The Greenetuckian Files

My legs are so sore. It is either adductors or hamstrings but I am thinking adductors. I feel a bit of shin spints comming on also. I think it may be because I moved the frames on my skates and changed my foot position. :( I am taking today off from exercise and will do nothing but maybe some stretchs. I'll see if I can skate tomorrow, I should be able to do another upper body anyway. Maybe just arm presses and db curls.

Legs are better but I woke up with a kink between my shoulder blades and it has hurt all day whenever I move my head or right shoulder. I have had two hot showers today and stretched and pulled every way I can think of but no real success. It is feeling a bit better now but was almost unbearable this morning. I think I slept on it wrong because it was fine last night when I went to bed. It's raining outside now so I guess this is another day off skating and weightlifting. Oh well maybe tomorrow.

The kink between my shoulder blade is better but I deceided to not hit any weights this morning but hopefully be able to skate this afternoon though.

I did receive my accu calipers in the mail yesterday. They are cheapy plastic but I hope they will let me gauge with some accuracy my BF%. I tried the tri measure Abs, chest and thigh measure and came up with 16.21 which I believe is probably close or maybe just a little low. I have heard that at 13% you can see all of the Abs and I can see only the top two rows. Oh well here is what I have for now.

Weight.......159

Abs............22
Chest..........17
Thigh..........11

BF%...........16.21%
Lean BW.....133.22lbs

Yesterday I did not lift any weights but I did get a workout. Where I park just off the street had become really bad with mud holes and the gravel pushed up into humps. I tore the area up with a madock (similar to a pick ax) to loosen the gravel then a square point shovel and rake to level the gravel and fill in the holes. It looks much better now and much smoother with no mud holes. We played some frisbee, picked up sticks and even roller skated at the park a bit.

This morning I tried lifting even though the kink is still not completely gone. I only did arm presses and single arm cable curls. I do seem to be off my game and did not do as much as I would have liked although today is the first time I managed a 64lbs single arm cable curl. I may try to do some ab crunches later and plan to skate this evening.

Warm up
stretches
AP 117x5
CC 32x5

AP (DS) - (180x5, 161x3, 136x3), (180x5,161x3)
CC (DS) - (64x1,49x4,32x5), 49x5

I also did the BF% calc on as before but this time using the measure method and came up with 18.27%. That's a lot higher than the 16.21% I came up with using the caliper method. The good news is that if I can get to my goal ab measurement it will be 13.2%.

Last evening was a wash out. I road my bike to the city council meet but that was only about a mile round trip. I did discover that I can ride up there a lot easier than I use to, no huffing an puffing. I have also decided to get serious about ankle strength so you will be seeing it show up in my workouts. It is a lot tougher than anyone would think but I think it is worth it to help me in skating. The kink in my neck is still there. It is tolerable but still annoying, especially when I turn my head to the left.

I think the kink is a pinched nerve caused by a vertebra out of place. I can even feel one raised up on the back of my neck. The pain gets less each day thank god and this morning it is almost gone. The darndest part is that it happened while I slept. Go figure, inline skate on the road, lift weights and hurt yourself sleeping. Only in Greenetucky :D

Last night we did some skating. It is always slow with Ash and Sheri but I did sprint a mile. We were out about an hour all total.

4/12 Evening
Went for a half hour skate on the streets this evening. I can go much faster without Sheri and Ash. Did about 3.5 mi. in a half hour with all of the stop signs and one fall I did not think that was too bad.

Catchup

Well yesterday and today I did no strength training. I have been a bit rushed in the morning. Yesterday because I forgot that we are an hour ahead of the county directly south of us and showed up an hour early. Sheri and Ash have gone off to Ft. Wayne to visit her parents. Kegan and I have the house to ourselves this weekend.

We did skate for a good hour last evening and tonight. We ranged farther out and explored new roads. We skated most of it after dark and I now know we need reflective tape. Most motorists are observant and considerate but some are not and some seem in such a hurry. It was real close to a head on at the E st. bridge coming from the park when a Pontiac passed us with on comming traffic. If the large Chevy SUV that would have made mincemeat of the little Pontiac had not chocked it there would be no Pontiac right now.

At least we got in a good skating workout each evening. Perhaps tomorrow I will get back to muscle building.

No set workout today but man did we get one. We decided this morning to turn out for the Greene County Pride Day and help cleanup the roads in the Goosepond area (see ) Being Easter weekend they did not have a great turn out but those of us that did gave it our all. It was originally scheduled for last Sat. but was postponed due to rain. Our small group managed to fill 3 pickup loads of trash along about a mile stretch. We even found a crack pipe. Sheriffs officer Terry Pierce checked it out and identified it positively. I'm just glad we didn't find any meth labs or parts of one which are as common as ticks in Greenetucky.

This afternoon we repaired a Wheel Horse tractor, moved some brush, got my dad's golf cart running for spring and brought home an old Yamaha QT50 moped. Perhaps we did not hit the weights or skate but we can both feel the workout from today. :D

Thanks LiveFromNY, I read some of your diary and it looks like you have been at this a while. Hope I can stick to it.

Today was tax day and I had procrastinated long enough. Being self employeed I just hate doing my taxes. They are such a pain but they did give my brain and fingers a workout. We also had some severe storms around here though the worst missed Linton. It usually does by going either a little north or south of us. One of these days we won't be quite so lucky.

No strength training today but before noon the weather looked like any storms were going to miss us so my boy Kegan and I went for a long skate. Well long to us anyway. We did 8.4 miles in about an hour and fifteen min. (we measured it with the car after we got back) We climed hills today as we skated out into the country. Not really a bad time considering we had to cross two railroad tracks and wait for cars to pass several times. The hills and broken pavement really gave us a good workout also. I could feel it after we got back and Kegan took a 2 hr. nap.

I still have this pain in my neck but it has migrated to my shoulder also. I think it is an alignment problem. I plan to start back strength training tomorrow.

4/18 morning

I finally got back to strength training this morning. My ankle balances sucked, I just could not get on track. I did well on the weider machine though. I also took my BP and HR between sets and at the end. The first reading after set 1 was 113/65 and pulse of 81 bpm. at the end it was 136/68, pulse 82 bpm. My normal resting pulse (sitting) is around 60 - 70 bpm. and BP of 111 /63. I was breathing hard and thought my pulse rate should have been much higher. I have also checked it by hand while skating hard and it never reaches 100 bpm.

I am used a Reli On 741CREL that I borrowed from my elderly parents for this morning's readings. They never used it and it was still in the box. Now I will have to take it back to them and try to teach them to use it.

I found that with the ankle balances that if I hold the opposite foot with my hand I cannot balance very long comapred to just holding it up so my times improved. It really hits in the calve and side ankle area. I feel discomfort in my right knee when dead lifting. It worries me so I don't push on heavier.

4/19 evening
Thanks for the encouragement manofkent, I appreciate it.

Skated some this evening but not very far or fast. Kegan is busy with the school play. He is helping with the lighting. (good thing cause he has no talent for acting :) ) Also push mowed the yard and some at the shop but Sheri mowed most around the shop.

I finally tried what I though would be a much too large pair of skates on Sheri. I have a pair of RB Lighting 03s in size 10 I had hoped to sell. After she complained about both the RB Kitalphas and Salamon AC7s hurting her feet I put the RB Lightings on her. She did a lot better and without the foot pain. Even though they are a good inch too long they actually are wide enough. If worse comes to worse we'll stuff paper in the toes to take up some of the length. I also adjusted their frames inward to help stop her from pronating.

I have enough chew left for tomorrow morning and then I guess I quit. I have these Arivas (tobacco lozenge) but they just don't have the nicotine. I wish I could wear a nicotine patch but they break me out.

No strength training today. Did mow a guys yard that was very high using a push mower. That was a workout. Skated by myself an hour. It was a good workout and I can really feel it in my legs.

I know I have not been good at posting recently. I have not done any strength training since last Wed. I have done a lot of skating and getting a good hour of activity per day. Yesterday we took Ash (the 5 y.o.) to the Sandborn Park and had her practicing on her bicycle without training wheels. We will have to do this a couple of days a week until she can ride it. Her skating pads came in real handy as she fell over several times. Finally she just got were she would not get back on anymore.

Okay I have had a good layoff. Seems to have helped my lifting also. Today I finally achieved my goal on the arm press of 180 x10 (woo hoo :D ). I also decided to only work my right ankle to try and catch it up with my left.

I took a preview BF measure today and came up with Chest 16, Abs 19, Thigh 10 for a BF% of 14.74%. Oh well this weekend it will be time for pics and measures. I will likely start gaining BF since I have stopped the "snuff" and am only using the Arivas now. They just don't satisfy and I have found I am eating more.

Last evening I did about one hour of aerobics. 30 -40 min skating, and running with Ash on her bicycle. I also push mowed 2 1/2 yards - Chuck's, The shop and 1/2 of our own yard. I think I got plenty of cardio workout all together.

This Morning.

I took my BP and pulse right at the end of my workout and came up with a BP -141 / 68 with a pulse of 80 bpm.
