Comparison Day

Well since there were not positive substantial changes at least one's you could see I did not bother with more comparison photos. I did improve in my max BP and Standing Curl. With the tobacco cessation I did gain a bit of fat. Not much yet and my eating has tapered a bit. Hopefully I will begin the process of losing some of this fat. I also have started to have a few beers. In some respects to help my relationship. Sheri says I am more fun when I drink. That is probably because it allows me to relax and forget some of my troubles. (It also really improves the sex life for that night :D )

Here are the numbers we are so eagerly awaiting :D

I posted a thread about knowing when good enough was good enough. I believe as for my max BPs and Curls this may be about good enough. I don't want to start doing damage. I really want to improve my squat numbers though. I am going to just try to maintain my BP and Curl and bring my lower body up to par. It will be tough to do while babying this damn lower back but I am going to try at it.

I never did post what I did for a workout yesterday morning warming up for the max lifts. I suppose it should count toward working out strength training.

BP - 138x5, 182x2, 204x1, 215x1, 221x1
Standing Curl - 60x5, 80x2, 100x1, 112x1

We also went to the . I think we must have walked a few miles in the sweltering heat. It has been a cold May here until this weekend. It hit 92 yesterday and there is very little shade at the SVR. Last evening we chased tennis balls around again. Today I need to go to Ma & Pa's to do some work so I will get more workercise. My legs are a bit sore and tired so I know they are getting hit.

I don't know where I got this but boy did I get it. This morning I had a bit of a sore throat and was a little congested in my chest and nasal passages. I also had some soreness in my legs. I went ahead to my parents and worked all day all be it not quite at full power. I gave up at 5 and came home. Things have deteriated ever since. It is now 7:30 and I have had two showers. The steam really eases up my chest and the hot water helps stop my muscles from hurting. This is looking more and more like flu. My luck I will become the first US victum of (H5N1). I hope this just turns out to be a 24 hr. bug. I guess I'll know more in the morning. I have a felling I will be turning in early tonight.

Not much for exercise. My damn throat is so sore I could die. My nose and chest are better but I am afraid I have Strep. I did take Ash out on skates last night for about 45 min but that is it. I did pretty much nothing today for any workout. Attended a leadership forum by the Indiana Humanities Council with Kegan then we traveled down to . He had never seen it before though we live so close. I pretty much spent all summer there when I was a kid. Man has it changed.

I am still sick but I made myself do an easy workout to keep my mind and body use to working out. At least it should have been and easy workout. I found it quite taxing which shows me I am still weak from whatever this is I contracted. My throat is still sore and my lungs still burn a bit.

All on the Weider so the weights are lighter than loose weights.

Arm Press..............136x10, 161x10, 180x5

Upright Row............79x10, 93x7, 93x6

Lat Pull Down.........87x10, 87x10, 102x5

I will probably do something light like this for my legs tomorrow and see how I feel.

6/3 - 45min chasing tennis balls (lungs hurt some)
6/5 - 1:10 inline skating with Kegan (throat felt some pain)

6/6 morning
I am still not up to par and Sheri & Ash both now have what I have been suffering through. I doubt they will have it quite as bad or as long as me. I have a really awful immune system. This morning I set out to do a very light lower workout. I just don't want to start losing too much while I get back up to speed.

All on the Weider
Leg Press................3@265x10
Leg Ext....................3@121x10
Back Ext..................3@137x10

Last evening Sheri and I did go out to the park and hit the tennis ball back and forth for about 45 - 50 min. We kept it easy and she did okay.

All right perhaps the 3rd time is the charm. I have tried to edit and put this in but got angery and went and sulked a bit. Last night after we got back and were mostly watching TV my knee hurt when I got up. It hurt pretty bad but was better this morning. I don't know if it was the tennis, the quad ext. yesterday morning or something else. I does seem to be related to the quad and not the joint.

This morning I am still not nearly 100% but I did do an upper light workout. If you check the numbers you would see I tweaked them a bit.

5/7 Evening

We went out and hit the tennis ball around for a good 45 min. Perhaps I can get back skating tonight. Tennis acctually gets me breathing harder than skating but I still like skating better. :D

5/8 Morning

Since squats hurt my lower back right at my L5 / S1 joint and the fact that I need to cut my overall workout time I decided to try just dead lifts for awhile. We will see if I get any gains.

Dad turned 79 today, I could not be there but left him a card and told him happy birthday on Thursday. I hope he is happy living this long, we don't buy him presents because he never likes them. He has lived well beyond the age he thought he would and when he was born in 1927 the life expectancy for a male was only . If he just had quit smoking back when he was younger I think he would be getting around much better today. Myself, if I live to be up around eighty hope to be in much better shape. That is why I have quit tobacco, am exercising and keeping my body fat % in the healthy range.

I didn't do any strength training because we went to Holiday World with Sheri's parents. I walked my legs off and my toes, ankles and feet are still sore. I know we all ate too much and pretty much just high dollar junk food. Holiday World just does not have the eatery joints like Kings Island or 6 Flags. Kegan and I did ride the new coaster . It is a great steel and wood coaster. Not as tall or fast as Kings Island's but still very good for Indiana and one of the top 3 wooden coasters in the world. I did show Kegan how much more fun it is to be in the front car. You do have to wait longer but it is worth it. We also did the same with the Raven. We tried to get on the Ledgend but did not want to wait in the line.

No strength training today but some good aerobics. Kegan and I skated for a good hour and then Sheri, Kegan and I batted a tennis ball around for another hour. I should be able to get in a good upper workout tomorrow.

According to the scales I am really packing it on. My body weight this morning was up to 165. I did eat supper late late yesterday though. I won't measure untill the end of the month so I don't know what exactly is occuring. Since I am taking in so many more calories I imagine I am adding quite a bit of body fat.

This morning it was time for another upper body heavy workout. I played with the weight some and fouled myself up a bit. I left myself unable to complete the last two exercises.

I drank way too much last night so lifting was out of the question this morning. This evening we went to the park and hit the tennis balls back and forth. Got in a good 45min and then played with Ash in the park for at least another 15.

Continuing on the dead lifting theme I set out this morning to gain some strength or at least find out how much strength I have. I do feel it in my lower back which is what worries me. The other that weighs on my mind is that my legs wear out so fast and hurt so often. Not really the painful ache you would think of but they just feel stiff and resist moving up stairs and such. I did not find my max this morning because of warnings from my lower back. I may have already over do'ed it.

I got home from working too late to get in any aerobic exercise last night. Hopefully we can go skating tonight.

This morning it was time for another upper light workout. I included how I did on the first two to see if I have any gains. Some of the percieved gains are from tweaking the workout. My goal is to be in the 8 to 12 rep range. The 5/22 range was acctually supposed to be in the 8-15 rep range but all of the reading I have been doing says 8 - 12 for muscle growth and 3-5 for strength gain. I hope the measurements at the end of the month will show some gains. I think I can see some in the mirror and my weight is up to 165. (Let's hope most of that 7lb gain is muscle :D )

Day off from lifting. We did go out skating last night but my stomach hurt so bad. We turned back at 4th St. and I took 3 gas-x pills and tried to go back out. It never let up until we finally gave up and came home after about 45 min. It was definately gas but came out the other end  I hope that doesn't happen again.

Sheri and I went out and hit tennis balls for an hour last evening. It was also the first time we let the 5 year old go play on the equipment near the court by herself. She did find a little playmate but got him in trouble when he followed her back inside the court fence to get a drink. His mom and grandma came chasing him pretty quick. :)

Well it was back to deadlifting this morning. No real back pain but I do have a funny feeling in my right knee. It is kind of like the knee slips to the outside. I added one rep to each set except the warm up. I also use the dynamic stretching Tony recommended.

I tried the whole body workout this morning. Moving to loose weights from the machine for upright rows I had to search for where I am at. I am also going to have to find more weights with one inch bore. I am slow getting through it. I don't know if it is because of my age or what but I need at least 5 min of recovery between sets. I also did not manage to add anything to my heavy BP but did up the weight on the lat pull down. I am afraid I have plateaued on the Bench. I knew I had to take the LPD up after I managed only 10 chin ups. As uncle Jed would say "pitiful, pitiful". :) I did do better on my light deadlifts. I added 2 reps to the 182 & 204 weights. My short term goal on these light deadlifts are 182x12, 204x10, 215x8.

6/19 evening

Man did the full body thing hit me hard. I can really feel it tonight. This evening we went out to chase tennis balls again and chase is exactly the term. Neither Sheri or I could hit a damn thing. Man was it hot too. I reckon somewhere near 90.

He forgot to tell you that he kept hitting them outside the fence:D
