I hit another small roadblock. My doc doesn't want me exercising yet. He feels that it would be impactful on my joints at my current weight. He said do the calorie reduction so that's all I got for mine.

Too much water.
Can't meet the 2 hour min...

Am I doing great or what? lol

Is there anything low-impact that you could ask your doctor about? Maybe even arm-chair aerobics?

I do understand the worry about joint-impact though, for sure!

On a side note, I got 150oz of water yesterday, which is just below my recommended amount. I'm at 75oz so far today ... on the right track :D

No!! Just do your best, the challenge points are a slight side advantage, but the main goal is WEIGHTLOSS!!! :hurray:

thanks!

I am going for a run as soon as I get home and hopefully will drink some water as a result.

I'm sure there is something I can do. As far as the water, I'm drinking as much as I can.

The weight loss..well I will share that later even though I cheated and weighed myself today

There is exercising and exercising. At your weight - walking - at any speed that you can manage - would be of tremendous benefit. We neednt be talking anything strenuous at all. I know that is how I started out (I was pretty cuddly as I am only 5ft3)...

I was inspired to walk after seeing the inspirational weightloss by Charlie Walduck on a UK television program:

He went from 44 stone (i.e. 616 pounds) to 14 stone (i.e. 196 pounds) via healthy eating and exercise - and his initial exercise was slow walking...

I would be inclined to discuss your options again with your doctor.

One question Jericho - so that I can get a feel for where you are... How tall are you so that I can see where your BMI is?

:iagree: with Omega!! Look at the biggest losers this year in the USA a couple of them could do NOTHING but walk and swim for like 3 weeks and still lost weight!!! You can do it!!!

I'm 6'2. I have one of those 'wall' builds with broad shoulders and such.

I have just keyed your height and weight into a BMI calculator. It gives your BMI as 50.8. Since that is slightly lower than my start BMI (and a fair bit lower than my husband's current BMI) - I have a fair idea of how cuddly you are...

I am convinced that some levels of exercise would be within your ability levels. Naturally - the form that it takes depends on how deteriorated your joints currently are too - but I really think that it is worth you following this up further.

I am surprised that your joints are bad enough to warrant this since you make no mention of them in your newcomer posting or in your diary... Indeed - in your newcomer posting you say that medically you have been lucky - although - like many of us you mention a few issues which are weight related (many of us were in that boat...)...

I am not in any way doubting your statement - but inclined to wonder whether your doctor is being over-protective - or indeed does he understand that light exercise like walking could be one of the forms of exercise that you were asking about.

I did great on water over the weekend. I require 135oz ( almost 4 liters ) a day for my weight. Fri-Sat-Sun I was able to get 140oz each day but I was forcing the last 20oz or so down before going to bed :smash:. Went back to work today and have only gotten 80oz in today so far. I will finish the bottle I am on working on now to make it 100oz for the day but will far short of my daily goal.

Water and food have been good today. I am not doing well with the exercise. Only done a total of 45 min which is a shame. hopefully I improve!

Jericho, if you are having joint problems it is 99% because of your weight. What specific joint problems do you have? Exercising and losing weight will only help with the joints. I realize some exercise is harder than others, but you should definitely try. When people have joint problems, often lower impact exercises such as swimming or biking are beneficial. Do what you can, but the idea is to get moving (says the person who has barely exercised this week!). I would talk to your doc about it again....and maybe if he/she says the same thing, maybe ask a second doc? It's worth it for your health!!!!

Jan 5th and still going strong with the water challenge, had a general fitness check up and BF% measurements today.

I've been doing nicely with the water challenge ... 175oz. yesterday.

Unfortunately, I haven't been feeling very well. My stomach has been giving me all kinds of problems. It feels like someone has punched me in the stomach. It comes and goes throughout the day and has been going on for about 3 days now. On top of that, I woke up and got dressed to hit the gym this morning at 5am, and found out (very unpleasantly by changing into my clothes) that our heater is not kicking on for some reason.

It is 16 degrees outside. Not a good day for our heater to not turn on.

I'm unsure what to do about it, but going to the gym is pretty much screwed now. If I can't get it to work, I'm going to have to stay here and try to get someone to come take a look at it today. As if I could afford this ... :(

I've been making my 135oz of water so far every day! I will admit that yesterday I did NOT think I was gonna make it...

Struggling still with the water challenge but am doing really well on the food and exercise - checked the scales today - 207.4! - 5.8. Some of that is definitely water weight but my body fat scales have me down 44.5 to 42.5.

Such a motivational boost. Anyway. Already on 1.5l today. Exercising and drinking water while doing that really helps. The upside to the cold mornings is that the water chills really nicely outside. I'm buying a 1l bottle instead of a 0.5l bottle because this morning I drank 0.5l while jogging cos that's all I had with me. I could have drank more.

It's mainly my knees. 20+ years of 250+ weight has started to take a toll. I think he believes that I will lose weight plenty at the start with calorie reduction (which I have).

I am going to see what I can do about getting a bike or something.

how's everyone doing? water and diet good, still stayin gaway from the soda :) worked out finally today (only worked out twice since the 1st!). how's everyone else doing today?!

Keepitoff, Also got my first workout in today as well. I am a bit gun shy when it comes to pulling in the gym parking lot and there being 20 cars there when im used to only 1. But I know this will end in about a month when people start fallin of the resolution bandwagon...I go through it every year. Once I'm in the gym I'm fine, its me being in the car and my brain telling me people are going to stare and make fun of me that makes it hard to get out of the car. I know this isn't the truth but you wouldn't believe what my mind says sometimes :).

Food, water, and exercise were all good today but now I find myself feeling ravenous. I want to eat everything in sight. I'm not obvisouly, but what can I do to stop this feeling? It's not because I'm dehydrated, got my ounces in for the day and then some. hmmm.

Well done Priti and Ashley!

My water and exercise has been totally on track since the start of the challenge. In fact my exercise has never gone off track...

My food has been a very different matter. I put on weight very easily and normally eat a very restrictive diet - but have lapsed over Christmas - not on standard Christmas fayre but on food that I normally do not allow myself and feel deprived over not having... I actually had a cheese sandwich for lunch a few days ago - it was wholemeal bread using pre-sliced edam cheese and olive spread (so many would consider it to be a healthy option) - but I am supposed to avoid bread and cheese completely and eat particularly low fat... Eating stuff like that is sheer madness for me.

Tuesday was my best day for food since Wednesday 16th December. :hurray::hurray::hurray: I ate totally healthily despite my husband eating a packet of biscuits while sitting next to me. I didnt even ask to have a single bite. :hurray: I will be ok if I can just put a few more good days together...
