Here is were I am at. I started this challege at 219. For the first 2 weeks I could only walk on the treadmill. This is the first week back at the gym full on (other then some stuff is still a little painful like push ups it pulls on the inscision site) I have been pretty good about how/what I eat (other then the occasional oreo's but they are out of the house now) and I am up to 226. I do not know what gives. Does anesthesia do that? It has been a full 4 weeks since surgery. Then the boxing class.............Talk about an a$$ woopin' I can not believe just how out of shape I am. It just pisses me off. I feel like I almost need to do something extreme to jump start the weight loss again. And what that is I have no idea. I was at 207 in August when we found out that I had the ectopic pregnancy.
So that is where I am at. I am failing miserably, not only have I let myself down but I am letting my trainer down by gaining weight instead of losing. All the other women that he trains are losing weight hand over foot. But no Tracy nuhhhh ahhhhh she is gaining it hand over foot.
I would be very careful about anything that pulls on the incision site. If you get a bad feeling about it I would stop doing that type of exercise until you have raised your concern with the doctor. After my operation I was told to leave things longer than that. I was allowed to walk (at my own pace) straight away (building up by a mile a day) - but I was told to do no other exercise for at least 6 weeks.
You can lose weight effectively with the treadmill alone for a while. The main thing is to look after yourself while you are healing and be active in areas where you do not feel that you are risking things.
Remember - there arent just the stitches that you can see on the outside - there are a lot of stitches on the inside that you cannot see.
Are you still on any painkillers? Maybe you should do a little bit of research on them if you are.
When I had an operation in 2008 - I was in the middle of my project. I suffered an immediate post operative gain of over 8 pounds despite not eating for days while it was happening ("nil by mouth"). This was down to the saline drip. A lot of people are salt sensitive - and really benefit from watching the sodium content of their food.
My weight did not come down immediately - even though I was very careful. I then realised that the painkillers that I was given by the hospital contained sodium. I decided to use some other painkillers instead and drank a fair bit of water and that did help.
One of my friends had a huge post operative gain and felt that she was not going to the toilet as often as normal. Drinking extra water helped her too. Think about whether your toilet habits may have altered...
If you are not doing so already - I would ensure that you are drinking your full allocation of water (1 oz per 2 pounds that you weigh) and ensure that you are not having too much sodium. The RDA is 2300mg per day. You can count it with a free account from . It is in the nutrition analysis - but I set it as a custom nutrition goal.
A friend told me that rubbing E45 cream is really good for the scar area too. She did that and her doctor told her it was the very best thing to do... I think that is more to help the scar skin heal to a softer more natural consistency instead of so much of a ridge...
If anyone has had surgery recently (more recent than you) I tend to suggest that they chat to their pharmacist about taking arnica. I did so after asking my pharmacist about the idea and she said that if she was me and had just had my operation she would be taking it.
Dont care about other women. They havent had surgery. They havent had your other recent problems come to that. Heck - you dont know what they are doing. I was just reading an article about trainers having plastic surgery.
Dont care about what your trainer might or might not think. He is someone that you hire to help you with your aims - and it doesnt sound like he is doing that great a job at the minute. He should be able to give you confidence that he can lead you through these issues - not adding to your problems by making you feel bad about yourself.
Focus on the fact that it is perfectly possible for you to exercise gently and lose this surplus weight.
