Weight-Loss WL competition: TEAM PLATINUM

Weight-Loss
Hello Steve :) GOLD will encourage you to keep up in this thread. You have worked out how to contact us by simply mentioning "winning team".

In GOLD we actually want you to do well with your project - we just know that most people will have difficulty keeping up. :)

Which country house are you going to?

Are you a member of one of the organisations that make such visits much more affordable? Most people are aware of National Trust and English Heritage - but I find that comparatively few people have heard of Historic House Association which is excellent value for money (being cheaper than the others with a bigger range of properties)... If you havent heard of it - be sure to check it out.

Be sure to get your 1 hour done. I have done mine and I know that you will not want to slip too far behind me. :)

(No not Gold!) <- Pre-empted! :D

Yeah my families got a national trust ticket so makes things cheaper, but never heard of HAA, will have to take a look.

Went around Lydiard park which is near (and free for the main gardens). Didn't do the whole house tour today though as it's better when the gardens are open etc. Started off on one of the 45~ min trails, which soon turned into a 1.5 hours one when we took wrong turn lol.

Do you do many tours?

I just edited in my exercise on my sheet, so you could copy what I did if you like.

That's a cool idea, just seems silly duplicating it in many threads saying same stuff :)

Steve

Steve - I do a lot of walking. In fact I do more walking than dancing which says quite a lot about me... Walking was absolutely central to my main weight loss project a few years back... I used to shoot for insane daily step counts back then. I now shoot for an absolute minimum of 15,000 steps every day (although I often do more).

We are members of both HHA and English Heritage. In fact we pay for our English Heritage membership with Tesco tokens so it doesnt cost us a penny. We used to be members of National Trust. We go to lots of historic houses and either tour the house or just walk round the grounds. The unfortunate thing is that many of them are closed or on reduced opening at this time of year. In the summer we often go to do our walking in nice surroundings.

I note that Lydiard Park is on the HHA property list of free houses to visit.

You may want to look into membership before paying to go round such "independant" properties.

Actually, that's mostly a myth UnstopableHeart. The water doesn't stay in your stomach long enough to make much of a difference.
I did hear that water, when mixed with a meal, makes the meal's full feeling last longer.
Actually it's not a myth haha. The water doesn't start leaving the stomach until like 30 mins after drinking it about. So if you fill your stomach up with water..eventually there will be no more room for anything, thus feelin full.
Try it yourself xD Next time your hungry just drink a bunch of water(2 glasses, so 32oz) and then tell me your hungry haha. :)

well waters always a good thing. I've heard alot of people mistake hunger for thirst, so drink up!

Water = good but drinking to much water is bad and can be deadly, don't over do it.

It is something I need to keep an eye on with temps reaching over 40 C(that over 104 F for those who cannot convert) on a lot of days at the moment + lots of exercise + very high water consumption means I have to go out of my way to consume electrolytes in particular sodium.

Low electrolyte levels = Cramps or worse

Hello Team Platinum!!! Just popped in to see what the slackers are doing :D
looking forward to competing against you so keep up the good work!

Is everyone remembering to exercise?

I have done my exercise for Sunday. Have the members of team platinum done theirs?

Agreeing with Korrie - I have heard the notion that people mistake feelings of hunger with thirst which can have an impact on calories consumed.

Whilst I agree with Trusylver that there are medical conditions where people can find that they personally need to drink less water than the average person - I am inclined to think that the average overweight person is not aware that a person's weight has a bearing on how much water they should be drinking.

There are all sorts of experts that give guidance on how much water is appropriate. A very easy rule of thumb is to look in the toilet and check the colour of your urine. It should be clear and if it isnt the chances are that you are not having enough water.

I found this article interesting. It gives quite a balanced approach and opinion.

Drinking enough water can help your skin, reduce water retention and help prevent constipation.

The rule that I try to follow when I am being good is 1 ounce of water per 2 pounds of weight.

I guess the bottom line is that if people feel that they might be having too much they could discuss everything with their doctor.

Honestly, I"m not gonna get tons of points for exercise....I will get some though, but an hour a day is alot for me....however, i plan on losing alot of weight!

I have a feeling a lot of you are ahead of me time wise lol. It sounds like you all get your stuff done well before I do! My usual routine is work and then exercise.

LOL it is more important to actually do the exercise compared to worrying about the order.

I set myself a minimum step count that I try to do every day. I always wear my pedometer.

On 4th January I spent most of the day with friends and didnt get as much walking done as I intended... :angelsad2:

It was far from ideal - but I got on the treadmill when I got home and was still on the treadmill until 10 to midnight...
:eek2:
I just got my steps done but it was a close thing... :Angel_anim:

Aye, going to try to keep it up, but an specific extra 1 hour a day is a lot :D All we can do is try!

Steve

No need to do an EXTRA hour than your normal exercise routine. If you normally do an hour of exercise a day - keep on doing it.

For instance - I normally do 3 salsa classes on a Tuesday. I am not going to do more than normal.

This post is for team Platinum members who may be having trouble with the Exercise Portion of the challenge. This is a very basic full body routine using nothing but bodyweight and enough floor space to lie down in. It covers both cardio and strength. The whole routine should take between 5 and 10 minute and is best used as part of a circuit (repeat as often as time and fitness level allows) or ad odd times during the day when you have a few moments.

Im glad you said this because I was starting to feel really guilty for not having worked out yet. Usually I wont start working out until I have my diet under control. Diving head first and starting diet and exercise the same day is usually a little much for me to handle. I have a pretty good grip on my diet so ill probably start my exercise routine in the next day or so :)
