Weigh Yourself Everyday (or frequently) Club

Sunday Oct 2nd : 227 (+1.0)

Binged yesterday

Monday Oct 3rd : 227.8 (+0.8)

Didn't binge but cheated again last night. I'm not saying i won't again but i'm determined the next week will be on track.

10/3 - 172 lbs pre-op weight, after not eating or drinking for the last ~18 hours...

Won't be weighing again for a while and am not quite sure what to expect when I can. In a couple of hours I go in for my surgery, both knees, full replacement. I probably will be in the hospital and then rehab for up to 3 weeks. Won't have a lot of control over my food or exercise then. The only exercise is likely to be the physical therapy sessions. And don't know if I will have access to a scale.

My experience with surgery is that I gain, 10 lbs or more due to edema, swelling. It's water weight but takes a couple of months to go away. The doctor tells me the metal and plastic in the implants will weight a couple of pounds as well.

Good luck with the surgery and rehab!

I just pulled up my old weight logs from 2013. I had outpatient hernia repair surgery on 9/6/2013. Weighed in at 185.1 that morning. Didn't eat a thing all day on the 6th due to surgery/recovery, weighed 191.7 (+6.6 lbs) the next morning. Pretty crazy, that.

Haven't posted in a few days. A few up/down fluctuations, but an overall loss since my last check-in, which was on Thursday.

I haven't had any binges, nor even had any significant deviations from the daily calorie goal, in quite some time now. Hoping to keep that up. Finally cracked 180 again. Today's weight is my lowest since December 2013. I also haven't had back-to-back days under 180 since that month. Hoping to hit that little milestone as soon as maybe tomorrow!

You're doing great Ben, it's good to see :)
I hope you can stay in the 170s now (unless you want the 160s?)

Thanks, and good question!

I don't have a specific goal weight, but looking in the mirror and at a couple of other metrics, I'm almost certain that I'm within 5-10 pounds of ending the calorie deficit phase and going into maintenance. I have a big spreadsheet where I track a ton of stuff, and from all the metrics I created a formula to predict my "ideal" weight. My scale weight has been under 185 every day since 9/13, and in that time frame, the ideal weight prediction has ranged from 170.3 to 172.8. It usually tends to drop a bit as my weight drops--not by nearly as much, but it should, because the formula is intended to help reflect whatever muscle mass I may be losing as the scale drops (i.e. I want to get to roughly 12% body fat, and it's trying to calculate based on that.) Point being, if my formula is just a little bit off, (I mean, I'm sure it's off. The question is more "how much is it off?") and/or even if it's "perfect"and I lose a little more muscle mass with the next few pounds, I could see going a hair under 170.

It does seem--based on both how much I am able to lift in the gym and the various body fat metrics I'm trying to track--that increasing the calorie goal a couple of weeks ago has slowed the loss of muscle mass. The predictions this week are actually a little higher than they were last week, despite the fact that I'm a few pounds lighter. Like I said, it typically drops as scale weight drops, so the fact that it hasn't is a likely indicator that muscle mass loss is being at least somewhat mitigated. And yeah, I'd been getting a little weaker in the weight room, but lately I haven't seen any drops in weight/reps I can lift.

Anyway, that's a long answer to a short question. Here's the tl;dr version: assuming I keep doing well over the next few weeks, it seems certain that I'll attempt to go into maintenance somewhere in the 167-173 range.
