For me, when it comes to walking, lately its been Red Hot Chili Peppers new album Stadium Arcadium. Good double disc album with lots of good songs so you won't get bored, only a couple that you may have to skip for being a little slow.

Anything faster than a walking pace and I end up with hard rock. Bands like; Disturbed, Three Days Grace, Thousand Foot Crutch and System of a Down.

A friend of mine that majored in Music Therapy major took a look at all my music (9 days of continuous audio) And made me a 1 hour playlist of stuff for the gym. She checked the beats per minute of everything, started with stuff to warm up to, slower beats/minute, and then increase the beats/minute of the songs, then decreased them near the end of the hour. The change in beats per minute in the music you are listening to will actually change your heat rate even when your sitting still. I've tested this with my heart rate monitor, its sort of a cool effect.

I just don't use music working out - but I don't do much cardio gym. However, if I did use music:
  • Red Hot Chilli Peppers
  • AC/DC
  • Arctic Monkeys
  • Nelly Furtado
  • Led Zeppelin
  • Jimi Hendrix
would probably feature...

I have a huge music library also, and I'm currently building my cardio playlist because I just got a new Ipod and gym membership. Here are a few of my favorites...

*What You Waiting for - Gwen Stefani
*Raspberry Swirl - Tori Amos
*Got The Life - Korn
*Maneater - Nelly Furtado
*Heat of Glass - Blondie
*One Way or Another - Blondie
* F**king Hostile - Pantera
*Seven Nation Army - The White Stripes
*Music at Work - The Tragically Hip
*Sexy Back - Justin Timberlake
*Devil Went Down To Georgia - Charlie Daniels Band
*Learn To Fly - Foo Fighters
*Wrong Side of The Bed - Atreyu
*Fergalicious - Fergie
*Hips Don't Lie (remix) - Shakira
*Let It Rip - The Dixie Chicks
*Canned Heat - Jamiroquai
*Dance - Jamiroquai
*You Can Do It - Ice Cube

I change it regularly
one thing that stays the same though is up beat faster paced music.

I tend to step in time with the beat - it keeps me going faster :)

Do you mind sharing the order and songs she listed? We seem to have some similar muscal tastes. I'd be much obliged!

I was just getting ready to come ask what everyone listens to while working out. Glad I saw your post.

The only exercise I am doing right now is the stair stepper, so I need beat filled music.

My current playlist:

"Say It Right" - Nelly Furtado
"Hey Mama" - Black Eyed Peas
"One Two Step" - Ciara
"Freek-a-Leek" - Petey Pablo
"Maneater" - Nelly Furtado (This song is awesome for working out, it's very "I am woman, hear me roar!" lol)
"Move Ya Body Girl" - Nina Sky
"Pon De Replay" - Rihanna
"Can't Get You Out Of My Head" - Kylie Minogue
"B.O.B.(Bombs Over Baghdad)" - Outkast
"My Humps" - Black Eyed Peas
"Gossip Folks" - Missy Elliot
"She Bangs" - Ricky Martin
"Shake That A**" - Eminem
"Get Your Groove On" - Limp Bizkit

I imagine before long I'll also make a more rock n' roll kind of playlist with Aerosmith, Guns N' Roses, Alice in Chains and such.

what gets your movin?

Hey looking for some fast pace songs for my iPod. what are some of the songs that get you moving during exercise?

Hmmmm

I can't really do dance music; "booma chicka booma chicka" doesnt work for me. But oddly enough I use 2 different custom playlists. One is from an MP3 collection I fond online called "Music that has lost its taste" Mostly 80's pop-rock with a good beat, the other is hardcore, straight up gangsta rap. Gets the old blood pumpin when I am walking home everyday....

Personally I like some of the straight out current rock bands, stuff like Anberlin, Finch, Funeral For A Friend, Head Automatica. They have some slower songs for warm up and cool downs, and their faster songs tend to not have too many slow parts so you stay at a good tempo the entire time.

OMG!!! I am turning into my grandfather!!!!

Wow.....

Damn it!! I knew this time would come soon enough but I had no idea!

I have NO CLUE WHATSOEVER who those bands are you are talking about KissMyHuman!!!!

I thought I would be at least 60 before I starting losing touch on whats in and happening......

The truly crying shame is I am not even that old yet.....

Sigh, oh well, maybe now I can start sitting in the seats at the very front of the bus and join the seniors line in the bank.....:(

yes nothing gets me moving more than some Tupac. ;).. thanks for the recommendations guys.. keep em coming

Red Hot Chili Peppers' new song "Snow" - or anything from their 1992 era

ELO "Don't bring me down" - OR pretty much anything

Foo Fighters - anything

Audio Slave - " "

Sometimes, I just listen to NPR news and I get all fired up. LOL.

Sirant,
dont feel so bad, those bands aren't really mainstream, unless you are a follower of the genre you probably wouldnt even know them, real good music though.

I also wanna add Killswitch Engage to the list, as well as Atreyu, Thrice and Remembering Never. One to check out would also be Mastodon, really brings back some old school hard core metal riffs.

but dude... more details on the gangsta rap. I'll throw on some brotha Lynch hung, thats pretty gangsta.
