Weight-Loss Water - Let Thirst be Your Guide!

Weight-Loss
Another factor that could effect your distaste for water could be your source...are you drinking it bottled, straight from the tap, filtered, etc? Often the water straight from the tap in my town tastes kinda funky, and I never liked the taste of it. But when it's filtered, it's much better - it doesn't have a taste. I personally enjoy drinking water, it hydrates me better than anything else, but I have to drink it filtered. Water filters for your kitchen sink aren't too expensive. Also, try drinking it out of a glass instead of plastic - that makes a huge taste difference as well. Also, the whole peeing thing can be solved by instead of gulping it down in large quantities, try drinking smaller amounts more frequently to keep your body hydrated, but not to go over-kill on the fluids all at once. Also, cutting down on your sodium and caffeine intakes can help, because you will be less dehydrated as a result, so you won't have to drink as much to compensate, thus less visiting of the "facilities."

I know that you should drink lots of water if you are on a diet trying to lose some weight. I guess it should be eight glasses, right? Well first it was okay for me and it didn't bother me too much to drink so much water. But now I am already stick of the stupid water and usually I am not able to drink so much anymore. How do you deal with the drinking issue?

Well I think water is over rated. I drink about 2 glasses a day and I still lose weight. I have lost about 65lbs and pretty fast. I still lose 2-3 pounds a week and I dont force myself to drink water.

Try drinking a glass with every meal and snack...that should be good for at least 6 glasses a day. Then slurp another during exercise, and one more about an hour before bed so you keep hydrated through the night, and voila! Eight glasses of water downed with no problems at all;)

Honestly? This is great that you have lost so much weight although you didn't have eight glasses of water a day. But why do people say that you definitely have to drink that much water if you want to lose weight? You are the best example that it is not necessary-nevertheless everybody still believes in this statement.

i read that water is in all things we eat .. so in essence u only need to drink water when your thirsty. so peeps that drinking x amount of water pluss all the water in the food u eat and drink kinda over doing it

Everyone is different

It's true, you don't HAVE to drink 8 glasses of water a day to lose weight. In fact many people think you have to drink 8 glasses a day just to be hydrated and/or healthy. The simple fact is it works for some but not for others.

Myself, I do drink at least 8 glasses of water everyday, usually more. But I exercise in the morning, noon and evening, usually 2X per night. So I sweat ALOT! :) (I live in a subtropical climate, so sweating is the norm, even for skinny minnies) Also I personally find drinking water helps me to curb appetite, especially at times when I was notorious for snacking...... (bad me, bad...)

Since I have cut soda and processed juices out of my diet completely I have not only become used to just drinking water, but actually find it much more refreshing. But that is just a personal taste.

-Some folks will tell you that you MUST drink 8 glasses of water a day to lose weight...

-Others will tell you you MUST exercise like a demon 4-5 hours a day to lose weight

-Some will say you MUST do weight training.....

-Others insist you MUST eat low or no carbs..

-Some will say you MUST take supplements, miracle cures or what not....

The bottom line is, different strokes for different folks.

Some (as mentioned by BigGuy2007) do not follow the "8 glasses a day" rule and do just fine with their weight loss. Others lose big pounds with diet alone and no or minimal exercise.

The most important thing is to find something that works for you and that you can continue to do long term.

Anyone who tells you there is only one way to achieve your goals, or that their way is the ONLY way, is wrong, plain and simple. If drinking 8 glasses of water a day doesn't work for you, thats fine, better to instead use that energy to find something that does.

Then share your secrets with us so we can see if it works for us too! ;)

Two things:

One, don't drink too much all at once (especially if you're not used to drinking just water) or you could mess up your electrolytes and hurt yourself.

Two, another easy way to get in water (especially if you're addicted to drinks that are bad for you, like cokes or diet cokes) is to drink a glass of water before you drink whatever it is that you want to drink.

How much water to drink?

I have heard to drink half your body weight (in ounces) per day. Is this right?

I have also heard not to drink during meals because it weakens your digestive enzymes...hmmmmmm:drool5:

Drink water when you are thirsty. Until you know what thirsty is, aim for 1 gallon a day (for a female) or 1.5 gallons a day (for a male). After you become used to drinking regularly, you will know if and when you need more (or, rarely, less).

Forget weight loss for a second....just for good health, you should drink before you are thirsty. My high school health teacher (very healthy....even to this day and that has been a day or two ago) always said that if you feel thirsty you are already down a cup of water. Not to the "dehydrated" level, but down a bit of fluids.

So, I sip all day. I love water and have always drank a lot of whatever it is I am drinking. I have probably over 120oz per day. My urine tells me when I am not drinking enough

I drink well over 256 oz of water every day of the week. That's not including what I need when I exercise, which can often be as much as the rest of the day combined.

My urine is a very pineapple juice color and smells like freshly baked bread. :D
