The 21 Day Club

I felt pretty weird about exercising in full view of the neighbors across the street - and talking to my laptop at the same time - at first. It gets easier.

Sometimes it is good to do stupid things... My salsa / Zumba teacher is so crazy - you never know quite what is coming next...
I sometimes think that he challenges himself to see what he can make us do :biggrinjester:

Wednesday was day 1 - 4 tracks done:
wake me up before you go go, juicy wiggle, la colegiale, belly dancer
Thursday was day 2 - 4 tracks done:
moves like Jagger, Sheila ki jawani, fireball, compania

both these days have been comparatively easy as they are still running live this week - so I comment to friends when we do it... after tomorrow it will get a lot harder

LOL - that's what it is all about (otherwise it is too easy to say "how would it matter if I didn't bother")...

Friday was day 3 - 4 tracks done - the last of the easy days as friends were dancing too...
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, compania

I make up my own names if I do not know the name of the track...

Saturday was day 4 - 6 tracks done (I took a break half way)
cake by the ocean, la colegiala, Los campeones de la salsa, wake me up before you go go, gambling man, uptown funk

today is my 21st day without drinking a beer.
preceded by 21 days without a beer.
preceded by yet another 21 days without a beer.

oddly, i'm really not trying to give up drinking beer.

been watching "Mom" ... funny show.
wonder what the AA people are doing without meetings.

Alcohol is just wasted calories - so it is a really good thing to deal with. Well done! :hurray:

I have done that in the past I have done it in challenges...

I have found "no alcohol" quite easy during lockdown... My biggest temptation time was late at night when I got home after dancing and was wide awake. It was sometimes tempting to have a drink (or more than one) to try to get so that I could sleep. Unfortunately dance has been hit by the virus and will be for a long time...

around Christmas i usually pick up a bottle or 3 of Bailey's to have with coffee, but i really never drink beer at home and with bars shut down, it's something i don't even think about anymore. except today when i did the math and realized it's been exactly 63 days since i wandered down to the beach and had a few out of frustration. i never thought this would last as long as it has and now there doesn't appear to be an end in sight.

Are you trying hard to adopt a new habit overlandflyer (or struggling with an existing one)?
It sounds like you have alcohol pretty much sorted...

Sunday was day 5 - 8 tracks done (I took a couple of breaks)
move like Jagger, Danza Da Maozinha, Los campeones de la salsa, lets get loud cha cha, run run run, la colegiala, umbrella, Mueve La Colita

The main reason why I am listing the tracks is that I'm such a cheat and want to be sure I pick enough fast ones...

i actually like beer... flavorful beers... not Bud or Coors... though i do drink Rolling Rock because i just like the label (and it's make in Arnold Palmer's home town...!). i used to home brew, but then the micro-brew revolution hit. many bars i go to locally have >20 beers on tap (apologize for using the word beer to cover all beer-like beverages), so no real need to brew anymore.

i also drink to be social, though, so i don't drink alcohol alone at home. being retired many of my days start out ridiculously early (2-3am) and by noon or so, it's really my happy hour. so i pick up the local newspaper some mornings which has the syndicated NY Times and what we refer to as the "commuter" xword puzzles and head down to the beach. Mon - Thur i can do the NYT puzzle, but it's fairly often that a contemporary clue stumps me and it's fun to get others involved if i see an opening to chat.

not every day, of course ... and only a few times a month on the average, but it's something i've had to put on hold for >3 months now and the end is not really in sight. i can probably come up with enough silly home projects that could keep my occupied for months to come, but other than 2-3 minute chats with grocery store checkout youngsters, it's pretty depressing not having any substantial human contact this long.

I know what you mean about the lack of human contact. We haven't been in a grocery store since March as I have a 97 year old to keep safe at home... As a dancer it is especially tough - in partnered dance everyone hugs everyone all the time... It isn't something reserved for people you are fond of... It is normal behaviour and like telling someone that that they cannot speak to someone nearby that they know... Dance is going to be the last restriction lifted...

Monday - day 6 - 8 tracks done (with several breaks)
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, moves like Jagger, Sheila ki jawani, fireball, la colegiala, Los campeones de la salsa

I'm so lucky that my salsa teacher who used to be my Zumba teacher put some free bits of Zumba on facebook on some mornings and I worked out how to save some onto my computer before they disappeared... I have built up a nice little collection I can use to get fit enough to restart Zumba classes if I can only manage to build up to doing an hour in a row. Zumba will be lifted before partnered dance as people can keep a distance - so I'm really keen to be part of that.

Tuesday - day 7 - 8 tracks done (with several breaks)
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, run run run, la colegiala, Los campeones de la salsa, uptown funk, gambling man

I saw this thread a few days ago and have been thinking about what I would do for 21 days...I thought about sugar but am not ready to go sugar free.
Anyhow I realized this morning that it would be stretching. I would like to commit to stretching every day for 21 days for at least 15 minutes.
It could be yoga, qi gong, back exercises, post running...anything...but i would like to do it EVERY DAY!
So there it is. I'll try and post every day here.
I did my 15 minutes (probably more but didn't time it) today--a mix of yoga, qi gong and back exercises.

I feel like this next part is cheating a little because it has nothing to do with weight loss really but I would also like to challenge myself to playing at least 1 song every day on the piano. As Cate mentioned in my diary, it kind of does has to do with weight loss as it contributes to my well-being :)

As a dancer it is especially tough - in partnered dance everyone hugs everyone all the time... It isn't something reserved for people you are fond of... It is normal behaviour and like telling someone that that they cannot speak to someone nearby that they know... Dance is going to be the last restriction lifted...
Wow that must be tough. I am often glad that most of my life-style is so introverted that covid hasn't had too much impact on how I do things. One of the things I miss is singing in groups though--another one that won't be lifted until this whole thing passes.
@overlandflyer I sympathize with the non-contact. A lot of my contact pre-covid was casual encounters around the neighborhood as we go about our days. I really found it remarkable how much I missed chatting with strangers.

Its great to have you here Liza.

Stretching and playing the piano are great choices. Cate is right when she tells you that well-being has everything to do with weight loss and indeed weight control. With luck the piano playing will press similar buttons in you that you get from group singing to give you a similar pleasure. I see that choirs are meeting on zoom - are you able to practice that way so that you can resume when things improve?

Wednesday - day 8 - 10 tracks done (with several breaks)
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, la colegiala, Los campeones de la salsa, wake me up before you go go, Danza Da Maozinha, moves like Jagger, proud Mary, umbrella
