Running: A New Endeavor

That's good that you had that done. A lot of docs won't authorize an ECG with a murmur. That's one less thing to worry about.

How long did you last on the stress test? I went 14:30. My cardiologist thinks I will break 16:00 after my surgery. For reference, the FAA requires their pilots and NASCAR requires drivers to be able to go 12:00. Now, if only I knew how to drive a NASCAR or 747, I'd be set...

I don't remember. It was several years ago. Plus I have a serious fear of doctors and I kind of blank out. I know I got the OK though and even did another echo a few years later to make sure it hadn't changed.

Yeah!!!! A great time was had Friday eve, theGOOCH is a cool dude, and the race went great!

I had a good time too. We'll have to do it again.

I like the tough love, FF

I plan on running 5 miles Tuesday. I just got over that damn pain in the side of my knee I told you about. It killed me after the run on Friday

Today was my first full workout since getting sick. I'm a little weak, but I'm confident it will come right back. My weight is starting to bounce back. I'm going to run tomorrow.

I ended up putting my workout off til yesterday. The lifting portion was horrid, I dunno why. I just didn't have any energy at all. Ran 2.5 miles, that went well. I have so much **** to do for school the next 3 weeks, but I refuse to slip on any workouts...

Yeah, it is...thanks 33 this year. I just got my driver's license renewed and when I looked at the pic I thought I looked better and leaner than I ever have. It feels pretty good.

It also felt good when the lady asked me "are you still 6'1 225?" lol, nope 185
I'm off to run in the rain wish me luck:D

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. It was good except my wife is away on business. She's been home 2 days out of 2 weeks. It's going to be bad until we get this house sold.

...now for a running related issue:

I'm still having problems with the tendons or ligaments on the side of my right knee (the left is better now) It's really holding me back. I intended to run 5 miles yesterday, but only got in 2 because it hurt so bad. Everything else is just a "good sore" but this can be incapacitating.

FlyinFree mentioned that this is normal and a lot of people get it as beginning runners. How long should I expect it to last? It's getting frustrating!

P.S.

I scraped the **** out of my shin doing deadlifts today. That's the first time I've ever done that. I don't recommend it.

2 things to try, and please do them in this order. You are 33, and adding any type of aparatus to your body should not be necessary. (no tape, no sleeves) You are getting thru a learning curve. Thos ligaments and bands are getting snapped, bounced, and stretched in a whole new way.

1st- try 3 rounds of 10 minute icing following your next 2 runs. that's 5 min on, 5 min off, for 3 rounds. Then on your run after that do not do it. And see how you are. ( we are increasing the healing and recovery of hem lil boogers.)

and forget idea number 2 for now. just do that and see how it goes.

Do not run on it when you are getting that "bowing" or "it may collapse" feeling. You know the feeling I am talking about. Stop trying to force thru that.

OK, I'm going to run this afternoon. Let's see how long my knee holds up. I feel like I could run forever if not for that.

...I need to remember to wear gloves, my hands are splitting open from the cold

Damn dude, sucks that you are still having issues with the sides of your knees. I've been running so long in my life, I can't even remember dealing with stuff like that.

It started killing me today, but I'm not going to let it beat me. I'm not going to force it too much and injure myself, but I'm not going to give up. I'll be back out Saturday if the huge winter storm doesn't hit.

I'm trading my mother-in-law our elliptical for her treadmill so I can at least get in some type of running in bad weather or when I have no one to watch the kids

Yeah dude. Be safe, but push yourself. I think that's smart. As for this storm, I just got to work in time, and it's starting to fall. Couldn't this have happened during the week so it would have cancelled school?!
