What is a "Friend"

“A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.”

(Unknown)

“If all my friends were to jump off a bridge, I wouldn't follow. I'd be at the bottom to catch them when they fall.”

This is how I view this forum:

Success becomes sustainable when there are environments and failsafe structures which support it and which make you feel fully alive. And being fully alive calls you to play a much bigger game in life...evolving to your optimal potential to levels of greatness you never thought were possible.

Stay with friends who support you in these. Talk with them about sacred texts, and how you are doing, and how they are doing, and keep your practices together.

Mevlana Rumi (1207 - 1273)

=========================================================

A man practices the art of adventure when he heroically faces up to life; When he has the daring to open doors to new experiences and to step boldly forth to explore strange horizons. When he is unafraid of new ideas, new theories and new philosophies. When he has the curiosity to experiment--to test and try new ways of living and thinking. When he has the flexibility to adjust and adapt himself to the changing patterns of life. When he refuses to seek safe places and easy tasks and has, instead, the courage to wrestle with the toughest problems. When he has the moral stamina to be steadfast in the support of those men in whom he has faith and those causes in which he believes. When he breaks the chain of routine and renews his life through reading new books, traveling to new places, making new friends, taking up new hobbies and adopting new viewpoints. When he has the nerve to move out of life's shallows and venture forth into the deep. When he keeps his heart young, his expectations high and never allows his dreams to die. When he concludes that a rut is only another name for the grave and that the only way to stay out of the ruts is by living adventurously and staying vitally alive every day of his life.
Wilfred A. Peterson

hey chillen.
its been a long time-around 2 weeks? im glad to see your rep power thriving :)
its good to have some time to read the chillog too.
im curious: how are you doing? is your leg back to normal? is it already a thing of the past?
hopefully it is

recently, i have gotten a very bad case of poison ivy.
i am covered with it! it spreads VERY fast and i have boils/rashes on my arms and legs...pretty much everywhere but down south. i have this pink ointment on too lol its everywhere! i look like a freakin pixie!
school has had me busy too. im taking 3 honors classes and only 1 AP class this year but its keeping me pretty occupied.

anyway, i have been thinkiing a lot about my priorities in life.
1. trust in god, being patient with the healing of my back
2. get rid of poison ivy(yes its that annoying)
3. keep grades good and do my best, leaving nothing to regret
4. strengthen bonds among friends
5. work on keeping my temper

what are your top 5? anyone?

this hit hard.....because it is exactly what i am doing.
i am doing nothing every day..just waiting for my back to heal. at times i do feel overwhelmed and powerless(honestly thats how i feel right now). i am trapped and i cant do anything about it. except just wait.
i dont know if light swimming actually helps or not. all i know is that its been FAR too long for me to still be having problems with my trap.

i guess the experiance of learning not to take anything for granted is worth all this pain. because without the punishment, the lesson is not learned
and the more it pains me, the more i realize how ungrateful i really was to have no problems with my body.

im off to swim. then im going to talk with my therapist.

I layed off cardio and squats for about 2 weeks, and it healed real well. Back to normal now. THANK YOU FOR ASKING! I maxed out my stationary bike on highest degree of difficulty at 23mph, so I can only increase the speed and time for progress increase, lol. FEEL GOOD! The B day present I was speaking about many pages back was to max out my bike, and gain about 4 lbs during the month of August, and I did,,,,,,,,,,,,and PB,,,,,,,,it was without fat gain. Im currently sitting at 158, same body composition (abs clear and defined), but just a tad heavier.

Have you tried "Clear" Calamine lotion for this Poison Ivy? Seen a doctor? This is one of the most progessive and irretating vine rashes to get. and, from what I understand can be contagious. This has to be most uncompfortable and mentally draining going to school too. How has the other kids at school been treating you with this ivy problem? Whats mom and dad doing for you?

Your goals look fantastic! I didnt know you had a problem with your temper? What sort of problem with it may I ask?

I was wondering if you were upset with me for some reason since I havent heard from you. But, I decided to let you be for a while just in case I was assuming incorrectly.

ROCK ON PB.

Best regards,

Chillen

haha
nooo im not upset

its good to talk again
but yes, it has been hard having it at school...people are always asking me what it is and the ones who dont ask just look and think "wtf"
and its been annoying having everyone ask me why i got so small over the summer too.

i have been losing a suprising amount of weight. i am now 146 dissapointingly. i was eating 2600-2700 calories everyday too. i am trying to find my MT and its obvoiusly higher.

maybe eating more will help recovery too. i dont know.

my father denied my request to see a doctor. he said that they werent going to do any good and they will just tell me what i already know(yea..ok dad)
he did buy me Caladryl though. he said it always works for him, so it automatically must work for me.

its spreading.
but i dont really care. its negligable compared to my #1 priority.

oh, and i dont really have any anger problems. its just something i can improve on. sometimes i get aggrivated at failure; i have to work on my patience too.

Im glad this did something for you, PB. I dont understand this problem with your lat. It has litterally been MONTHS. What medications and/or therapy have you been taking and/or doing? Have your been and are you still under doctors care? I completely understand this issue wearing you down. I read another post of yours where you said that kids at school noticed you lost wgt (or size more relative), and stated you wern't buff any more. Remember the "norm" "sense" of maturity in kids in high school, PB, and put this in perspective, if you understand what I am saying.

What has been the diagnosis on the lat......I believe it should have healed by now with what I know of it.

I always understood when my kids were going to school that they had two verions of worlds: one at home and one at school that they faced and have a degree of acceptance they seek in each. And, both can interchange and hurt the other. BE STRONG. You can control both outcomes.

I posted just after yours, PB.

Some of what I asked in my second post, you had answered in your response to my first post. LOL.

I wasnt assuming you had a anger problem. I was just asking what degree of control you were seeking.

long story short:
4 months ago: ripped lat doing deadlifts
waited 2 days
lifted again(BAD MOVE)
relized i am screwed.
waited 2 weeks
started lifting lightly for 1 week (probably tore left lower trap here)
realized it was too heavy even though it was very light stuff
saw the doctor
he said wait 6-8 weeks no lifting whatsoever
from then until now i have been doing some unilateral leg work(which i stopped 1.5 weeks ago), swimming, dancing, running...waiting. somewhere along the lines i ripped my left lower trapezius. thats all that is wrong now. lat is healed

yes it is all my fault. i didnt even know i was ruining myself whenever i would try to do something(like lift light or swim a little harder)

...i read the posts about pain 1 page ago. thanks...made me realize more than i already discovered myself

but contrary to my past mental history, i am very successful and very secure with my self image and confidance despite my lessened state of being.
i thank you and God for that.
this summer COMPLETELY changed who i am; like a metamorphasis

and thankyou for the post on hope.
i know that it is going to heal and that all will be well....soon

as for the poison ivy; long sleeve shirts and jeans provide a hiding place for my insecurity. honestly, i would not like to go to school with all this on me for all to see. i have 2 days to get rid of it.

I have to support a freind, PB. In this I dont want you to misunderstand my intentions. FF is upset, and I dont blame him. In turn, I am upset with Mriek. He can be incorrect sometimes. And call him out on it----I am. Im angry. I just want you to understand.

Be back later.

To be honest, PB. I dont know. Post a thread in the members lounge, and see if EVO or TONY, or some other person who may know can help. I dont want to misguide my friend.

PB, if I my son had a nagging back/lat problem for months, there is no way I could let this ride. Why isnt your dad (with respect) doing more for you? It should be healed now. As a result of this persistance, you had had to deal with the mental anguish and burdons--unnecessarily, and the byproduct of comments from school associates. As a dad, I would not be too happy about this.

I believe TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO oh, there, there, better now.
