The 21 Day Club

Good work all around! I started doing guided meditation a couple of days ago and I really want to keep doing those every day. But if I join in any challenge it usually makes me want to do everything except for the thing I committed to, so... I won´t be on here regularly :blush5:

My husband swears by meditation - so I hope you find the time to do it every day. Enjoy!

I see that choirs are meeting on zoom - are you able to practice that way so that you can resume when things improve?
Well I'm not exactly the choir singing type--more equivalent to a pub sing-along type! So i don't have to practice :) I belong to a really fun singing group where we welcome all types of singers and sing a wide range of songs...but yes haven't met for months now and zoom doesn't work for sing along with each other. I do play guitar and ukulele and sing on my own though.

What type of dance do you do?

That's great about the meditation LaMa. I do unguided silent meditation pretty much daily but love guided for my afternoon relaxation time...i admit i usually use it just to put me down for a nap :)

Well happy to say for me Day 1 of my 21 day challenge was successful--stretching and piano playing done :)

I'm impressed Liza as I could never sing or play a musical instrument. Its a shame that your singing group cannot get together online.
Well done for doing your day 1 :) Making time for you - both body and mind is a very good thing.

Thursday - day 9 10 tracks with breaks
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, moves like Jagger, Sheila ki jawani, fireball, run run run, la colegiala, Los campeones de la salsa, uptown funk

Well i guess we're even because I can't dance or even follow any kind of led movements in an exercise class!
When you do zumba do you follow an online video or do you know the moves well enough that you can just dance on your own?

Day 2 of my 21 days
stretching 30 minutes done
piano played :)

Well done Liza - for getting your day 2 completed.

I just realised that I forgot to answer your question yesterday...

I absolutely love salsa... Totally addicted... I actually have a background in all latin dance. I did ballroom latin dance as a child - taking dance exams as any child does... Like many others - I gave up in my mid teens and did normal teenage stuff... Then as an adult many years later I picked it up and completed all the amateur exams.

My salsa is my true dance love though... Luckily my husband is addicted too. There is actually a full salsa scene where there are socials devoted to salsa and a couple of related dances that normal people have never heard of... Under normal circumstances you could dance salsa pretty much every night. If you go somewhere new you can check out where there is salsa and you can immediately mix in.

My salsa teacher (who is also a good friend) used to be a zumba teacher and he still organises Zumba classes. He is a lovely person who worried about how everyone was coping and wanted to help everyone as happy and connected as possible during lockdown. Dance stopped in March - so in early April he decided that it would be a nice idea to post at 10am every weekday a little live 15 minutes which would include 4 fun Zumba tracks... It was just a little free gift for his friends to tune into and comment to each other and have a virtual zumba dance together... The tracks tended to lose their sound very quickly and get deleted off later that day... He actually did it right up until a week ago...

I used to love his Zumba classes and did about 6 classes a week until I got injured in about 2016 and stopped going... It does mean that a lot of the choreography was familiar to me. Also - some of the tracks are often used as line-ups with the same choreography at salsa events.

Fortunately a couple of weeks ago I found out how to download the little morning films to my computer and got some before they were deleted... If only I had thought of the idea sooner I would have had a better collection - but I do have an ok collection of over 20 tracks.

LOL on a couple of the tracks - I know that he is doing slightly different choreography to what we always used to do (I've told him so, and he admits it with friends agreeing) so I steadfastly ignore him on the screen at that point and do what we always did. :)

The zumba classes that he organises are currently recorded and virtual and taught by someone else I know - so I am happy with my little collection at the minute... My main aim is to get back to being fit enough to do solid classes of zumba once the group sessions start up again.

Friday - day 10 10 tracks with breaks

Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, umbrella, Los campeones de la salsa, la colegiala, belly dancer, uptown funk, Danza Da Maozinha, timber

Thanks for that write up about your relationship to dance Omega--really interesting! I can really hear your passion for it. Nice that your husband is also into Salsa. Do you guys do some dancing together at home these days?
Good for you committing to an at-home program while the pandemic continues!
I haven't gotten to my stretching or piano yet today but I've still got lots of time yet--just halfway through my day...

Well done for getting two days challenge done since I last posted.

I did get my Zumba done yesterday (Saturday).

Saturday - day 11 12 tracks with breaks
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, umbrella, Los campeones de la salsa, la colegiala, belly dancer, uptown funk, moves like Jagger, Danza Da Maozinha, timber, run run run

I really liked Friday's list so I repeated with a little expansion slotted in.

Its early morning Sunday now - so I'm heading off walking.....

Sunday Zumba was done - as I mentioned I liked the playlist so I stuck with Saturday's expanded playlist

Sunday - day 12 12 tracks with breaks
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, umbrella, Los campeones de la salsa, la colegiala, belly dancer, uptown funk, moves like Jagger, Danza Da Maozinha, timber, run run run

I am just trying to work out which track will be the next to slot in... I am not ready for that yet - but there is no harm in thinking ahead...

For sure--something to look forward to--very nice progress

Just barely able to log in my day 6! was pretty exhausted all day and just barely got to the piano...without this challenge I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten to it.
20 minutes stretching
15 minutes piano

Well done for making it... That is the beauty of challenges like this - they really help me a lot too - as there are often days when I would cut corners or not bother... The day I came back to the forum I knew that I had to revive a few challenges and this was one I knew would help me.

Monday - day 13 12 tracks with breaks - same playlist
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, umbrella, Los campeones de la salsa, la colegiala, belly dancer, uptown funk, moves like Jagger, Danza Da Maozinha, timber, run run run

Just remembered that you asked whether we could dance at home... Some days I just get time to log the numbers and the fact I've done something without much chatting...

Unfortunately we cannot currently dance at home... Our house badly needs a dance room...
The house where we live is fully carpeted and it is impossible to dance in it.

I struggled to do zumba at first in lockdown as the carpet kept dragging me so it didnt feel right... I tried different shoes (none, socks, dance trainers, flat suede soled dance shoes) but none worked...
After much experimentation I have settled on three pieces of offcut floor vinyl taped together put onto the middle of the living room floor and sprinkled with talcum powder... Then wearing socks... LOL I leave little white footprints around the house... :)

I have my 97 year old mother at home with us and it is very difficult to make any real changes... After my mother's day we seriously plan on doing some major renovations and a dance room is definitely on the list.

That's too bad you can't dance at home but very nice that you figured out a fix to do your zumba workout...
Today just barely got my piano playing in again. Barely got one song...but I got it in...still hoping this will one day feel like a natural habit!
day 7
piano-5 minutes
stretching 20 minutes

Well done for getting days 7 and 8 done

Tuesday and Wednesday - days 14 and 15 -12 tracks with breaks - still the same playlist
Arrebatate, cake by the ocean, Mueve La Colita, umbrella, Los campeones de la salsa, la colegiala, belly dancer, uptown funk, moves like Jagger, Danza Da Maozinha, timber, run run run

Wednesday was the hardest day so far. It was such a busy day.
Between one thing and another (early morning walking, normal stuff PLUS hairdressing appointment AND first proper driving lesson) it was about 6pm before I got back home... I hadn't had a chance to do my Zumba...
It was a real squeeze to fit in doing the Zumba before I made the meal.
It would have been so easy to give it a miss. If it wasn't for this challenge I would have...

Good for you fitting it in even on a busier day. yes I'm finding there's a few times i would have skipped but for this challenge. It's reinforcing the idea for me that I don't have to do it perfectly--just need to do it.
Day 9
stretching 30 minutes
piano 30 minutes
