Weight-Loss WLF Team Challenge - Team SUCCESS!

Weight-Loss
I should keep a stash of healthy granola bars at my desk for days like this (and they are becoming more frequent with the recent promotion)...but I hate to have food sitting around because I would probably eat it all at once.

Shop bought granola bars are often pretty unhealthy if you look carefully at the stats. Be very wary of buying some.

Fruit is often a much better option.

4/6: I got my water, exercise, and situps yesterday (4/6). I didn't even bother with drinking no calories--I had a Slimfast for breakfast because I had too much stuff to do yesterday to prepare a decent meal, and ended up drinking some V8 juice and a Smirnoff. I think I was being a little rebel with that yesterday.

4/7: Today (4/7) was better. I did over half an hour of walking outside (part of it with my puppy) because it was so nice, and just now did half an hour on the bike. I also got in the 15 situps after the bike. I got all my water and drank nothing else, not even any flavor. It was a PAIN, but I have absolutely no desire to do that every day this week.

4/9: I'm going to be using this post to keep up with my points. I noticed at the end of last week, it was time-consuming to look up each post from the previous days and write down what I got. Yesterday (4/8) I got in all my water, did 15 minutes walking and 45 minutes on the bike. I struggled to get those situps in (my abs are hurting). I got half an hour of walking in today (4/9) and 40 minutes on the bike (I'm probably going to go back to doing 1.5 hours on it again, I feel I burn more efficiently that way). I still need to drink a couple more bottles of water and do my situps, but I'll have that done before 11 PM.ell

4/10: Today marked the first day I've gone to the wellness center. I did 10 minutes on the elliptical, 25 minutes on the treadmill while there. I also came home and did a 5 minute walk with my daughter and puppy and then did 25 minutes on the bike. So I've pretty much been active all throughout the day, spacing out exercise. Did the 15 situps and my last bottle of water just now (but I'm sure I'll be drinking more before bed.

4/11: Had an off day as far as eating goes (today's my birthday) but I still got in over an hour of exercise, did my situps this morning, and all my water. Some of it was flavored this morning, so no points for that mini-challenge.

4/12: While I got all my water in throughout the day easily, I did miss out on full exercise points (my sister wanted to go out this evening). And I also made sure to get in the situps.

3 points for water, 2 points for exercise, 2 mini-challenge points (4/6)

3 points for water, 2 points for exercise, 3 mini-challenge points (4/7)

3 points for water, 2 points for exercise, 2 mini-challenge points (4/8)

3 points for water, 2 points for exercise, 2 mini-challenge points (4/9)

3 points for water, 2 points for exercise, 2 mini-challenge points (4/10)

3 points for water, 2 points for exercise, 2 mini-challenge points (4/11)

3 points for water, 1 point for exercise, 2 mini-challenge points (4/12)

Omega, thanks. I actually live a few blocks from a natural food store where I do most of my shopping. They have great, healthy granola bars that I keep meaning to pick up. Maybe tomorrow :)

I will get all of my points today...just did my exercise, and am working on the water. The no calories thing shouldn't be too difficult to me. I don't drink coffee much anymore so I'm not worried about that! Scale is being so stubborn at 153...Can't wait to see a lower number...but getting a little stuck is proving to be very motivating!

Camila - it is great that the granola bars that you are considering are actually healthy. Very few of them are. A lot of people think that they are doing something that is going to help their healthy eating and end up having the very worst thing.

Belinda - I really don't expect to get any of those points this week. I have had two tins of fruit today (1 at breakfast and 1 at lunch). LOL We can drink what we like as long as we have 3 litres of water.

I could see me maybe trying harder if it was more than one measly point. But with it being worth such a low value, today is probably the only day I'll get it.

One point can win a grand final, one point could be the difference between a win and a loss, I drink coffee with milk, I drink beer, I drink cordial and juice thats drinks i want but don't need. and i quote what my partner says " do you really need that beer " but I'm not thinking it as a challenge but as a life style change for a week. I'm not asking people to do this challenge for the rest of their life just a week. I understand people don't want to waste tinned fruit juice that's fine but maybe freeze it have it after the challenge. Just an idea

Freezing things is not an option.

I maintained a very slim body (measured as 21.7% body fat using lab quality equipment by UK Biobank which is very good for a woman of my age group) until the past two years.

I then gained weight under a time of great upheaval. Believe it or not - the smaller part of the upheaval meant that my husband and I had to move out of our own home and move in with my parents who lived over 300 miles away. My parents are both in their 90s and we were having to travel 600+ miles far too often as problems needed to be sorted out. A minor impact (apart from having had to give away tons of my things, get our old house renovated to a level where it could be let out - involving new windows and doors, new kitchen, garage refurbishment, millions of repairs/maintenance things, garden makeover plus complete redecoration - and live among a mountain of boxes as the disruption has had to be localised to the two rooms I was given in their house) is that I now only get a corner of what was my old fridge freezer. There was only room for one fridge freezer in the house so we kept the larger one and I got only part of the space. I haven't got the space to chill my water (even though I know that it makes it more effective) I cannot freeze my yoghurt and make it taste like ice cream. I have healthy food going off because I have no fridge space to put it in. Frankly it is insane that I do not even get half the space in the fridge for Rod and my food. Only yesterday - she commandeered some grapes that I put in there for Rod and myself. I buy her the food that she asks for and then she takes things that she never asked for.

Drinking plain water is no problem at all. I can do that easily.

No alcohol at all - not a problem - I only have a few drink units a year anyway and they tend to be at events like weddings...

I would not dream of having a high calorie soda or cordial.

I never drink any calories in tea or coffee at all (not even the 2 calories in the plain stuff)... I would not dream of touching the stuff.

I drink allocation level of water (1 ounce for every 2 pounds of my weight) always - irrespective of challenges... Anyone weighing over about 200 pounds should be drinking more water than the 3 litres that the challenge is asking of them.

I never drink whole milk or semi skimmed milk - but I do sometimes have skimmed milk. It is one of the options that I have to ensure that I hit my calcium target of 1200mg. It really depends on how much yoghurt I have that day. If I have three meals - each containing 250g yoghurt of the brand that I get I should be fine - if I only have 500g I may well fall short depending on other food that day.

I do not drink cartons of fruit juice. I simply do not waste fruit juice if I otherwise acquire it when making a meal. If it is part of a meal and I am comfortable with the calorific and nutritional stats for the meal I see no reason to change things. I will not waste healthy things.

From time to time I have flavoured water or diet drinks to add variation - but there is nothing there that I need and cannot happily go without...

There is nothing wrong with my drinking nutrition - and I am not going to mess with my general nutrition for the sake of a challenge point. I am not that worried about the challenge point.

I only got to the stats that I had by adopting the healthiest of nutrition in a whole heap of areas. I aim to get back to where I was as quickly as possible and I am not going to unplug healthy things out of my diet that I have in there...

People need not worry - as it is fairly certain that people from all teams will drop points from time to time... I will be very surprised if too many people are ahead of me regarding exercise and mini challenge points by the time that the final week is here.

Saturday was a good day..Got my exercise in...2 points..15 situps 2 points and 3 litres of water..3 points
Sunday was a write off I woke up sick..body aching, throwing up,sore throat cough and cold.and to top it all off I started TOM.I drank bits of water not even a litre and no exercise..I am feeling the same today,But I know i need to drink water.as for exercising..No promises..I have severe TOM'S.to the point where I am almost unfunctional..if I wasn"t so stubborn. I would be in bed right now.
I have opted out on the no-sugar drinks ..the only thing I ever drink is water and coffee and I cant give up my coffee without sugar..even if it was 20 points.i wouldnt suck it up.if I dont get a certain amount of coffee I get migraines and very agitated.I know thats a problem. But I have given up so much that I love..coffee is not going to be one of
them..not even for a week
It was a great challenge Brad..Just too much for me..
I weighed this morning I was 146.5..I was excited BUT I KNOW its because I didnt eat yesterday. But it was nice to see it though even with starting TOM I normally gain 5 lbs.I know I will regain it though.
EVERYONE ONE HAVE A GREAT DAY.
I put in 20lbs as my challenge weigh-loss.I think I really put too much..I am thinking it it is too much for the weight I am now, consideing I am averaging a lb a week..Any thoughts ANYONE??

Christine - you might not regain as much as you think. Remember - your weight may well drop in a few days from the TOM so that will counteract the increase in food weight in you a bit...

There are plenty of things that I wouldn't dream of doing for 20 points or 1000 points...

If you can do a little bit of gentle exercise it may well help the TOM cramps... It is classed as being one of the best things that people can do... I am not saying "do half an hour because we need the point"... I am saying "if you can persuade yourself to do a couple of 5 minute bursts it may ease the pain"... maybe a little walking around (or on the spot) or a few yoga poses...

In the meantime - maybe a naproxen and a warm bath or hugging a hot water bottle / hot bean bag may help...

Well done for the points that you did get.

Brad - well done on your points too. I was too busy explaining why I could not freeze things earlier to say that you are doing great. You are and should be proud of yourself.

I am actually doing my best to see if I can get a point today... I cannot see me managing it any other days though...

I went to the local supermarket (Morrisons) before breakfast and bought some fresh fruit suitable for with yoghurt... It was however a lot more expensive... I paid £6 for sufficient for 4 meals... I have three such meals per day. Each meal portion that I have bought consists of 125g fruit. I normally pay 59p per tin and get sufficient that would be 240g drained weight of fruit plus a further 170g fruit juice. In order to make up this increase in expenditure I bought an inferior yoghurt and have eaten more of it to make up for the reduction in fruit quantities... As an experiment - it hasnt really been very successful as the total calories are higher and the nutritional outcome is poorer. I havent found any other yoghurts that give stats that approach Fage Total 0% Greek yoghurt. I intend to do the same for the rest of the day - but cannot say that I am enthusiastic about repeating the process tomorrow when I run out of this batch of fruit and yoghurt...

I have had 1 litre of plain tap water so far today. I will have at least another litre at my hardcore zumba class tonight (I only ever drink tap water at zumba or aerobics). I've done over an hour of exercise plus the sit ups...

Going well this week so far. Had an amazing surprise of 600g loss from yesterday. Did my situps and a few pushups and had all my water.

Christine I'm with you on the coffee story - will absolutely NOT give up my coffee! I would rather starve than give it up :)

Mands - Brad has ruled that despite it containing 2 calories - you can claim the zero calorie points if you drink coffee black with no sugar. That may help you claim a point if you can drink it that way. If you cannot - I think that most people will drop an odd point as the weeks go by... I have on this... If we all scoop max points most days we should do very well... Well done on the weight loss. That is brilliant.

The most important thing is that we all work together and do this as a team. We are not going to have anyone drop out of this team.

I managed to claim max points yesterday. I had the fresh fruit for all three of my fruit and yoghurt meals. It was not a great stats day for me... I ate healthily all day with no slip ups (evening meal which is my variable was casserole in the slow cooker after zumba with lots of veg - onion, leek, carrot, parsnip, broccoli). The only drink was about 3.25 litres of tap water. I posted earlier that I had done all the exercise and sit-ups.

Just a quick updated scoresheet (you might have to reload the page if it shows you the old one). Congratulations to Belinda for being our biggest loser as well. :)

Great job team! Sorry for not checking in yesterday...

Got all my pts yesterday except for 1 exercise point.
Got all pts today.

My week as been crazy busy...But I am still here and going strong!

Monday..Still really sick.I did drink all my water for 3 points and did the 15 situps despite my TOM..OMEGA..I DID TRY one of the exercises it did relieve it while I was doing it.But the hour exercise was a bust.
Tuesday Still sick,So wanting to call into work. But didnt.I drank all my water again. But no situps or exercise unless you count 9 hours of running around at work.I havent been eating alot lately either.but forcing something into me,just to keep going.
MANDS..thanks I was thinking I was the only one that couldnt do without coffee..lol But I have to have sugar.AnywayEveryone.Have a great night.Hopefully my stats will be better in the next couple of days

Camila - brilliant point scoring. Well done! :hurray:

Christine - it really doesnt matter about the exercise point. I strongly encourage people to do exercise when they are well because I really believe that many of us would not have developed weight problems if we had always been very active... That is probably the case for my husband and myself... That is why I am apt to nag people... It isnt ALL about challenge points though - so if people are not well it is more than reasonable that they could not face exercise... I am pleased that you managed a little exercise to try to ease those pains... You have done brilliantly to get the points that you got...

You talk about running around at work... Only you know how active your work is... It may be worth you sending San a message and describing your work to her and asking her whether you can count that as exercise... I know that some people who have very active jobs are allowed to class it as exercise for challenges... I know that one day last week I had the electrician in lifting floorboards and disrupting everything - and I was moving furniture and boxes all day... As it happens I did an hour of zumba that night - but I would have cheerfully counted all that work in the home as exercise...

I didnt have the world's best Tuesday from a weight loss perspective... I bought bananas thinking about having them with my yoghurt and had far too many calories in fruit... I then cut out one of my 250g servings of yoghurt. Everything ended up out of balance... Not enough protein. Not enough calcium. Not satisfying enough.

I got the no tinned fruit point (one yoghurt meal with raspberries, one with bananas, one meal axed)...

I got all the other points. The other points are easy.
I drank 3 litres of water no problem. I had 1.5 litres when at salsa.
I did 2 salsa lessons and a bachata lesson plus some outdoor walking.
I did the sit ups...

I really do not see me doing it again. I tried. This messing about is not helping.

Hitting my protein target and calcium target are at least as important if not more important than being in calorie range... that is what preserves your muscle so that it is fat and not muscle that you are seeing disappear when the scales go down. It isnt a case of "just cut your calories and all will be good - you know it is working because the scales go down..."

Omega - I think you are doing great, and if shifting something throws your diet out of whack don't bother with it, points or no points. I appreciate how in-tune you are with your diet. I definitely hope to get there someday soon!

Today I got all of my points...woohoo! Also, the scale was down a pound to 151! So that is really good. I feel like I am retaining a lot of water though, some hopefully once I get that worked out the scale shifts even a bit lower. I'd be happy with a weigh-in of 151 for Saturday but would also love to see it go even lower.

I mentioned in my journal...I now even have more motivation to lose weight! My boyfriend and I have planned a weekend get away with some friends at the end of May...and we will be doing a lot of swimming! So I really am going to try and work hard to get down another 10 pounds by then. If I could be around 140 by that time I might cry tears of joy...lol!

My crazy week of work is almost over. Then I will be around & posting in here more consistently. The weather has also been awful (pouring buckets for the last few days) so I'm hoping by Friday I can start exercising outside again!

Hope you are all having a great week!

OMEGA...As much as I would like to count my job as exercise..Its something I do every day and havent lost weight..My 2 points for exercise I would like to use it as an incentive to get that extra hour in a day.Even though I have been doing awful with points this week for the team this week.which I feel bad But I would love to use it this week just for the team. You Lifting boxes and moving furniture I would of considered that exercise too cause its outside the norm.I admire you for trying the no calorie drink for one day..I couldnt do it.But I agree with Camilla..you are so in tune with what you are eating.Everyone has thier own way of being successful and you have found yours. That in itself is amazing.AND I wouldnt mess that up.Have a great day Omega.

I have got to share something that I think is hilarious...

As you know - I dance a lot... I am friends with a lot of people that do tons of dancing... One of my friends has started teaching Irish dancing here and she has just posted some really funny pictures in FB... I am copying them here because it has to be good if we are inspired to be more active...

CAMILLA..Great job on getting to 151..Feels ssoooo good doesnt it.YOU are almost in the 140s.

I,Too have an incentive for the end of MAY.Its my 19th weddig anniversary,I bought dresses last fall when they were on sale of course..Bought them too small so I would have to fit into them by MAY.I probably need to lose 10 to 15 more to make them look good..and I want to wow my husband cause its some sexy dresses..lol..So hopefully I can do it.

Its been pouring buckets here too and snowing..Mother nature doesnt know what to do.Cant wait for warm weather.

My husband is making me go to the doctor today cause I think its hit the stage where its not going away and antibiotics are necessary.

I havent all my water points and my 15 stups buts thats it.The kids and I are doing a squat challenge so I am doing that too..But the hour exercise is busted..The wheezing I have is preventing me from doing anything like that.

I am at 147.Down a pound as well.Hopefully it stays for the weigh in on Saturday..I AM DOWN 20.5 LBS since I started I said I was going to have a pig-out day when I get 20..But I really dont want too.Not feeling well might have something to do with it.But I really have no real craving for anything right now..lol.I might tommorrow..but not today.

Gotta go get ready to go to the doctor.

Have a great day.
