Weigh Yourself Everyday (or frequently) Club

Hey Ellyra! Welcome. I think you will find posting here will help you keep track and on track. For me the first step in managing my food and weight has always been to recognize what I am doing. Good to see Vic and Misty here, looks like all is well with you both.

Nothing new here, down the few tenths I was up yesterday, but in my whole number rounding, no change.
  • August began 161, ended 159, ranged 163 to 159.
  • September began 160, ended 158, ranged 160 to 154.
  • October began 159, ended 158, ranged from 155 to 162.
  • November began 160, ended 153, ranged from 153 to 164.
  • December averaged 156 and ranged from 151 to 159.
  • January 2021 averaged 155 and ranged from 149 to 160.
  • February averaged 156 but ranged wildly 145 to 166.
  • March averaged 147, ranged from 143 to 153, the high just the one day after surgery.
  • April
    • 1 - 147 lbs
    • 2 - 147 lbs
    • 3 - 148 lbs
    • 4 - 148 lbs

I was doing alright yesterday until the evening. It was a rest day so I didn't need many calories, but I was a bit hungry all day (which is a rarity for me). On the other hand, I didn't have as many veggies as normal. Anyway, I relented before bed and had a ~190 cal cookies & cream protein bar to hold me over until breakfast. Normally these are something between okay and edible, but for whatever reason it hit all the junk food levers and before I knew it I had consumed 3 - and was still hungry. 1 cup of cottage cheese stopped the caloric bleeding, but by then I'd gone from a comfortable deficit to an unplanned surplus - my first in 15 months. Hope it'll be the last...

It must have been the moon last night, a very similar thing happened to me, but with almond butter. My first time in almost 20 months. I also posted about it on the binge thread. We can hold the line, today is another day, lets do it!

Thanks Rob =) The lbs are a bit difficult to lose b/c we are still in lockdown and it's a bit cold outside still but hoping I can continue.
Good job on maintaining! I hope you're feeling better.

Good to see Misty and Err holding most of your losses! Misty I understand the problem of the lockdown and the cold, I also struggle when I can't get out. Is some of that changing? It should be getting warmer, and are y'all getting your vaccines? Vaccines are pretty much availible to everyone here, now the problem is that some are not taking them, I don't understand that...

I am up into the 150s for the first time in a while, except the one day postop. Don't know if its a trend or just noise, but I will watch it. If it seems a trend I will drop my calories a little. I do have some safety cushion, the 150s are not a bad place for me to be, but going up is not a trend I want to see.

I think you'll be fine once you get back into your normal routine Rob, but just running the numbers @ 150 lb and 15-20% body fat you're looking around 1850-1950 calories/day when sedentary vs 2100-2200 with light exercise. I've been trying to adjust my calories daily to match my exercise, but I don't recommend it - I too easily get accustomed to higher calorie days but start to feel hungry on low calorie rest days...

Hey Flyer, good to see you here. Hope you can hold that weight. Thanks Err, but my "normal" seems to be lots of ups and downs, I am learning to live with them.
I've been trying to adjust my calories daily to match my exercise, but I don't recommend it - I too easily get accustomed to higher calorie days but start to feel hungry on low calorie rest days...
I think that is sound advice, I try not to pay attention to burned calories when exercising, ignoring the lack of burned calories now that I am not is a bit less comfortable.

Well I am on an upswing, without clear reason, as usual. Possibilities include:
  • Fat gain - maybe one or two pounds, but my calorie surplus just has not been enough to explain a 10 lb plus gain.
  • Water due to carbohydrates - I kind of think this is a likely explanation for a lot of it, my carbs are up. The question I am grappling with is "so what?". The carbs are mostly fruit, veggies and other healthy foods, no pasta or grains. Is there any downside to this? Other than the few pounds of water weight, which I think I can live with?
  • Water due to sodium - may explain some of it. I have been trying to keep my sodium intake reasonable, but sodium can be hard to track accurately. Not sure mine is up much.
  • Postop edema - probably not, its been 2 weeks now...
  • Random unexplained (as yet) variability - maybe... I am getting better at figuring this out, but not completely. I am getting a bit more comfortable with it, and being in the mid 150s is not a bad place for me.

The reality:
    • 5 - 148 lbs
    • 6 - 148 lbs
    • 7 - 151 lbs
    • 8 - 155 lbs
After losing over 160 lbs I began maintenance in July 2020 and am trying to stay somewhere in or close to the 150s.

Good to see Misty and Err holding most of your losses! Misty I understand the problem of the lockdown and the cold, I also struggle when I can't get out. Is some of that changing? It should be getting warmer, and are y'all getting your vaccines? Vaccines are pretty much availible to everyone here, now the problem is that some are not taking them, I don't understand that....

Our vaccine rollout is painfully slow. We had some challenges with supply. Toronto is an emergency lockdown again because cases are high and hospitals can't keep up. Seniors are being prioritized and most of the population is expected to be vaccinated by Sept. The weather is slowly getting better and I have been going out more but it's not the same intensity and resistance as working out at the gym, working with what I have though.

It is unfortunate people aren't choosing to get vaccinated - there are tons of people who would love to get it.

My weight is hovering at 119lbs...I'll have to eat extra healthy today

Rob I agree that can't all be fat and is most likely water.

I wouldn't mind a new weight low, but at least fat is trending down...

Sorry your vaccine roll out is slow Misty, ours has gone pretty well so far. Here in Utah anyone can get it, no waiting, and no charges. Biden says that should be true in all of the US in about a week. Then we will quickly have an excess of vaccines, they are still making them. There is talk of sending some north to y'all and south to Mexico, hope that happens, the sooner we all get it the better. Eating extra healthy is good.

Thanks Err, I know it has to mostly be water somehow. As I say intellectually the gain doesn't bother me, but still psychologically it can be hard to see. You are getting close to your previous low, looks like your downward journey is continuing.

Nothing new here.

After losing over 160 lbs I began maintenance in July 2020 and am trying to stay somewhere in or close to the 150s.

i do weigh myself every day, but being in maintaining mode, it's typically unexciting news. i did get shut out this past weekend. i usually count on exercise rooms at hotels to check ... often with some amusing results on highly inaccurate scales ... but nevertheless ... i discovered a locked up exercise room this weekend. *&*%# COVID...!
