lot less than I thought I would. In fact, I may not care at all. I'll never be near the top and never be near the bottom. I'm common, average, numerically speaking - and this excites me. W00t to average!

No not at all. But lets say I repped you, you would get 129 points. 1 rep power is worth 100 points, so you would get 1 point the 1/4 of a second point.

Well ya for the time being lol.

So looking at the numbers that means a rep from most of the "heavy hitters" will get you about 1 rep power. A rep from a new member will be virtually worthless (A newbie with 1 rep power would have to rep you 100 times to raise yours by 1).

Now rep power really will move at a snail's pace. I think that will be kind of boring

Ive posted some mods to the rep in the mod/admin forum. Its up to AllCdnBoy to implement the changes.

I found a mod that will allow the rep bar to continue growing and one that changes to a thank you system.

The increments for 1 point ought to be lowered TM. 100 is a little high, IMO. And, 1 point for every 100 posts instead of 300, and an extra point for every 1,000th post, IMO. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think the increments should be if 100 is too high?

1. 25

2. 35

3. 50

4. 75

or somewhere in-between?

Best regards,

Chillen

The entire rep system being changed to a thank you system or is it a combination of a thank you system and rep system, TM?

Best wishes,

I don't mind the 100 points for every rep power, isn't that unreasonable. Other forums have 1000 points for every rep power. Still think it would be nice for some other kind of implementation, like thank you's or something just to keep it interesting.

I think I should get more rep than everyone else because I'm the most mature member of the site

Oh, and also because I have the biggest willy ;)

I'm not going to continue to harp on it. I just think these changes will cause rep power to grow at such a slow rate that everyone will lose interest in it. Why rep someone if it doesn't even change their number?

I have spent alot of time trying to assist new members (some have been one to five post wonders, and then poof they are gone never to be seen again).

I DO NOT try to help a (new or regular member) relying on a rep point (or points); however, a new member shouldnt have any rep points (after all they are just starting, no?).

Additionally, a new member shouldn't have any rep points until they start contributing to the forum, and/or until another member believes they deserve a rep for what they may have posted (and time on forum goes up, and contribution posts go up).

Personally, I cant count how many times I have gotten repped from a new member with no points......"to me its a THANK YOU"......and its the "THOUGHT" that counts more than moving the rep points up (the one that is visible on user posts)....IMO.

IMO, alot persons "WANT" to give "thanks" to another member, and in general people like to hear this once in a while, and for this reason the rep and/or thank you system should remain---for the general GOOD of the forum.

Personally, I do not believe the rep points (the one that is visible on user posts) should go up every time one is repped.

Additionally, we should set our own "point spread" and not base it ("entirely") on what someone else is doing--for the "overall" benefit of the forum.

who knew something so insignificant would be so controversial.

If you can't tell who is intelligent and who isn't based on their posting then you're the idiot.

Personally I think a lot of people like to listen to people's post based on their appearance and rep power.

Someone like chillen who appears to be very fit tends to have more followers than other people. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it, since chillen usually gives good advices, but what I am saying is that there is sort of a danger if one tends to listen solely based on others appearance / rep power.

In anycase, I don't mind the reps for any way. It's nice to know if one agrees with you, but I think such things should be said publicly since forums aren't meant to be a method for private communications.
