Karl - well done for having a great day on project. Upping exercise levels really worked well for me and it looks like it is working brilliantly for you too. There is something really satisfying about seeing the distances increase and then the success at the scales too. I'll bet you never thought that it would be possible to feel pretty fresh after a 25 mile ride. Be sure to let us know when you notch those distances up even further.
for being fresh after 25 miles.
It is great that you are getting in new veggies too. I am loving the new things that I am eating. It is far too easy to get stuck into a rut - and Dawn was right - when we look around the produce department of the big supermarket chains there are plenty of items that I have not even thought of buying.
The thing about fruit and vegetables is that they are so good for us - and it is great to be able to tuck in. Karl - you eat a lot of it normally and already know - but the truth is that if you fill up on it - you naturally cut back on other stuff that would be much more fattening.
Whole diets are built around the notion of GI/GL and what you are basically talking about then is how filling a food is. How satisfying the food is for the amount of calories spent... Basically GI and GL are much the same thing - but GL takes into account portion size. The concept is that if you eat predominantly low GL foods you get full quicker and feel fuller for longer - your calories are naturally limited. The old Weight Watchers "core" diet and Slimming World diet is based on free food lists based on this. The fact is that pretty much all fruit and vegetables are classed as free food in these plans.
