October 8th, 2007: Thoughts for the day (1)
I am no one but myself
All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. I was looking for myself and asking everyone except myself questions which I, and only I, could answer. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself.
Ralph Ellison

FEEL GREAT------------------>BE GREAT!
Remember, happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have, it depends solely upon what you think.
Happy are those who dream dreams and are willing to
pay the price to make them come true.
(Chillen)
==========================================================
Not what you have, but what you see; Not what you see, but what you choose; Not what seems fair, but what is true; Not what you dream, but what you do; Not what you take, but what you give; Not as you pray, but as you live. These are the things that mar or bless The sum of human happiness.
==========================================================
Happiness is not a reward: it is a consequence. Suffering is not a punishment: it is a result.
Robert Green Ingersoll (1833-1899) American politician and orator.

George Santayana (1863-1952) American philosopher and poet.

A mind always employed is always happy. This is the true secret, the grand recipe, for
felicity.

Our life is the Creation of our minds:
What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind.

You must be able to "think" for yourself!:
To find yourself, think for yourself.
Socrates (BC 469-BC 399) Greek philosopher of Athens
==========================================================
What does this mean Jon?
Thinkers think and doers do. But until the thinkers do and the doers think, progress will be just another word in the already overburdened vocabulary of the talkers who talk.

==========================================================
You MUST get to KNOW yourselves!
To know the true reality of yourself, you must be aware not only of your conscious thoughts, but also of your unconscious prejudices, bias and habits.

A most powerful short sentence:
Think all you speak, but speak not all you think.

As you know, Jon, Henry David Thoreau is my Favorite Philosopher. What is he saying here:

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "
Charles Swindoll

The POWER of the human SOUL and attitude toward a circumstance!
ROCK ON! YES BABY!
"We who lived in the concentration camps can remember the men who walked through the huts comforting others, giving away their last piece of bread.
They may have been few in number, but they offer sufficient proof that everything can be taken from a man but one thing:
The last of his freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."
Viktor E. Frankl
