Petals diary

I once went carb free. I dropped serious weight in a few days . However I didnt stick to it I cannot remember why really it’s a long time ago.

I think if you do it you will get very trim. I’m going to cut back as much as I can on sugar stuff . And switch if the white carbs again. It’s hard .

I have half thought of going back to a slimming class but I don’t think I will . I can’t bear to think in terms of points anymore .

I might be the slowest person in earth to lose weight right now but I’m exercising, mainly I chose to eat well , I am finally sleeping for the first time in years , I feel refreshed and more energetic and I think a slimming club will not help me at all . Plus they love the processed crap .
This here is better than any club

You're doing a lot better than the majority of North-America, Europe, and Australia - because the majority of folks in those areas is currently gaining weight. You're also doing better than all the crash dieters - because the majority of those WILL be gaining weight soon. Great work all around!

From what I am reading the first few days or weeks can be really hard with low carb diets, so hopefully easing into it will help. I'll definitely let you know.

I just gained back the 1.5 pounds I lost in one day, so you and I are going through a similar plateau, I think. I did the crash diet thing one too many times, too, so you are in good company there, as well. I could never do Weight Watchers or things like that. I really like fresh food and cooking it myself and most of my ingredients probably would not be on their diet plan.

Also with all that exercise, I'm sure you are gaining muscle, which is probably showing up heavier on the scale. And sleeping well from the exercise I bet will catch up to you and help you lose weight! So I hope you don't get discouraged. Like LaMa said, you are doing amazing!!! Here's to us turning our backs on sugar and getting the energy better ways!!!

I love this! There's no hurry, Petal. We are making positive changes & will be much better off for it xo

I eat fruit and yogurt for breakfast most days . My husband bacon and eggs . I decided to have the same as him this morning . Also with tomatoe and black pudding . I also had 1 slice of toast . I’m normally starving by 11am so it will be interesting to see if this holds me until lunch . I have a banana if not.

I thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast . Will have no more bread now today .

Breakfast sounds yummy, Petal. Try adding some almond meal to your yoghurt & fruit to help keep you fuller.

How did it go with the cravings the rest of the day? Did having a big breakfast work?

Yes it actually did . I think I'm better eating more in morn or lunch with something small in evening .

Can anyone help ? I walk a lot , I'm active , I eat healthy mostly and do feel well . But I'm suffering really badly recently with aching legs and ankles especially after sitting for a period of time . I'm nearly 50 . Surely too young for this .

I'm like the tin man in the wizard of oz getting up and creaking until I get moving . Any ideas ?

Hi Petal, I have a couple of ideas, but think asking your doctor is probably best if you haven't yet. One possibility is inflammation from sugar and simple carbs, too much salt - esp. if you see swelling around your ankles - if so go to dr., if you can get a set of knee-high compression socks and wear them and see if that works that would narrow things down a lot, not drinking enough water causes me to have leg cramps esp. when I am sedentary, or maybe you are getting in better shape to the point where long periods of sitting hurt and you need to get up and stretch periodically? I bet LaMa will have much better ideas than me, but those are what I can think of off the top of my head. Hope you find a good solution soon!!!

Glad the big breakfast worked. I think I will do that, too!

Hi, Petal. It may be osteoarthritis, which I have & it is worth seeing your doctor to find out. I can't take anti-inflammatories, unfortunately, but have started having apple cider vinegar every day & I think that is helping a little. Getting up & moving around regularly does help.

Osteoarthritis is my first guess as well but definitely see a doctor to make sure and discuss treatment options as there are several other common possible reasons. Whatever it is: reducing inflammatory reactions by sleeping enough/at regular times, drinking enough (and mostly water), moving regularly, avoiding allergies and (further) reducing your intake of sugary and other processed foods (including alcoholic beverages, aged meats and cheeses and possibly other fermented foods) is likely a good idea.

Thanks everyone I knew I would get good ideas here . Yes a visit to the doc is probably on the cards . In the meantime I will drink more water . I have been not great with that . I eat very little salt , meat or cheese. However room for improvement with the sugar and carbs. My ankles do look puffy at times .
I think I will increase my water now and improve my diet further . I will keep a diary for a little while so I have back up when I see the doc. When I do go I feel flustered as they are always rushing and I end up not saying half of what I want too .

Cate . Arthritis does run in my family so it's a high possibility.
Thanks all

I don't go to the doctors often, but take my mom a lot. We bring notes and also take them when the doctor rattles off the diagnosis, types of medicine, what our instructions are, and I slow him down and ask how to spell everything.

I have been reading articles that arthritis and diabetes/pre-diabetes can be caused by the same thing of too much sugar from sugar and simple carbs, to the point where some researchers are seeing these conditions as symptoms of the same root cause of elevated blood sugar levels causing inflammation and altering insulin's action and eventually leading to insulin resistance (which you can have way before pre-diabetes, but it is a precursor to it). Here https://www.webmd.com/diabetes/type-2-diabetes-guide/inflammation-and-diabetes#1 is a good article that on the bottom explains how 30 minutes of exercise a day plus an anti-inflammatory diet will make sure we don't get diabetes and will increase our insulin sensitivity so our body gets back to normal. Here is an easier to read article with a simple nice list of anti-inflammatory foods, in case you haven't researched this yet Anti-inflammatory diet: Food list and tips .

So it's so wonderful you are doing so great with the exercise!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to link that for me . I'm going to read it soon in bed . You are a good friend . When I got up this morning I sat on the side of the bed and rotated my ankles for a time . Think it helped

I sub-consciously (now) do ankle exercises when I'm sitting & they really do help. Marsia is indeed a very good friend.
Have a lovely weekend Petal, xoxo

Hi Petal, that's great that getting movement in your joints helps! I'm glad you like the articles and hope they are helpful. It's nice to share what I am learning! You are all so supportive and good friends, too!!!

lol I fell asleep reading those articles but read this morning . It's all common sense isn't it . I am going to make a determined effort from today to keep down the sugar and the white carbs .

I bought some nice veggies yesterday to make some soups so might do that this morning .
