Little miss is so full of life 💕
She has an amazing imagination. My fitness equipment became a castle with red exercise cones as the battlement and exercise sliders becoming stepping stones to get across the moat. Exercise bands operated the draw bridge which was the dowel used in some exercises. The keep was my power cage.

I was apparently the castle guard while I was using the heavy bag as cardio.

not much physical happening today, blog stuff for business marketing and had to hem up the Gi trousers for little miss rather than having to roll them up which is a bit of a no no in martial arts.

Tomorrow is face to face for uni but I still hope to get in some gym time later, possibly if I can get little miss to have a nap before class.

Kids suddenly remember your number when they need help lol. Eldest usually only calls for special days and when he has hurt himself.

like, why go to a doctor or a physiotherapist if you can call mum. hmm strapping wrist, thumb and ankle with heel lock instruction over the phone and advice to go and have his rock climbing wrist injury looked at by a doctor or physio before he makes it worse argh.

the ankle is just preventative now he is going to start running again while he cannot climb.

Uni was good today, but the intensity of the lab sessions is going to ramp up with a lot of exercises requiring max effort like Wingate and VO2 max testing combined with taking blood samples for lactate testing etc.

It has also been brought to my attention that the Uni has got a new partnership with the Dolphins NRL team for sport and exercise science students. it would be a fucking awesome placement if I can get that for my placement at the end of my degree.

My less enthusiastic patients will sometimes tell me that Sport ist Mord. I generally disagree, but some days... Hope Son heals up well!

🤞 for that, Tru!

I think this morning is a good example as to why maintaining good functional strength is important for everyday life and is not all about having big muscles.

this morning I became a mountain to climb with little miss hanging on to my hands as she walked up my body to sit on my shoulders. I then became a horsie as she rode on my shoulders while I jogged to the car. At childcare drop off I again became a mountain then a horsie as I carried her in, completed sign in, put her lunch in the fridge, then a primal squat with her still on my shoulders to put her bag away in her locker which is at ground level before standing back up to continue being a horsie as I took her outside and again dropping into a primal squat which needed to be held until she could be convinced the game was over and climbed of my shoulders before I could stand up again to leave.

The trouble is possibly I see this as what a normal healthy parent should be capable of when it comes to physical activity with their kids. At almost 50 I am much older than most parents of 4-5 year old kids. Kids this age need parents to set examples of physical activity, not just work and sitting on the couch. no special equipment or fitness gear just an active kid with a bit of imagination and a parent willing to look a bit silly.

I think bluey is a great kids cartoon and is a good example of being an active parent.

All my uni work for week 2 in scientific research methods is done except for quiz, all formula and calculations from week 1 exercise physiology set up in excel so I can just plug in values and get my answers (exams are online open book for the subject) anything that cuts down time later on is a good thing and was a tip from the tutor in the face to face class. Tomorrow I will move on to doing the week 2 prep work for exercise phys

Still recovering from 2nd day calf DOMS, hopefully should be feeling better tomorrow after having done some foam rolling and got hubby to massage them tonight. little miss was cute with her comment after poking my calf muscles with her finger saying "your muscles are hard mummy"

Wednesday should be fun at uni this week, Wingate tests followed by blood lactate measurements at regular intervals during recovery, 2 tests to compare active recovery to just resting.

just checking in before driving to Uni, in the lab today doing pre and post Wingate blood lactate testing and analysis which should be lots of fun. I have already added in this weeks formulae into my spreadsheet including fatigue ratio etc.

I wasn't sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but I think you do like doing lab work. You are very well organized with your course, Tru. It pays of course as you are juggling lots of balls. I don't know how you do it really.

The Lab was fun.

I was subject 1 for the Wingate and lactate testing, with total rest for the recovery. participants were split between active recovery and total rest.

Old ladies for the win, I had the highest peak power output in the lab group mostly consisting of fit healthy young men :D my fatigue index was also high which was expected for the type of athlete I am with a good indication that I mostly have type 2B muscle fibres.

Lactate recovery was interesting, before the testing the professor commented that an elite athlete could expect to have a high lactate peak somewhere around the 20 mmol/l mark, mine peaked just short of 16 and was dropping at the 15 minute measure, apparently for total rest it should have still been rising because total rest means very slow clearance of lactate compared to active recovery.

next week will not be quite so fun, with aerobic testing.
