Your thoughts on rep

What to do about rep?

I say ditch it. It is actually kind of annoying sometimes when you put in a lot of work and help people but you never receive any reputation at all, and there are "bands" of members running around repping each other up.

Well thats life my homo-partner.

I think we should definately keep it, its good to know when someone appreciates a post youve made! Also who care's how much rep anybody has. :)

Tom, the purpose of this post is because people care so much.

Anyways I put it in the middle of the newer increments and the old ones. Everyone should see that their rep has gone up. I am conversing with the mods and admin about rewording the rep to something like "thanks" or "good post" instead of the political "I approve of this mesage" lol. I dont know how that is done, but I am talking abou it.

I still believe post count and length of membership should affect rep more then rep points received but thats my opinion.

The whole rep system is now being judged by rep power instead of the titles and categories you are in with the amount of rep you have received ie "name known to all" "splendid one to behold"

Who are these bands? My most recent 7 were from 6 different people

...and yeah, something just changed

This is true, but oh well. No system can be perfect. YOu have over 6K posts and have been here for going on 3 years very soon. Thats worth more then a few rep points in my book.

100% agree with that.

Longetivity should mean something, and the forum can give back thanks--as best they can to long term members, and there are quite a few of them.

On the "Thank you" idea:

1. One way to do it, is if the person gets a REP from one or more members on a post (and obtain the rep points), it would also accumulate on the "Thank you" section of the post of the user (just the accumlative number), and a forum member could click it and see who gave it and its associated comment.

Currently there is no way for another user to know who is giveing reps. (and not knowing (LOL) may just be a good thing, who knows). :)

This would be a REP, and Thank You combination.

2. Another way is to have both: If the post isnt quite worthy so-to-speak of REP, they could just "Thank" the poster, and it would show in the title bar on how many thanks they received on that post, who gave it, and the comment made--it could be set up one or the other but not both, etc.

Rep or thank you combination.

Any other ideas on the Thank you and Rep?

Best regards,

Chillen

Can I just have the big red bar back? Seeing as I'm so great?

And Tony, does your family originate from Scotland? You look Scottish

i agree. For instance, when you help some of these "Joe Blows" as they used to be titled, the chances that you get repped for it by them is nothing, and even then you get maybe one point. I'd have to say my overall rep for actually helping people is about 200 pts out of 2242 that I have.

I've compalined about rep before (i haven't read all the thread, if i'm reiterating sometihng, my bad) and that's what I'm saying.

Alot of people told me rep was just for fun, but I tihnk rep should be an indication of experience/helpfulness/overall knowledge. Honestly I tihnk there are quite a few people with higher rep than they deserve, hell i'm one of them.

No not at all. But lets say I repped you, you would get 129 points. 1 rep power is worth 100 points, so you would get 1 point the 1/4 of a second point.

Well ya for the time being lol.
