Runner's Club

20 mins today. almost close to a mile. but got the splints back. :(. will try for a mile tomorrow.

Go mani, you are doing good, and everytime will get easier!!

Heya,

New to the forum today.

WElcome to the club purrple!!

I figured out : I don't like outside running. It is just not for me. I love the outdoors and I could hike, bike, walk, garden..etc outside but running is just not going well outdoors.
Everytime I run on the treadmill (I know it is a lot easier than outside) i do have a sense of accomplishment I can run straight through 3-4 miles without even trying to slow down. I am pressed for time so outside my only way is the nearest park or my own road. I don't like to run on the road it is too busy, the park is too hilly so I constantly have to slow down or even stop and walk and it messes with my motivation.
So I am thinking about switching to the treadmill solely for the next couple of months and hoping it will increase my stamina to a point where I would find outside running fun instead of a dying effort.
So that said, do I still count as a runner? Don't be afraid of sharing your opinion about treadmill vs outside.
HOPE EVERYBODY HAS A GOOD DAY!!

Good luck, Hajni, whatever works for you!

I finally was able to run this morning!!:D

I woke at 6am and was like, "Ugh I don't want to run," and I thought, "But I'll do it anyway!"

Glad I did, I ran my route Beach (sand)/Harbor (asphalt)/ Meadow (dirt) and back; 5.5 miles or so. My ankle (the one that was sprained) didn't "like" the sand, but it was ok. After the run it was ever so slightly sore but now it's fine. My week:

Sunday, Wharf to Wharf, 6 miles at snails' pace with gramps
Monday, weights
Tuesday, Kickboe
Wednesday, weights
Thursday, Martial Arts
Friday, Running

That is pretty good! I'm about to start today or tomorrow so I don't expect a weight loss for at least a week!

Did nothing today. Got a production issue yesternight and had to stay up all night. Havent slept for the past 36 hours. Havent had a bite in the past 48 hours. Tooooo tired. Toooo hungry. Too much coffee. Gotta eat something and sleep. Will have to compensate tomorrow..

Of course you still count as a runner-your running arent ya?-LOL
I hate the treadmill and its all I have been able to use this week except for monday.I always get wobbly no matter how many times i double tie my laces they always come undone at least once:confused: and thats scary on a treadmill.
I think for me I dont like the treadmill because i have a mind over matter issues. When I see the time or the speed I go into panic-LOL
Even running outside-I dont think I ever ran the same route twice because i get bored easily and I like to have a little challenge by going a little further or up a higher hill... I am wierd like that.
Lots of marathoners train on treadmills and they are no less a runner than those who only run the street
I think the only diffrence with the treadmill that may make it easier to me is the band is going reguardless if you take a strike or not-on the road if you dont move your legs your not going anywhere:rotflmao:

Thanks Rimay!!
I totally agree, it is so much easier to run on the treadmill and i noticed I am not working as hard as I was when running outside!! I have to agree it could get boring. I just watched a DVD the whole time I was running.
So I ran my first home treadmill session today. Shot for 500 cal burned (although I know it is not always accurate) and I did IT!!! I ran for 3.65 miles and it took me like 50 min. I am so happy right now!! I did not have to stop, I was never out of breath (I ran about 4.8 miles/hr for the first half then 4.5 the next half with some warming up time). It is definetely more motivating to me then my park experience with all that huffing and puffing!!
I am shooting for a 5.30 am run every morning for 45 minutes, however many miles that will come to be. Eventually would like to be faster and would put an incline on there too...
So far so good, will keep you updated!!

Everybody keep on running!!
Hajni

Thanks you gals!

Everyone who runs is a runner. Period.

I rode my bike 9 miles to work, but it's still not runnin! LOL! I shall this week, but as my life is somewhat hectic, I'll get to running more frequently later.

Keep running!

ugh. I haven't run since wednesday....on that run, something happened to my knee, going to the doc tomorrow as I've been off it now for 5 days and its not getting better. wish me luck.

Hey, guys!

Sorry I didn't post for a while, I had to take care of my friend's baby boy in the mornings and very few chances to run. But I am back, re-energized with some new eating patterns and strength training, with spirits high and ready to conquer that stubborn flab which refuses to go away without logging on a few laps. So, I'll talk to you tomorrow, see if I remember how to run. :)

had a looong sleep. went to bed saturday afternoon, woke up today morning. Ran today after 3 days - 20 mins / 1.1 miles - YAY!! Broke the 1 mile barrier.

Today I ran 3.1 miles in 27:30, it was hard but worth it because that's the pace I was at in high school cross country - I know, definitely NOT the best time but I wasn't getting last! I'm going to work on picking up the pace gradually. Not sure what my workout tomorrow will be.. I'm thinking intervals. I am going to be sore though from walking 7 miles, stationary biking for 25 mins, and then having to bag and do reshops at work for 4 hours, ughhh.

My legs sure are lookin nice though!

Hi,

Wishes congrats on the shoes, a good running shoes are essential!!

I ran 3 miles yesterday and this morning too. I switched to the treadmill and I do the last 1/2 mile gradually increasing speed. My speed is SLOOOW (4.8mi/hr) so I increase the speed, 5, 5.5, 6. I do feel like I am dead at the end.
My knee does not hurt anymore and I get to watch all the movies I want while I am running. Can't beat that!! Planning to run every day or if I am tired, just put a good incline on there and walk like 3.5/hr, it keeps my heart rate up anyway.
Everybody, good running!!!
Hajni
PS: I still haven't signed up for that 5 K . I really have to make up my mind here.

well, just got back from the doc. looks like I have some damage on my medial joint line....I have to start physio on thursday. looks like I'm gonna be off my knee for awhile.

let this be an example to anyone starting out....don't do too much too soon, and don't ignore pain or "run through it".
