Weight-Loss Water - Let Thirst be Your Guide!

Weight-Loss
I was wondering if it makes a difference when you drink water? I mean, does it matter if you drink your daily recommended amount all at the same time, in a three hour window, or does it need to be spread throughout the day. I tend to drink at least 40 oz before 9 a.m., then it will take the rest of the day to drink the next 40 oz. What is recommended?

Actually I don't think that it makes a big difference when you are drinking water as long as you drink enough. But I know that you should drink a glass of water just before you want to eat. This will already fill up you gastric and so you won't eat too much! It is even better to have it already five minutes before your actually starting to eat!

I am starting to hate water

I know that you should drink lots of water if you are on a diet trying to lose some weight. I guess it should be eight glasses, right? Well first it was okay for me and it didn't bother me too much to drink so much water. But now I am already stick of the stupid water and usually I am not able to drink so much anymore. How do you deal with the drinking issue?

It's easy when I'm in class or working out, but at home I never feel like drinking it. Periodically through out the day, I'll just force myself to chug a bottle or glass.

Try adding a little bit of lemon or lime to it if you want some flavor! I find it's easier to just fill up a water bottle (nalgene for me) and say, "I need three of these today, and anything else extra will just be extra good." Make individual goals for your day, and meet them! And hey, if you can handle chugging water, just try to down some once in a while and it'll make it that much less that you "have" to drink later. Drinking it consistently all day is easier for me than to try to drink it all with meals, etc.

Morning,

Make yourself a homemade soup! I can easily get 40 ounces of water into me during one meal of soup (I'll boil up a beef bone and add veggies/chili peppers/etc.).

Enjoy,

Barbara

RadiantPebble beat me to the lemons and limes idea but i have another one that tops it ! :p

Crush watermelon and ice in a blender. It's yum.

Yup!
I always make sure to get the real stuff. Not, that artificial crap. Its a tad more expensive but well worth for its natural Vc content and better flavor.

I'll have to try that some time.

Try adding some frozen blue berries to your water. They will "unfreeze" almost instantly and make the water more fun to drink lol. Taste good too.
Of course, adding any fruit to water is great. Its an easy way to get more fruit(health benefit) along with usually making the water more enjoyable.

I hate water. I find I can drink it if it is ice cold. I will take it and put it in my freezer for about 45 minutes. Not to get frozen hard but to get icy then I squeeze it breaking up the ice and I can chug it just fine that way. I also try to add fresh lemon from time to time. I am getting better with it!!

Wow your ideas a great. I am definitely trying the idea with the watermelon and I am also going to put some lemons in my water in the future.
And also the idea of making a soup sounds great, but I used to think that soup doesn't count as a drink. Because a soup contains spices, veggies and stuff like this. May I call it nevertheless a drink?

You can also try low calorie drink mixes like Crystal Light or the generic versions, which count as glasses of water. Most are 5-10 cals per 8oz of water. If you're just shooting for the 64oz, that's only 40-80 cals a day.... I'd say that's worth it.

Try using a few chunks of frozen fruit as your "ice cubes" - it adds very little calories and is a good way to sneak a little more fruit into your diet, and it flavors the water.

The part that drives me crazy is having to go to the bathroom every ten minutes! :willy_nilly: Does that get better? I just give up after a couple of days of it (drinking water and all the bathroom visits). I keep reading that drinking water helps with weight loss.

Dont forget the food!

This topic gets thrown around a lot in here. Some are opposed to the concept of minimum water amounts and others (like myself) find water does make a difference.

However, that said, 8 glasses a day is a guideline only. The foods you eat will also dramatically affect the amount of water you are taking in. Coffee, tea, fruit juice, soup, diet cola, watermelon (or most all fruits), veggies, etc all contain water too and can be considered part of your daily water intake.

Unless you are chewing on jerky and soda crackers all day as 90% of your diet, you are getting lots of water already.

For myself I drink most of my water in the way of tea at work and then straight water at home in the evening. I do that primarily because it does help to make me feel full and aids digestion. But due to the fact I eat so many fresh fruits and veggies, I never worry about getting the full "8 glasses" I could probably drink 1 glass and my morning coffee and still be fine.

Just a thought.

I've read a few different things that said pop didn't count as water - although I never really understood why.

I'm going to pretend it doesn't... I'm trying to stop drinking it and having a tough time!

Yes and no

Technically it is made with water. Absolutely. And it does count as water intake.

The reason people tell you NOT to consider as such is because of all the "stuff" also listed on the ingredients that a person needs a Chemistry degree to pronouce, let alone understand. Diet sodas are just as bad for nasty looking ingredients.

Another big factor in the trying to get people away from soda and pop in general is the ENORMOUS amount of pop people have become accustomed to drinking. It has been listed many times, by many sources as one of the TOP contributing factors in weight gain and obesity in the world today. I used to be able to EASILY drink 2,3 or more Super Big Gulps a day without a thought...... Scares the crap right out of me now!

So although soda does "technically" have water in it, there are much MUCH better ways to get at it!

p.s.
Urine is also 99% water, but I would want to drink that either.

Honestly I would think the point of water is to clean toxins OUT of our system, not introduce them in greater numbers than before. Crystal Light and that is made with a bunch of chemicals you can't even pronounce, I wouldn't be chugging that to get a lot of water.

You dont usually see slim people forcing down water so I dont know how great it is or not for fighting fat. I'm sure there are studies going either way. I get about 80 ounces on work days (we have these huge 20 oz cups) in the form of green regular and decaf tea, I just love drinking it but its not to try to get any amount of water down. But still, its a lot of water I'm getting and I've been doing it for years. I can say its certainly not helping my WL any as I've been on a plateau for months now. I'm sure others have opposite experiences, that's just mine.

Heh... Slim people don't count!!!

A great point! My mother recently sent me some crystal light to China (cant buy it here) and just reading the ingredients was enough to turn me off it.

As for the slim folks and water...
I also see slim people downing 4 liters or more of full on sugary coke or slurpees a day on top of their 80% fast food and junk food diets and not gain any weight, so I dont think water content counts for people already skinny or those ones who can't gain a pound to save their lives... :)

Now healthy???? Thats another story all together.... :)

"Water"

Be careful with bottled flavored water. I was drinking Disani and noticed I always had to drink more (its becuase it has alot of sodium, so the water made me thirsty - go figure). The propel from gatorade might as well be Kool-aid it has so much sugar in it. I've been drinking Fruit2O (fruit two oh), and while it does have some small amounts of sodium, its the best I've found without having to "mix my own".

I do drink "plain" water with my meals. I too HATE "just" water. However when I eat, I need something to help wash it down. So I can stomach plain water with my food. So thats three glasses a day.
