Ryan's Journal

Lock out is normally fine with me it's getting the darned thing off the chest I struggle with or the sticking point half way through if I time the leg squeeze wrong.

Traditionally I've never had trouble locking out, but since doing all those board presses last season, I've gotten stronger off the chest, which has just meant failing further up, where it's arguably more dangerous (since the weight has further to fall). In this instance, I'm not sure if that was the cause of failure near lockout, or if that's just when my endurance ran out.

Board presses are traditionally done with a partner holding a board to your chest, although I did them with the board tied to my chest with a harness. I used them to get a pause 2" off my chest and learn to generate power right around my sticking point. Skip to 3:15 on this video from August for a demonstration:

I'm generally OK if I can get the bar off my chest, its that initial push I struggle with. Not sure if this would help as it looks like what I would end up doing if I knew I wouldn't get the full rep.

This was my first workout where I'll soon be working. Almost had some work this evening, in fact, but Tim got himself sorted out. This is probably a good thing, because my professional instincts tell me that my torn rags of workout clothing drenched in sweat and BO isn't the best thing for customer service.

Seems that way, although I understand your surprise. The Masterpiece Strength Academy shirts are good. They come with the helpful instruction on the upper back to "place barbell here."

When I do bench on occasion it could be good to have that on the chest. Or maybe if bar found her please put back on rack.
There is the joke about a blonde thinking t-shirts with TGIF were instructional too.

I may have to buy new gym t-shirts this year. I have outgrown the old ones, in fairness they were really cheap and only just fitted before, after cutting a slit to make the neck work.

Toes Go In First?

The shirt I was wearing today is one I've had since I was about 12-13 years old. As a kid, I preferred to buy clothes that were too big so that I'd have room to grow. It only took me a decade to grow into this one.

Before I go to bed, I'm pretty excited about my PT website, so I'm going to post my first blog post from there here. Strength, beauty and nerdy math come together for this one...yep, that sounds like me:

I've got roughly the next three months of blogging over there planned at a very cursory level, which is actually a huge leap in forethought for me.

Only high repz when your cutting, brah.
