Your thoughts on rep

I dont know if this can be implemented with the current system or whether AllCdnBoy will be willing to add this in or not, but I will throw this out there for comments.
I have seen some boards with a "Thank you Section" and an "Award/Medals" section within the heading of the user post. How this will be handled is a matter of debate, weighing the pros and cons---but most importantly---coming to a "common ground" in understanding that it will not be perfect , with the general concensus that it is for the "general good" of the forum.
For example: The mods/Admins, could be in control of the "Awards/Medals" system and hand these out to selected forum members---for excelling in a categorically specific area, performing certain functions, writing an "extraordinary post", and on and on with the possibilities (just have to come up with the categoriess acceptable).
The mods/Admins could hand out awards in a timed manner (or under some guidelines, and could do it spontaneously and impromptu). Meaning some awards could be handed out every 3 months, 6 months, yearly, and with some handed out (within the rules) on a post or series of posts they happened to read or the member taking the time to make a informational "sticky" thread that was overall beneficial to the forum and its members.
We could set up our rules differently and how it looks on the users posts, but here are a couple of "examples":
Well, what are the general feelings on this? Remember, we just have to shape it to make it work.

I havent located the rules on how a "Thank you System works" along with a rep system (as giving a person rep is a form of a thank you, anyway), but here is a post with this sort of system in place.
If you notice, the bars get a gold color and can extend to 2 to 3 rows in length. Is this possible in our forum?

I am only on this topic because it can impact the "overall" positive Karma of "most" forum users.
If one likes neg reps--this is positive-negative karma--then go for it, baby! Its all good! If one doesnt like it, they can have theirs "completely disabled" as an option, and be quiet
Incentives for persons volunteering their time, is a good thing. There are always persons with different opinions, but its the best interest of the forum that serves best.

I don't think you have to dangle " incentives " just in order to encourage / reward some people for posting.
I just hope peeps read their User CP notes that come with the rep. It is my avenue of communication.
OH, and I feel that the less creditablitly I have the better. Pedestools are build on creditability, and there is always someone after 'the pedastool'

Some of the threads have a problem with their pages. If you click on the last page especially the longer threads, like the 1,000,000 thread, and some journals (FF's, Sparrows, Stingos, and the COL.) it will give you a page cannot be displayed error. Additionally, if you click on a page number (though there are several ahead of it) it will take you to the same page.
What's up with this?

I still think we should have some kind of rep system, it's all in good fun.
I am on a gaming forum and there is no rep system... lots of times someone says something awesome and I always think "If there was a rep system I would totally rep him right now"

Ill explain the reasons some people are ahead of others, where they may not have been before.
Karky is ahead of Phate now because Karky has more posts. His post count is outweighing Phates for example. Therefore he gets more points for that. Before Phate probably had more rep points, therefore beating out Karky.
A rep power for every 25 rep points was kind of low, since we were into the 6K rep point and up levels. However now I realize that we changed the category levels, but we wont achieve them because are rep powers are lower lol.
I like the thanks idea. Thats probably pretty easy to modify, maybe just changing the words add rep, to thanks in the code. IDK to be honest.

Yeah, understand how it happened. I'm just saying that's what I disagreed with. It's much more weighted on how long you've been a member...the easiest rep of all (plus you can just look at the join date if you want to know that)..... but it looks like I'm being outvoted anyway so I guess the point is moot.
