Ah turkey chili cooking in the crockpot on a cold winter's day is a treat. :) If I wasn't such a dumb guy though I could've tried cornbread too, but forgot I needed an egg white and hardboiled the eggs I had left lol. If I feel sufficiently motivated I might go out and get them tonight, but probably not til later this weekend. Speaking of which, Chinese New Year is soon upon us so I'll be carting out the wok for some pineapple chicken lo mein too.

wow Tom congrats on reaching 230s..thats pretty cool,no wonder all that dedication is paying off:)

I notice you've been doing the same routine since November. Do you have a planned break and adjustment?

Yes - I always ask the woman who creates my programs for changes every 2-3 months and she's always come through so far. Some of the exercises are different from when I started the program in November, but it is indeed time for an overhaul.

Some ideas that spring to mind:

Get to x body fat %?
Swim/run a/x mile(s) in y time?
Bicycle 10 miles in x time?
Bench press x% of your bodyweight?
Develop a meal plan and stick to it at x% adherence for y time?

'Grats on your recent results, btw. :D

That's one of the great things about Tom, though. He RARELY cheats. He eats clean just about every day, every meal. It's so great! :)

Thanks for the great suggestions - will mull them over and see what I come up with. One qualitative goal is to get off the meds I'm on - that's a definite overall goal. I just have to think of the intermediate and short term goals to get there.

Wow - well thank you for such high (and somewhat undeserved) praise :). I do cheat now and again, but I am slowly but surely coming to the realization that I really enjoy the food I make. In that, I have certain advantages - being single, I have no one to answer to or please so I can make what I want when I want it. My palate has also changed enough so that it recognizes that "good" can also be healthy too. Some things which I think helped:

Make weekday meals more convenient by making them on the weekend and refrigerate/freeze them. Then they just need reheating and you're good to go. A crockpot is a great and easy tool for turning out a few meals with minimum effort.

A related notion is planning ahead - making enough food to last through the week, so the temptation for take out/restaurant food is greatly reduced. I find it really hard to justify ordering in when I can just as easily nuke a tasty homemade meal.

Change things up now and again and express some creativity in what's cooking. I tend to have a rotating roster of dishes I make, but I also leave room for some experimentation as well.

To me anymore, restaurant food is more about convenience than taste for the most part. To the point where eating out is more a social activity than a gustatory one. (There are exceptions, but these seem to be fewer and far between.)

Not sure where I'm going with all this - just some thoughts rumbling around in my head.
