Weight-Loss WL competition TEAM GOLD

Weight-Loss
San, I should have included a modified exercise for those that have back issues, I should know better considering I have a hip issue that sometimes makes it difficult for me to walk...

So I am suggesting seated leg raises with some type of weight on your legs. Probably ankle weights if you have them.:coolgleamA:

And considering this is coming out late and three days have passed once you do the amount you can split it up into how many days you want, there is no limit to how many you can do a day, just not all in one or two days:seeya:

Thanks all. I do hate having pictures taken of myself, and worse, having to post them somewhere. But I might as well, at least on here i know that people understand, and a lot of them actually feel the same way. The style of clothes I wear in the second picture is my usual one actually - I wear long, tunic type tops, and jeans. It's just that I don't usually wear *those* jeans, they are old and horrible, and I had my walking shoes on, since I walked up there to pick the car up. So...yeah. Pictures are actually another reason for me to really want to get the weightloss back into gear - I have just booked my plane tickets for my trip to California in September, and I want to be able to take some pictures that I can actually look at and like, and maybe even show to people. It's probably somewhat vain, but when I look at pictures of me at the moment, it's not so much the fact that I'm fat that bothers me, it's the fact that I look old and miserable. And that is something that I totally do not like. So, from now on, serious change!!

Transparent, that sounds like something I can do - in theory. In practice, we'll see how far I get before my legs give up....*lol*. I do have ankle weights actually, haven't used them for a while - might as well get them back out now.

No worries about me doing it in one or two days - I don't think I could if I wanted to! *g*

Quick question - I noticed that some of you use pedometers and counts steps - I'd like to get one as well, is there anything special that I need to pay attention to when getting one? There are some rather cheap ones on eBay, but I don't know if they would be any good.

I use a Weight Watchers one that got recommended to me.
Rod uses a Omron HJ-113-E pedometer and he is happy with it.

I want a new one soon and am not going to WW so will probably get one like Rod's.

Mine calculates WW points - but Rod's calculates calories...

Of the two - the calculation of calories is probably more useful.

Some pedometers convert the step count into distance (using a simple multiplier of steps and stride length)... this is always an approximation since we do not take all our steps of the day of uniform size... You may prefer miles or kilometers - so it is worth checking how this is done on the model that you are considering.

A lot of pedometers need to be clipped onto your waistband - but some can alternatively be clipped onto other places (eg pocket, jacket lapel or bra strap). Such an option could be useful if you wanted to wear a dress. Mine is clipped to a waistband - but this is not a problem for me as I hardly ever wear a dress.

Some pedometers have difficulty in getting an accurate count of steps when running... I notice for instance that my pedometer is very much in line with my treadmill for distance if I am going at less than 4mph - but if I go at 4mph or more it seems to lose some steps as the distance is no longer in line... I have spoken to other people that have this same problem with different pedometers. I cannot comment on how the Omron deals with it as Rod doesnt go at that speed.

I think that whichever one you get - it is important to wear it in the right way... If for instance it gets bundled up in your clothes (or sometimes in my boobs) it suppresses the detection of the steps... As I lost weight I found that if my bra needed tightening or replacing with a different size I would get that problem with the detection of steps...

Thanks for the info. I had a look, and the ones I was looking at are apparently showing distance, and calculating calories. Most of them had clips for the waistband, but I am sure I can adjust that to wherever I want to put it. I'll have another look around and see what the differences are (if any) - they do not cost a fortune, so if one doesn't work, I can always pick a different one. The running bit shouldn't be a problem - I am far, far away from running at the moment. I do, however, walk at between 4 and 5 mph most of the time. I have rather long legs and do usually walk at a fast pace, so I wouldn't have to start running until I hit about 5.5 mph or over. Or at least that is what my treadmill says. There's always a bit of doubt from me as to whether that's accurate or not.

Anyway, I will snoop around on eBay and Amazon a bit more tomorrow, and see what I can come up with. :)

San, my pedometer is a fitbit and I loooove it, but they are a bit expensive I think. The one I have counts steps and distance tells you your cals burnt etc and also tells how many stairs you've climbed. I find their website really great too.

I hope you are recovering quickly.

An extra thing to look out for in pedometers... Rod tells me that his pedometer doesnt let you key in his real weight as there is a limit - so this naturally has an impact on the calories burnt calculation that it does... it will be permanently understating those as he had to just put in the maximum weight that it would take...

Thanks both. I have gotten a really cheap one from eBay for the time being, just as a starting point. It does calculate calories, but I have the same problem - it only goes up to a certain weight, and right now, I am above that. But I can still compare to my treadmill, which let me enter my proper weight, and see how it comes up in comparison. I mainly just want it to count the steps/distance, simply to have something to 'beat' the next day. I'm rather competitive sometimes, and I am hoping that this will be a bit of an encouragement.

Going to see how it works, and have a look into the better ones now. Will have a look at the ones you mentioned, and see which looks best for me.

Oh, on an unrelated note - would anybody be interested in carrying this challenge on for, let's say, another three months, after this one is finished? Same concept, only that I wouldn't be able to offer any rewards to the winners (other than knowing that they lost weight and did something incredible, of course). Just checking if there is interest, because I definitely do want to carry on, and it's always more fun with others on the team. :)

Hello all, I love the way this challenge is mapped out. Will you start another one on the 23rd? I'd love to join!

Hey - I hope there is another one too - I find this one really motivating! :)
We' ll probably discuss it once this is over!

Hey TEAM GOLD! Just a quick update on me.
Here is a quote from my weight loss diary today:
(the weight loss is not the same for the challenge - it's 18lbs)

OK, This is totally not weigh in day but I am soooooo excited, I have lost 2 lbs since Friday!!! *happy dance* :hurray::willy_nilly:
I am 255 - down 19 lbs in less than 2 months.
I hope I can keep it up until Friday, or better yet lose another 1 lb - it would be amazing!!! (that would make 20lbs in 2 months -which was my original plan)

I finally got my motivation and enthusiasm back - that i lacked in the first 2 months..

I am all over fashion websites - looking at stunning outfits I wanna wear this summer.
& I am stepping up the exercise!!!

I think giving up chocolate for Lent has helped me too - I stick to it big time - discipline!! - I have been chocolate free for 3 weeks now!!!

Food today:
B: Ezekiel toast jam & latte
S: Mango
L: Home made bean burritos :)

I will see about the rest later!!!

Justina - well done for getting a wonderful new low weight. You must be so thrilled... your weight loss is going brilliantly - it is hard to imagine how quickly the weight will drop with stepped up exercise!!! worth seeing though :biggrinjester:

Look what you did with little enthusiasm... You have it now... Nothing can stop you!!!

You will be wearing some brilliant clothes this summer... the only problem will be that you will not want to spend too much money on clothes as your clothes size will be changing so quickly you will be in a totally different dress size every month...

I'll admit that I found charity shops a life saver on the way down... the opportunity to wear lovely virtually new clothes that fitted perfectly and then buy new a couple of weeks later... You can tweak to follow fashions and use accessories (which are not size dependant)... No-one ever guessed what I was doing...

Justina - I'm still being good and having no chocolate...

I ate out with friends on Saturday (exceeding my calories and spoiling my whole weekend for weight loss despite trying to do things sensibly) - and came very close to having chocolate... The other couple that we dined with are both carrying a few surplus pounds... Rod ate as much as them... I only had about half a popadom, no starter, no dessert, no wine (just diet coke), half a portion of rice and I tried to order a healthy meal (until they wanted to put the main courses in the middle and I found out about the nan bread which is when the diet fell apart)... Anyway I got a fair amount of comment about my attempts at being good... At the end of the meal the restaurant brought chocolate mints - and I was handed one of them and told to eat it... I started unwrapping it and then stuffed it into my pocket when everyone was looking the other way...

I was quite proud of myself for surviving that one!!! Its a bit of a comment about the social pressures (or perceived social pressures) associated with eating out...

Justina, so HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY for you...

It's good to see someone doing well considering that mine has hit a plateau...

So :party::party::party:

324.8 - 3.2 this week :)

Nice work folks!

All my exercise points first week of 0 mini challenge points. I was just too exhausted to add any exercise. Some nights I sat down in the shower. That's tired.

Thanks Omega & transparent!!

Wow, well done Quercus!!!

Omega - well done on the chocolate - I almost had some accidentally a few times - just over 20 days to go!!!
On the bright side I got to try new things - that I would never have tried otherwise!
As for the cloths - you are right - I should NOT go crazy spending a lot.. I have a feeling I will a bit... I am going home to Europe this summer (Spain, UK, Hungary) & the people there only see me once a year - I have the desire to look good :p I m vain!! haha

OK here are my results for this week:
March 8 lost 2.5 lbs & current weight is 254.5 lbs [overall: 16.5 lbs lost & 6.09%]
ex. points: 10
mini chall. points: 10

That means I lost 19lbs in 2 months - which I am really pleased about! Now I am about to step up the exercise - From this week on I will have more time for it - I hope I can keep up this weightloss.. I try to lose about 10 lbs every month until I reach 200...then I m very likely to slow down- which I don't mind. :)

I hope you guys have a great weigh in day!!

LOL Justina - did I tell you about the time I went to Greece after I'd lost tons of weight... We had spent tons of time in a village there (spent two entire summers out there from spring to November)... Anyway we didnt go out in 2007 when I did my main weight loss... When I spoke to my friends on the phone I didnt tell them what I was doing... My friend Vicky phoned me the day before we travelled and we chatted and she said that she would not be in the village the next day but that I should call and get a key from her mother and we would see Vicky the day after...

Anyway we turned up in the village and I did think that Vicky's mother was a bit cold and distant... aloof... Anyway I saw Vicky the next day and it transpired that Vicky's mother thought that Rod had taken another woman on holiday... It was only when Vicky assured her that she had chatted to me on the phone and I was in the midst of packing and it was definitely that the penny dropped that it was me...

It was so funny... No-one recognised me... Old women were crossing themselves when they saw me... For me it had taken a long time - but for them it had effectively happened overnight because they had been thinking of me as a very big person until that minute...

It will be just the same for you. No-one will recognise you.
